Mark Guiliana Drum Transcription from "Instagram Exploration Solo" - Drummer Deep Dive Episode 3

- Today we are looking at a transcription of the legendary Mark Guiliana, as well as sitting down with him for a chat.
I went back and forth FOREVER about where I should place "beat 1" for this drum transcription. The reason I picked where "beat 1" was for this notation is based on measure 17. That was really the only clear "down beat + back beat" combination I could find in the whole transcription so I picked that as a solid "beat 1" and work backward from there.

Being a regular at the 55 Bar in NY since 1997. Mostly at Wayne, Keith, Tim shows, This is a great transcription I need to memorize into muscle memory. Those 17's are nuts, tho.
Amazing! Yeah - those 17s were likely just a “let’s cram this in cause it feels right” decision and probably not super calculated. If I had to guess it was just trying to cram a certain grouping in before the next downbeat haha. I couldn’t fully decide where “beat 1” should be across this entire transcription so they could be totally off! Haha

The video I have for most interviews is mostly just Zoom feed and isn’t great. I’d love to get to a point where the video is a high quality deal that I could post though! I recommended listening to podcasts doing something else (driving, on a walk, etc). That always helps me focus a bit more!
