  • This Guitar looks like a Gibson Les Paul Custom in black... however, upon closer inspection, it appears to be a replica or Chinese (Chibson) copy. The owner told me as much and was not hiding that fact at all. It is in the shop for some upgrades - Tuners, Pickups and Controls - as well as fret leveling and a Nut repair. This will be published in 3 or 4 parts to keep the video length shorter. Enjoy the video and make your comments below! Thanks.

Presumably the owner liked the playability of the guitar and thought, for the cost of the repairs, it was worth upgrading compared to the cost of a Gibson or Epiphone. Playability, the feel of the instrument in the hands, is for me the most important characteristic if a guitar.

My Harley Benton SC-Custom came with Wilikinson pickups and they were quite good, however, I had heard and played a friends Eastman that had Fluence pickups in and I was extremely impressed so I bought a set and fitted them, the best humbuckers I have!

I got a used Chibson spalted maple LP ~3 years ago super cheap. I gutted it to a husk and replaced everything. Grover locking tuners, bone nut, fret level, Tone Pros bridge and stop bar, Seymour Duncan SH-18's, 4 CTS push/pull pots wired for full 21 tone Jimmy Page set-up w/PIO caps, switchcraft 3-way and output jack, and brother, beg your pardon, but this thing is a monster! I've got the Gibson 50's LP, a LP Jr., a RI '61 SG, a Flying V, and this thing plays and sounds as good as any of the others - along with costing way, way less - ~$700.00.
I use it all the time and mostly leave the expensive stuff at home.

If you do use a drill to reem those holes, put some painters tape over them. It will help to keep the finish from chipping away. I did this in a Epi Explorer I had. put some Bourns pots in, but they were standard instead of metric.

I have a weird 'Less' Paul (hehe) you can see on my channel, I don't know what it is, but I should think Chinese and likely from the Axl factory.
Anyways --- I adore it, sergeant to bring out the best in it... So this video is cool, helpful.

"In For a Penny..."; I would def. swap out the ABR tune o matic bridge as well as the stud posts it mounts to. The authentic stud posts travel deeper into the body.
The jack plug in def. replace.
    The Nut, def. replace.
Inside The NECK pick up cavity def. NO Maple Cap visible.
No evidence of a neck tenon (at all).

@@jamesmcallister5494 Still not a real Gibson, of course, but pretty good nonetheless. I hope you have subbed to my channel?

Are we leaving the same pickups in? If so it's kind of pointless
Edit: Not the same pickups, but I don't think they will be much better looking at the packaging.

Well for 3 hundred dollars I could have a chibson with all epiphone parts, and looks cooler, and I don’t want a three thousand dollar Gibson to just look at. Bam that’s why I’d buy one, I’m more of a fender guy though so really doesn’t matter either way. Ultimately I probably will buy a real gibson someday just to hang on the wall though lol
