    When I started decluttering, before I met you guys, my Mantra was "four square feet". I would tell myself I was only going to clean/declutter/organize four square feet. I would make my husband help me, but all he had to do was sit in a chair nearby and help me with decisions. We would be so proud of ourselves when that drawer or closet or surface was finally presentable! Now he has passed away, it's just me and I use your help implementing systems to keep everything tidy and organized. I still enjoy "four square feet" if an area needs attention, but I don't have many piles left and could pretty much allow anyone visiting my house to peek in any room or closet, anytime! No need to get ready for company. Never would have thought I could ever say that! Thanks for your continued support and tips to be proud of the space I live.

      Judy, this is a great way to start! Breaking rooms into smaller sections really can be helpful to reduce that feeling of overwhelm as you're working to clean and declutter. Keep up the good work!!

      Wow! Awesome that you feel you could let anyone visiting your house peek in any room or cupboard!

      Definitely no "guilt" when I'm doing something fun that I should be home cleaning or decluttering. I didn't realize how much that weighed on my mind or held me back WHEN I WASN'T EVEN HOME LOOKING AT IT! Just that all the time nagging feeling is gone.

    I love you, April! You always make me feel better. Ive been pretty broke for the last couple of years (lost my husband and my sister to cancer, both parents are dead). So, I packed up our home and our office and several storage units and moved out of San Francisco to a less stressful and less expensive home in Oregon. I’m still trying to finish unpacking boxes through my poverty and depression. I’m doing everything by myself because I can’t afford the help.
    I try to catch as much of your kind direction as I can. It’s taking me a while but thanks to you two, I’m making some progress.❤❤❤

      Sending a huge hug, Ann! You have definitely been through a lot, and I can only imagine how much courage and strength it has required. ❤️ I’m so glad these videos are helpful for you! Not sure if you have checked out the podcast at LearnDoBecome Radio, but the audio listening is sometimes helpful when people are unpacking, cleaning, etc. Sending lots of love!!

    You're so on top of it as parents! It's still me and paper piles that mess the most but having gone through STEP Mastery, it's 1/1000 of what it was! It's a small pile and you motivate me to process it with your flowchart. And to "reset" a room. Great advice. As always!

    I loved this video! I think we will use the karate kid approach for MANY things around here (like getting kids in and out of the car!!!!)
    I’ve been working on cleaning up my kitchen each day and it has felt so good to keep it tidy for a whole week! I found a podcast called the lazy genius, and she has an episode telling a great order of how to clean the kitchen. It has been mind blowing. 😂
    I love the idea of resetting the room. Such a great idea!

    I have started with a very small and simple baby step. The island in the kitchen. It's 10' long and 4.5' wide and has always been the catch all. So for the past week, we have kept it completely cleared off. At first, lots of sighs and eye rolls...then even the kids decided how much better it looked and how nice it was to have a clear place to eat, do homework, etc. There's been so much acceptance and excitement that they're trying to help decided what to add to keeping the island clean next week ☺️ It's been wonderful and such a blessing. A true family project which makes us all feel good and happy! Thank you for all you guys do 🧡

    I love how you guys talk about this as a "training" (practicing, modeling, muscle-memorizing, doing) exercise rather than just a "teaching" (telling, showing, expecting people to "get it" and then being upset when they don't) one. Very important and a lesson I am learning.

      So glad this was helpful! We’d love to hear what you learn as you work with your family on this. It’s kind of a constant thing, but the progress DOES come! ❤️ Wishing you the best!

    Is there a place to find a written transcript?

    • @LearnDoBecome
      @LearnDoBecome  3 роки тому

      Thanks for asking! We don't have a written, printable transcript but we do have a thorough summary on our show notes page here, learndobecome.com/how-we-keep-our-home-clean, and you can turn on the closed captions in the video to read what is spoken. We hope that helps!

    Should I do the program for a command center before Arise?

    • @LearnDoBecome
      @LearnDoBecome  3 роки тому

      Great question! There are a few options.... If you are “thick in the overwhelm” right now and just want a system to help you get out, STEP is the best place to start. But if you are looking for a whole-life approach with coaching and specific suggestions in our 6 areas of focus, I would go with ARISE. If you have room in your budget, you could totally do both. They’re meant to work hand in hand. Hope that helps!

      Claudette, thanks for your comment! We would love to teach you the tools to get the order you are looking for. It isn't enough to just clean and re-organize, we teach how to create a system that will help you maintain it - long term! It's exciting...hope you can join our class! www.LearnDoBecome.com/STEP

    I am the only one in my family (husband, 11 year old boy, 8 year old girl) who wants and appreciates a clean environment for our home. Is this age based? Any suggestions?

    • @LearnDoBecome
      @LearnDoBecome  3 роки тому +3

      You are not alone! I don’t know that people realize what a clean environment will do for them until they actually live in one for a while. I know that was the case for me, when I was growing up. I would recommend you start with one room and get that totally decluttered, with a simple system to keep it clean. Work with your family on just that one space, and then talk about how it feels, and tell them how much you appreciate their help keeping it clean. Then you go to the next room, and the next room. If they want to keep their personal spaces messy, I would back off of those areas. But you can set the example and keep your own spaces beautiful! Good luck!

    just hire a cleaning lady

    • @LearnDoBecome
      @LearnDoBecome  3 роки тому

      Definitely an option! I know that works really well for a lot of people. We’ve occasionally hired help for some of the deeper cleaning, and that’s been great!
