Thank you! That was exactly my question. I thought I could do Alhambra and Granada all in one day. We’ll be traveling with two kids and potentially my in laws. Thank you so much for the tips!!
Spent three days in Granada in April 2023. This allowed us the Alhambra, Hop on and Off Bus, and walking around the city. Loved it! So beautiful. make sure you get reservations before you go to Alhambra. When we went it was closed to public unless you had specific reservations.
We are going next week to the Alhambra/Nasrid palace and the price was inclusive. The only stipulation is that you have a reserved time slot to visit the nasrid palace.
No one could get tickets for alambra due to new year, so I decided to walk back through most of the tour and loved it. They should do a virtual option too.
Very useful video! Thank you!! ❤❤❤ However, the Spanish teacher in me couldn’t stop saying Al-AM-bra every time you y’all would say Al-Ham-bra, ha ha. H’s are silent in Spanish. When you see them, don’t say them 😉.
Where did u book the tickets, it would be great if you could share the link and we are passing by from murcia to malaga, do u think a couple of hours would be enough for Alhambra?
I would say Alhambra takes a full day. Especially if you choose to go to Nasrid Palace (which we highly recommend). We went with the government site over tour companies: tickets.alhambra-patronato.es/en/
Hi, would like to know the ticketing purchase and process, which are the tickets and where to get them before hand, for this video you shared. me looking to plan for my next trip. Thank you.
Sorry to hear it was a tough day, but glad you liked the Alhambra - I was amazed by it. The worst mistake I made on vacation was leaving our passports in the seat pocket on a flight from Xi'an to Beijing - we were to fly home the next day. It was incredibly stressful and we were so lucky for our bus guide's help. The hotel, despite the fact we had stayed there prior would not let us stay without our passports without a airport police '"note". Back to the airport - the guide was terrified to talk to the police and they spoke only Chinese. Passports returned to us by noon the next day on a return flight, but we missed our flight. We did get home only a few hours later than we would have and $$$ later.
The biggest mistake I made in Alhambra was to visit the arabic palace before the spanish palace. I went more than half way trough thinking that I have entered some kind of service areas and accomodation rooms for the servants.
We have tickets to enter Nasrid Palaces at 8:30am....when the gates open. However, I have read that it takes 20-30 min after entering to reach the Nasrid Palaces....Therefore, we will be very close to the time we'll be denied entrance!....How is this possible?
I am planning to take my mom, in her 70s to Alhambra. Taking into consideration that there are not a lot of direct flights to Granada from North America, travel time is more tiring too for a senior. I heard the United is offering direct flight to Malaga next year, thinking of flying to Malaga and take a train to Granada. I not sure if she is up for visiting 3 cities. For sure we are going to Granada. If I have to pick either Lisbon or Seville which one would you recommend.
100% Sevilla! (visited both this year) It´s soo beautiful and having such spectacular historical sites (Alcazar, Palace de Duenas, Seville Cathedral etc etc). Great food even in the touristic areas! Stay in Old Town close to Alcazar for your Mum’s walks.
It depends on the season. Late spring to early fall Seville will be very hot. Well over 40 c. or 104 f., Lisbon would be a little cooler. A flight into Lisbon might be cheaper
It is possible arrive at Lisbon and rent a car. Renember that Lisbon it's only just four hour far away from each other. Look for a apartment at low floor or with lift at one of these streets : Argote de Molina, calle Abades, Mateos Gago, Ximenez de Enciso, Bamberg, Estrella. Keep in mind that these alleys are so narrows i have seen a couple of times cars boxed in with no possibility of moving forward or reversing, especially at calle Estrella and calle Bamberg. If you are going to rent a car let parking at public garage at Calle Cano y Cueto, at the beginning of the Murillo garden's.
It's pronounced al-ambra. The "h" is silent. I wouldn't mention this if you were just referring to the Alhambra in passing, but when you keep mispronouncing it, and when it's actually the subject of your video, it becomes very irritating. PS - I live in Granada and I can see the Alhambra from my bedroom balcony.
Hello Zak, thanks for letting us know your thoughts on this. We'll keep that in mind in future videos. We did actively choose the British pronunciation, as we usually do, both because we are making English speaking videos and because we would likely still butcher the translation if we tried the Spanish pronunciation. We also make this choice for our Galicia and Barcelona videos. It is certainly food for thought though, have a great day :)
@@EveryFurtherMile There is no English translation. It's Arabic, and it's impossible to butcher three simple syllables: al-am-bra. Again, if you had mispronounced the name in passing, that might be forgivable; but when your video is *about* the Alhambra and you don't know how to pronounce it... that's just sloppy research. What would you think if I made a video about Leicester Square and I kept referring to it as Lie-sester Square, or Lie-kester Square?
@@zakmartin I’m sorry but as an Arabic speaker this is incorrect. In the original Arabic it’s الحمراء or “al hamra”, with a heavy H, no B. So including the H is actually more true to the original Arabic than omitting it.
@@nadanabil3330 I am familiar with the original Arabic pronunciation. I have many Arab friends. But languages change and evolve over the centuries, and the way words, names and place names are pronounced changes radically - even over decades. The name Alhambra is pronounced by Spaniards, and by natives of Granada - including the Arab community - with a silent "h". Now, if this UA-camr had intentionally used the original Arabic pronunciation (he didn't, because the "h" would have been more guttural and the "b" silent), that might work as an excuse for mispronouncing it, but it is obvious from the context that he pronounced the "h" because he had never visited the Alhambra, or discussed it with locals, or researched it beyond reading a tourist guide pamphlet, so he pronounced it as it is written. If you are going to make a video about a subject, you should at the very least make some effort to familiarize yourself with that subject.
I don’t understand what is meant by ‘English pronunciation’. You mean English-speaking people can’t say Al-ambra? Or do you mean that some English speakers can’t be bothered to learn a bit about the culture and language of the places they visit?
before that,......"The Muslim Conquest of Spain was the conquest of the Iberian Peninsula by Berber and Arab soldiers serving the Umayyad Caliphate. It began in 711."
What is the biggest mistake you've made on vacation?
Alhambra is like nothing I've ever seen before! Loved that place!
So True! The Nasrid Palaces are breathtaking!
Wow! Thank you for your helpful honesty! This is wonderful info.

