I swear the elevator at my local JCPenney looks oddly similar, it’s a Dover.

The elevator at the JCPenny near me is almost similar too, slight differences are the fact that the indicator works, it used to be fully carpeted until they decided to rip it up and just put an area rug in the back of the cab, the bell indicator is on the back wall instead of the door frame, and i think the floor is different. It also was a Dover too before it got innovated, i think it still retains most of its Dover characteristics because of how it runs. Such a shame that this store closed tho, the one near me is surprisingly still open, but probably not for much longer.

I do remember this elevator and it's chimes when I watched this in 2009 but sadly they closed this store I think.

Montgomery KONE had a contract with JCPenney in the late 90's and it appears that they went around to most of their stores and made all the elevators ADA compliant. They left their name in some, and did not in others, like this one...
I believe that was in 1996.
Nice elevator. The style of the cab isn't very fancy but it runs great and seems very smooth. I like the motor and you can only hear it if you turn up the speakers.

The elevator was in the back half of the mall, down towards the end near where I think there is now a TJ Maxx...the TJ Maxx was a later addition to the mall, best I remember, as it was back in 1973.
They used Innovation right till KONE bought them, and KONE continued to use them as a vendor after the buyout.

Hey andrew, this was/is definitely a Dover, but montgomeryKONE came and redid the fixtures like they always do at JCPenney
Tim Beasley again....there was freight elevator for a music store at Tanglewood that was on second level, and it too, was very large, about 14 diagonal width...I know this because we used to use it to bring carts loaded down with 12' 5/8 drywall. The elevator was that large so that the music store could stock pianos! It had "Gillotine" style doors that opened up and down, top to bottom. Guess what? One day we blew out the 5,000 lb capacity telescoping "cylinder" that operated like a car lift.
Hmm... I guess I just answered my own question watching some of your videos, something big with a lot of power and mechanics involved in building and operating a machine like this to move people from place to place. Is that why I guess that's why I know look at elevators differently.
I like Dover elevators. But when you said montgomery, how come the headline says Dover?

Gee, I don't know...it's been 15 years since I was there last....it's of course in the back of the stores, in the service corridors that are accessed by the loading docks in back,...that's all I know...
UPDATE: This store is closing in Spring 2017.
It was just announced today that this store will be closing in June!

if it really was originally a Haughton, it would be a Haughtgomery!
@owenhinton But the capacity @ KoP is 10,000lbs maybe more and this is 7,000lbs...
The Montgomery Modernized it. Alot of haughton elevators get Modernized because they cant get replacement parts so they have to upgrade
