Merce! I have some issue in my little finger. I cannot hold any note in the fretboard properly with the little finger. I want to say that I cannot gather enough strength in this finger. Can you suggest something in this particular case? Other fingers are fine.
Thank you for your superb energising tutorials Merce. You are a gifted analyst and inspired presenter. Your mastery of preparing online computer based teaching is awesome, obviously the result of much study and refinement.
You've the best! Sharing a lot more than most. Explaining everything in crisp details. Only a classical guitars will talk something like rhythm regularity. Appreciate the effort 👍
Thank you for your videos which have motivated me in reconnecting with the guitar after a 15 year hiatus. The guitar has been the love of my life since I was a little boy. Thank you.
This is great on several levels. After 10 years off, due to back problems while playing, my hands are weak and often I can’t find the correct string. So frustrating! This exercise will help these issues. First time trying it I can only do 50 bpm (4 notes/beat), but I’m motivated to work on speeding it up as I gain strength and control. BTW, I solved the back issue through lots of yoga. Thank you so much for all your videos!! 🧡
Fantastic as always dear Merce, you always explain things in a way that even a beginner can understand being from a neo classical rock, prog rock, and jazz background I use these types of exercises alot. Very good to warm up with and get the fingers limber so to speak. I look forward to learning more Classical guitar and the wonderfully accurate fingerpicking that you do. Have a wonderful week dear. And kudos again on your UA-cam channel! Yay! Take care! 🙌✌🏽🤗👍🏽❤ 🎸
Thank you for your kind feedback!!! Glad to help you a bit with my classical guitar content!!! Wish you a great week and even better practice!!! I'm off to practice now as well 😎 (always giving the good example hehehe)
@@MerceFont Thank so much for your reply Merce, it means alot to me that you would take time out of your busy schedule to say hi to me.. I am truly honored. And as always dear Be that light of inspiration. Get some rest and have a wonderful week. Take care mi Amiga! 🤗✌🏽🎸 🎶 ❤
Hi! from UK. This is a great lesson. I've only had four Classical Guitar lessons, although I have played Rock Guitar for many years. I am very interested to see how you use your Right Hand to play this exercise. I see some Tutors use just their Thumb while others use just their Fingers. I suppose you could use a mixture of Thumb and Fingers. What would you recommend? Adrian
Greetiings Ms Font. I have seen many teachers showing off variations of fretting hand exercises so much so that I think the only reason one exercise is different from the other is becozzz the teachers are more interested to show the difference rather than the effectiveness of the exercise. Therefore I request that you show us a genuine authentic hopefully the oldest classical fretting hand exercise that actually works and that was actually practiced by classical guitarists since long ago when it started so that any type of guitarist can benefit from. Not something that people want to show off just to highlight that they have something different. Coz sometimes some of the exercises will actually 'damage' the fretting hand.
I'll bring more left hand exercises to the channel for sure! But there is not one single exercise that works. Variations exists because with each one of them you get to practice something a little bit more in depth than another variation. If you want to develop a good left hand you'll need to go through many types of exercises and add plenty of different variations in each of them. Usually your teacher should point you at the right exercise for you to do at every stage of your development.
Moltes gracies dear Merce, so great exercise, a very interesting way to do it and get better skills on the left hand, thanks a lot!... Btw... an exercise of right hand for thumb independence would be really really great ... I still have troubles with that hehe, hugs from Colombia!
Thank you so much! Does your guitar have shorter scale? It looks very nice and ergonomic. I’m a grandmother and have been practicing classical guitar for almost 50 years, my fingers are not as flexible as they used to but I can do the cross string pretty well still, it’s part of my warm-ups routine. Thank you again and again for the tips and tricks, I benefit from them a lot. Do you have tips on muting open string especially on strings 4, 5 and 6 in fast tempo (90+)?
Really helpful. Unfortunately , due to advancing years and inevitable arthritis my pinky is developing an angular bend (so far around 20 degrees) But I enjoyed the challenge of those exercises. Nothing beats the classic guitar experience. the symbiosis of player and instrument is unparalleled in my humble opinion. Thank you. I have been playing for 40 + years but am a poor student easily distracted with random thoughts popping into my head . Any advice commenters?
I like this exercise. A few months ago I decided I'm going to teach myself classical guitar. Coming from a fingerstyle folk, country blues background I never used any scale type exercises. So, after a few months I'm up to sixteenths at 70 bpm before my fingers start tripping over one another. This should help. Thank you
Hi, very good exercise ! Great tone ! I have 2 questions : how do you make the guitar stand in this position, so 'vertical" and please, would it be possible for you to show the right hands nails "mystery"? Which length and shape is better, even if there's a lot of possibilities...thank you very much.
Thanks Janeck! For the position I use a support that is made of leather and is very discreet. You can also set the guitar in a flatter position, that is up to the player preference :) I keep a note to bring a tutorial on this topic of the nails, I've been asked far too many times and it might be a good idea to finally put all the information in one single video. Thank you for the feedback! 😃
Greetings Dear Merce!! Thank you 🙏🏻 for this wonderful and valuable exercise. This is a great Christmas gift and I would definitely add it to my regular practice. Once again thank you for putting so much time and effort, to produce these valuable videos, and freely sharing your knowledge and above all, for being an inspiration to all guitarists to improve. Greetings from the Netherlands! My fingers are getting a lot more flexible from your exercises, thanks for the content. Do you still live in the Netherlands yourself? Oh by the way, do you have a good exercise for when you absolutely need to shift 'rigidly'? I am struggling to hit these notes consistently (e.g. the shift in the Segovia C major scale)
Hi Stan! That's awesome! I love to read that is helping you so much!!! 🙏🏻 Indeed bigger jumps need another approach than stretching. Carlevaro wrote very interesting points in his method, so I'll try to make a good summary with examples that you can use to practice 😊 Best wishes to you and keep practicing! 🎸🎶PS: Yes I live in the south of NL! :)
@@MerceFont Alright. I'm getting more comfortable with this. It took daily practice and even so it's a lot of work. Thanks again for showing this exercise.
Hello, if about my oppinion, i think i play middle spead always if i chack your exercise, but cann't to say also slow becouse, my appritiation to play as fast as possible, only after that i take care about if i play notes at all, that is why currently for me your excersise look finaly unpackable, there too sturdy notes count
I love this exercise. It helps so many things at one time. And if I find I’m suddenly inexplicably sloppy on a piece, if I stop and do this a little while, boom, I am now back to more precise clean playing on the piece. It really does “wake up” your fingers. And I find it kind of soothing as well. Lol
Amazing! so happy to read is so helpful for you! I think I'll do a playlist for such individual exercises and I'll bring more to the channel because i have far to many of them in my head! 😂 Thank you for your comment chupie! 🤗
You can do many variations if you want. Start alternating i-m and then you can move to m-a and i-a both in free and rest stroke as well as the other way around for each combination :D

Great… Now we are moving diagonal instead of up down the string or crab walking up and down frets. I am starting to see the logic in those three exercises.

Hi Florin! thanks for your comment! I didn't include right hand because is all normal alternation (you can actually do it as you like, i-m, m-a, p-i, etc... any variation you want to work on) and unless its really necessary for the tutorial, it's a lot of added work for me during editing that doesn't make such a big difference for the goal of the tutorial. I'll keep it in mind though :)

Between 90-125 bpm.
If you measure 4 sixteen notes within each metronome click, this is definitely not a bad rate if you manage to play it clean! 👏🏻🥳