What a fabulous tour of Granada and thanks for your constructive advice! 🤩
No problem, at least our mistakes have purpose ;)
Excellent video super helpful
Excellent video. Very useful. Thank you

Great suggestions!
Yes and you should book monthes before coming!! We decided 3 monthes ago to come to Grenada: no tickets avalaible!!!
Great video, thanks for the tips.
this was a great video - definitely putting these places on my bucket list!
You definitely should! Andalusia is amazing!
Great video. Do you recommend booking a tour or doing it on your own with maybe an audio tour option?

Great tips! Thank you from a fellow Canadian! :-)

more beautiful sites ! Hey Amanda how did you do with the heights ? I was smiling while watching :) Great tips too.
Amanda did pretty great with the heights, she's been doing very well with heights in general. Super proud of how she continually faces her fears. :)
Thanks so helpful
Glad it helped! Have a great time!

I recommend using the official Alhambra website for tickets, but feel free to shop around:

Two videos in three days! 🥳
We've been busy, if we don't publish fast enough we'll be pushing Spring Spain videos in December ;)
Thats true, we still have Seville and two videos of Protugal to go! All that and we've been in Galacia for a week 😃
Thanks

OMG! That would have been awful! That's a rough trip :(
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Very informative. Are there specific regulations for drone flying in Granada?
Yes m there are. Granada Is a civilised city
Great video and advices! Do they allow to fly drones there?
Drone licences are required for drones 250g. and heavier :) Certain areas and crowds are also restricted from flying. :)
Is it necessary to get the audio guide to understand the Alhambra?
The biggest mistake I made in Alhambra was to visit the arabic palace before the spanish palace. I went more than half way trough thinking that I have entered some kind of service areas and accomodation rooms for the servants.
It is a very confusing place to understand, especially the scale.
It’s a lot better to read about the history first and then visit the places.. that’s what I do and it’s so helpful.. Granada is our next visit.
Great video!! Do you still possibly have a location of that free parking on the hill? Would be soo helpful, thank you :)
maps.app.goo.gl/iswR1Kvw8Z4xG6JUA
This is approximately where we parked, it's a bit of a hike but it was free.
Where did you stay
All theses places are in Granada city ?

I am visiting in March and temperature in a day time is 27c which is very hot how come you said 16c in April …I think in April Granada will be boiling
I would say we experienced 12-20 degrees in April (and 20 was very rare). However, Granada can vary easily and may get up a lot warmer.

Mistake #1, don't rent a car in Europe, ever. That's why we have legs for!
You should have taken a taxi from Alhambra to your car 😂
😆 Yes we should have!!! It was exhausting!
What a glorious Muslims history and what a down fall for Muslim Spain so sad
Thanks for commenting! Spain's Islamic history is indeed something to be proud of. The Alhambra and other Islamic legacies really are a wonder!
before that,......"The Muslim Conquest of Spain was the conquest of the Iberian Peninsula by Berber and Arab soldiers serving the Umayyad Caliphate. It began in 711."
Medieval, not ancient.
Overrated compared to spectacular Roman and architecture.
