Mad respect for Kelsey for schooling the shit out of us in retro knowledge. I had no idea half this stuff existed! Love the videos, keep it going! And I wish I had the funds/space to collect!
I love game history. Even though I haven't settled down in one place or have much money, I love watching videos on videogame history and collecting. Thanks!
Sega may have lost that generation in Japan and the US, but here in Europe the Master System was the absolute king. I didn't know anyone growing up who had an NES. Love your vids btw!
Instant subscribe. I was a teenager when this came out, I'm a collector, and still you know more about this system than I did. Applause coming from California, I'm seriously impressed (and going to have to brush up on my gaming knowledge, here I thought I was a pro!).
Not sure, but I do know that many Japanese companies skip 4's in their naming schemes. From what I hear it's an unlucky number to them. Don't know if it's true or not so don't quote me on that one, lol
FinalManaTrigger You are right, the number 4 in Japanese can be pronounced 'shi' which is similar to how you say death in the language. So they tend to use 'yon' instead majority of the time. Similarly the number 9 can be pronounced 'ku' which can be also mean suffering or torture. They instead say 'kyu' for that number.
This is great! I love the Japanese gaming history videos you've put out. They're super informative and they cover a lot of history I've never heard of. Originally saw you on MetalJesusRocks WonderSwan video and it blew my mind. Keep up the great work Kelsey and can't wait for the next video!
This video, Famicom Network System, and the Nintendo Flash Cartridge are some of your best work, in my opinion. Obscure components and a lot of fine detail. Great stuff!
Yea what was the name of the place where you read my comment about that part of the reason I ask what you want? A dog is a man's best friend. Yes . A dog is a man's best friend.
Fantastic video. You wrote a great script for it. You managed to get in a ton of info in a really short period of time. If only I could I could be so efficient wth my gaming history vids lol. Keep it up!
Awesome video, I had no idea that the overseas Master System had all thise differences. Also those video game trained reflexes sure came in handy at the end there, nice catch.
Nintendo did the same thing, don't be a fanboy and in each case it was to cut costs and features that were not used. Even Sony has done it with every generation of their consoles.
Video's about Sega. I talked Sega. Nothing in my comment suggests it's unique to them but they started early, in that Nintendo didn't release purely aesthetic updates to Color TV-Game 6 or Color TV-Game 15. If they had, then it'd be a relatively like-for-like comparison. Also, and you weren't to know this, I'm from the UK which didn't receive any redesigned Nintendo home consoles until the Wii Mini which might also explain why, at least to me, Sega seem to be more notorious for this kind of behaviour. It also explains my spelling of "behaviour". Also, all Sega systems smell of poo. That's just an undeniable fact.
Im from the UK too you divvy, no idea why you brought up the word behaviour either, Sinclair started even earlier with 128k, +2. +2A, +3 etc and there was various incarnations of C64 and Amiga (and I don't mean higher models), and you fail to realise of course there was hardware revisions even if the casing didn't change right? and though you carefully said home consoles Nintendo did have hardware that went through aesthetic changes such as special edition gameboys and N64s which were the same things in different colour casings and Game Boy Pockets and colour Point being hardware revisions meant you didn't necessarily need new cases, but most maintsream consoles have had hardware revisions since the Nintendo days hey do you realise the Game Boy Advance SP has backlit and frontlit models? Or because they look the same you count them as the same right? The Mark 3 hardware had differences to the Master System it wasn't just aesthetic, and you do realise the Famicom had a totally different (and better) design to the Western NES? So Nintendo started EARLIER, so if Nintendo did it before how could Sega start early? And the fact Nintendo didn't release many revisions in Europe doesn't mean they didn't so same thing, and you say uncesserary redesigns! They were cost cutting measures and removing things people didn't use., I only once in my life saw a Sega card game, only a few times have seen the MS1. even Mega CD 1 seemed rare, I prefered the launch versions of hardware as even back then I noticed differences in video encoders as a pre teen kid. What would you rather have, bulky more expensive to produce launch models, or cheaper to produce therefore cheaper to buy new models, if anything Sega at least made the newer models cheaper due to lower production costs, all the modern "slim" consoles charge the same if not more for the priviledge of a smaller console.
So glad to finally see this video up. Thanks for getting the word out about this excellent console. Loved owning it and I'm glad it got a good home and good publicity :) Keep you posted if I find any more Mark III items.
"and an expansion port right here in the front, where you can..." - almost drop your console! Good video! I like that it's very succinct and informative. I didn't know about the later re-release of the Mark III as the Master System in Japan, for some reason.
my local mom and pop shop is called gamesurge and the woman that works there knew you, i asked her if she checks cartridges to see if they're fake, and she said she seen a girl online who owned her own store who checked every single game that came in the store. i brought up metal jesus and she knew who you were after i said that.
yo kelsey, my nan is a fan of your videos, she said to me kelsey rocks, they all love your vids in the care home she's staying at, if you you could give a massive shout out to betty, bob, arthur, two stick freddie and wheelchair wayne that would be great.
The Master System is an all time fav of mine! Modern games just can't scratch the itch like retro 8 and 16 bit games....! You make high quality and informative vids.
Cool video. I was one of the rare kids that got a master system for Christmas while everyone already had a Genesis and a NES so I love seeing videos dedicated to the Mark III/ Master System!
@@pentiummmx2294 He was, but the others where trying to draw away from the crude and obvious observations that probably aren't welcomed when all she wants to do is review games, not her face.

