Agree with master Mac. I did time on HMS Intrepid so can confirm what he says! The Royal Marines (when onboard), cause nothing but grief and nause. This includes deliberately blocking up ship toilet sewer systems. This appears to create much jollity amongst the RM, as they know some RFA engineer has to find the block and clear it! Not funny!!
I know British Navy will never be the force it once was, but damn I would very much like to see them increase their numbers by at least 15%. Their Quality is goodm but they need note fighting ships.
Not the same ship, but RM’s used to make a rod for their own backs on the LSL’s. Sticking sh** down the heads would only result in the macerators jamming. Pipes would back up and flood their decks. Being a 3/O (E) at the time, guess whose job it was to fix it and tell the bad news to the lads: sort your own decks out...
They're pretty much the Royal navy reserve these days and in actual fact that's what they belong to they go through some similar structures and training just like the Royal navy Some of its different I know because I served on it

You're an engineer? Specifically a ships engineer? Why would you presume to know better than trained and experienced professionals? Also, aerodynamics isn't that much of a factor when other priorities are deemed more important. Clearly they needed the room for said superstructure and seeing this is an amphibious Bay class landing ship, its main goal isn't speed and efficiency but rather capacity. Btw, using all caps makes you sound like a pedantic little child and the arrogance in your comment is the icing on top of it. Nice way of making a fool out of yourself you dunce.

They have 2 CIWS, 6 general purpose machine guns, 4 MK44 Miniguns and 2 30mm cannons

If you think of the navy as the cavalry, we're the wagon train full of supplies. The Royal Navy moves courtesy of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.

An interesting career change by Adam Mc Carthy. I though you could only join the RN\RFA in your 16-20s
I'm literally in the same boat (no pun intended) as Adam im 29 working in IT and hate the office life so I'm applying for RFA Monday
There is no age limit for the RFA the RN is 39.
i mean why not, its on site?
This is an RFA. It is NOT an RN ship. However, most RFA officers think they are in the RN.
Most RFA enlisted personal are higher qualified compared to their RN counterpart.
you would thik it would carry more weapons than tiny mini-guns.
She has 2 x 30mm DS30B cannons. 2 x 7.62mm MK 44 mini guns. 6 x 7.62mm GPMG and Phalanx CIWS. Quite heavily armed for a civilian crewed ship.

Andrew Harrison Lol Yes it is, will they ever learn ?
When the hell does the Government care about the military. There own pensions thats when they really care, greedy bastards the lot of them.
I went on to better things
It's got a few guns on it for maritime security right? Who gets to play with them then if it's crewed by civvies?
Quodge the minis the crew are trained to use the other ones they will have royal navy/marines onboard for.
Civvies have previous experiences with nerf guns so the guns on the ships should be a piece of cake.

It's a RFA ship. It's not meant to be in battles so it doesn't really need speed.

why they dont stick a multi-cell missile launcher on ships like this is beyond me
CockpumpVideo because it's legally a civilian ship. It only has mini guns onboard for defence
Usually because they have a couple of escort frigates or destroyers...
