I Cooke's this dish last night the perfect way to show off my non existing culinary Chinese cooking skills!!!! Oh my, incredible lovely flavour and how quick and stress free. Very healthy and tasty and easy. Y ou got the 3 thumbs up from me thanks will use it again to impress the eaters
When i was young, my grandparents and I used to watch Yan Can Cook. Now i find myself keep watching Roland Can Cook. With Roland unique creative presentation, i kept coming back for more vids!
It pays to teach your son/ children to cook.Mum loves to cook for Roland, now Roland loves to cook for mum. It's a yummy dish anytime. Thanks Roland for sharing❤
My grandma used to cook this simple but nice 'kiam peng' or salty rice which is much loved by the Hokkien from Southern Fujian. Thanks to Roland for sharing this recipe!👍🙏
Your mother must be a great cook back in the day... My family never use the Rice Cooker to cook anything other than Rice. This recipe has bring a unique perspective for me, seems complicated in technique, but actually easy in execution, Thanks Roland!
We have a similar dish here in the philippines introduced by the early chinese immigrants from fujian. Its also called kiam pong. But the ingredients are different. We use braised pork and chicken with sticky rice and regular rice. We also add pinto beans, black mushroom, dried shrimp, mustard leaves, chinese sausage. All combined and cook in a rice cooker or stove top pot. The burnt bottom makes it more fragrant. Then when scooped into a bowl, we topped it off with fried peanuts, green onions, and fried shallots. We usually pair this with ngo kong soup. and braised tofu and egg. your version is also interesting and will try to make it soon
My grandmother used to cooked kiam peng and she mixed it all up plus with mustard & radish (fermented) and lots of other veggies can be added in it to make it look dark green then, she will add homba. That's my grandmother's "kiam peng". 😁😋😍
Hi Chef Roland and team, thank you for this fabulous recipe. I make this dish today and my family ate 2-3 bowl each.. Feel so happy that my family love this dish☺️☺️
Oh i can smell it from here!Super easy, especially with ingredients easily sourced and on hand.Brings back mempries of my secondary school days when my friend's mum would serve up for lunch!Thank you for sharing yet another super easy tasty dish of yesteryear!
Hi, just a general tip, have you tried using the stem from broccoli? Cut about 4 or 5mm slices, put in a veggie stir fry. Absorbs the flavours beautifully and you can either cook it quickly & retain the crunch, or a bit longer if you want it softer. I used to throw it away!
You’re most welcome. We can understand the frustration you have if you want to try cooking other cuisine, especially Chinese because we use a lot of wine and such.
I would often have kiam peng in my mother in law home in Malaysia, 🤤 my rice cooker does not have a fry function, is there a setting I could use or just fry the ingredients in a wok and then just transfer to the rice cooker?
Hi Teresitalao. It’s not available in the market anymore but you can get a rice cooker that has multiple functions. There are many out there that you can choose from. Happy shopping!
Hi Roland! I found your UA-cam channel this past weekend and have already made 3 of your recipes. 😂 I've noticed that your dark soy sauce is much, much thicker than mine. In the videos it almost looks like sweetened soy sauce, like ABC brand. Which premium dark soy do you use? TIA!
I always have problem with this rice, when I put the water, the water level should cover rice and ingredients? Because with the ingredient, quite difficult to have the amount of water cover it
@@spicenpansthank you, last time I tried 1:1 basis but because with ingredients inside with the rice, I put 1:1 water not able to cover the rice, then result rice uncooked, put more water rice become soggy…. I am so lousy want to cook this simple meal also fail 😢. Please help what should I do ?
I tried this method by mixing the rice with the ingredients. But after the rice cooker turns off, I find some rice grains undercooked. Hence I now cooked the ingredients separately n place them on top the rice n then turn on the rice cooker. Tis way I have perfectly cooked rice. I will then mixed the meat n vegetables together with the rice. Can you advise why when I mix all together, some of the rice grains are not cooked through? Thank you.
Hi SK. If your rice cooker can heat up with the lid open, you should be able to fry the ingredients. Another way is to fry everything over the stove and then transfer to the rice cooker for the final important touch. Happy cooking!

May i know do we need to steam the Chinese sausage first? Or slice it straight from package?
Hi Papaya. You can soak the sausages in hot water first. This will help to soften the outer casing and then remove it. Hope this helps.
@@spicenpans thanks again Chef! Cos I have always been wondering if we need to remove the casing, some say need to while some say don't need 😂
Looks delicious and easy to prepare
Looks delicious! I have a new old-fashioned kind of rice cooker (not digital), and I’ll try to make this dish in it. Hope it works.
We normally add small pieces of pumpkins to cook with all the ingredients :)

What brand is your rice cooker ?
Very good food
I would often have kiam peng in my mother in law home in Malaysia, 🤤 my rice cooker does not have a fry function, is there a setting I could use or just fry the ingredients in a wok and then just transfer to the rice cooker?
Would you also add oyster sauce to it? It’s a lot like “lo mai gai” (gluttonous rice with chicken) that you find at dimsum restaurants.
Sounds good! Good one, Mama Wong!
Is the sausage you used a spicy one or not?
Hi again Mary. No they’re not spicy but feel free to use spicy ones if you like. Happy cooking!
Delish 😋🤤🤤

Like simply hantam only.... 😂😂😂😂😂
Wasting electricity unless you have no choice. Use gas + frying pan to cook the dish is more economical.