Dude Kelsey, THANK YOU! Been wanting an in-depth video about the Mark III for awhile now. I'd also like to see the Mark 1, or whatever the original console was called as well. Great work!
Great to hear! I've always been curious about it...even though I forgot the name...AND was too lazy to rewind the video I had just watch to hear it...Lol Appreciate the response. I'd also like to point out that the editing and overall filming of this video is the best you've put out so far. You're clearly getting better, so keep at it. Looking forward to more content in the future.
that look when almost dropped the console is a very familiar to me but haven't seen in on you until now an let me tell you it was priceless, keep the good work
God, you are soooooo beautiful! 😍 Anyway, great video! Since I live in Brazil, I only known the Tectoy Master System. This Mark III is very interesting.
Kelsey Lewin Yeah, Master System was very popular over here back in early 90's. Nintendo got here a little late. At least, officially. Meanwhile, Tectoy did a great job with Sega's console with great marketing, exclusive titles and translations to portuguese. And still today, Master System is produced in Brazil, with games built in memory and no cartridge slot, sadly.
Just went on ebay for "Samsung GamBoy" and found Mega Drive pads with Samsung logo. Unbelievable. This is so funny, remembering the system war between Sega & Nintendo. Thanks for the informations in this video. Well done.
Very cool video. Didn't know a thing about the Master System and Mark III until now! I caught the second ending to your video and almost had a heart attack lol. Nice save!
Kelsey, your videos are always professional and interesting, thank you! When I saw you pop up on MJR last week it made me wonder where your channel had gone. Nice shortstop grab at the end, the Mariners will be in touch!
New Kelsey video! YAY!
I learned about this channel from you! Great videos and good people. Excelsior!

Great video. The Sega Mark III seems to be ignored a bit on You Tube - must be the best looking retro console around.
Ive never heard of this before and with all the rare/obscure hardware videos I watch on UA-cam that's quite an accomplishment. Great video!
Thank you!
Very cool. Thanks Kelsey. Looking forward to more videos because the content on this channel has been awesome thus far.

Thank you!

Sega, please make a Mark IV so Kelsey can review.
I'd take another Sega console!
Actually the Mega Drive was known as the Mark V in Japan...
A new Sega console would literally make me emotional!

There are so many different models of the Master System...it would take forever to cover them all!
Man, Sega really started as they meant to go on, didn't they? Releasing unnecessary redesigns of existing consoles.
Nintendo did the same thing, don't be a fanboy and in each case it was to cut costs and features that were not used. Even Sony has done it with every generation of their consoles.
