Great stuff, as usual ZZP! Here's a bit more technical info for everyone on one of these monsters. This Pershing yachts' speed is due to the fact that she runs surface drives through gearboxes attached to the big MTUs. They are more efficient for this hull spec, with increased maneuverability, increased steerage when backing, reduced drag and reduced draft. At cruise and above, the propellers are halfway in the water, negating cavitation. They run so quietly because the engine exhaust is discharged through the bottom of the hull into the water. One downside of these drives is that docking is more difficult, necessitating the bow and stern thrusters. Also, they require more maintenance than a standard propeller & shaft due to more moving parts. The performance boats also run the Mercury NXT, Bravo, M6, M8, and Arneson Surface Piercing Drives which are like a cross between a stern drive and a surface drive. Plenty of internet pics to view the difference.
What most people don't realize is that you can get those high performance boats really cheap because the maintenance on those engines is insane. The end of the line is about 300 hours, and that's a full rebuild, both top and bottom end, on 2 or more motors. Most people sell those boats before that and you can pick them up for way less than half the cost new when close to hour limit.
These center consoles that are wide to trailer where do most leave their boat? On a lift in the canal next to the backyard or do they leave them at a boat storage facility? I mean can they lift 36ft - 60 ft. boats out of the water? I would imagine that would quite a feat especially on a 60 ft midnight express or similar boat.
Midnight Express is my dream boat. They are really getting popular. Those small yachts were burning fuel! Several looked fast to be so big. “I watch it all the time”! You have fans everywhere. He was genuinely happy to see you!
