Remember back when this stuff was popular and the more, bigger components you had, the bigger your stereo cabinet, the better it was? Like it was a competition who had the most equipment. Equalizer, stereo, amp, duel cassette deck, disk changer and what ever else you could throw in there. Early 2000s had the disk burner. Good times. It's amazing how now the smaller and less stuff, the better.

Hey, I have big speakers and they sound fantastic and do it with only 1 or 2 watts driving them from a single ended tube amp. Saying that most of my background listening these days is internet radio streamed to home made smart speaker. The little wood speaker i rebuilt a few weeks back and stuck the mono board in has not been turned off since I put it together. It sits in the kitchen playing background music from relaxing jazz.com 24/7. The stereo plate amp in the jvc speakers runs in the shop at very low levels too. You can hear that one sometimes in the background. The CD player and turntable for when i want to listen to something specific.

I remember wishing that they'd make one of these with a DVD writer instead of the standard CD player, so I could do all my data backups. Sounds like a great idea and I have seen a couple of articles online on how to convert one of these (not a Sony though iirc) to full DVD writer functionality, but of course these days that's not so impressive as 200 x 4.7Gb is still less than 1Tb of storage, and you can carry that around in your pocket in 2021. Having said that, if I ever managed to get hold of this type of unit I think I'd be really tempted to do the conversion as DVDR is still a very useful format to have around (despite what all the millennials on UA-cam may tell you) and this kind of gear is still very cool

Great Professional Quality machines. When I bought them I had to sign legal paperwork that I wouldn't illegally duplicate copyright material (store bought CDs). CD text was extremely cool, I suppose it didn't take off as well as the creators thought it would. Two things I noticed not every CD had CD text and every CD player had the display that would show CD text. I'm not aware of any portable ones, some home equipment could. The sure fire ones that did was stand alone music CD burners. The coolest thing I really like too was the VU meters the stand alone CD music recorders had. Not necessary for playback but still cool to watch as they were on home stereo cassette decks as well and showed signal during both recording and playback. For CD recorders you could tell if the CD was made as loud (loudness wars) as the peak meters were mostly solidly on maybe the zero DB would go out one in a while. One thing is for sure they sure killed the dynamic range of the music it was just mostly loud through out the tracks. My thoughts I have a volume control and I know how to use it LOL.

Personally I play my CDs on a DVD player and that plays MP3 as well so no issues there - I was just wondering how insane it would be to have a unit that holds 200 or more MP3 CDs with 120-150 tracks per disc :)

(not the ones I use in the shop, they are old test records that have lots of dirt and scratches) but If i don't keep the low cut filter on, you can see the woofers shaking and give it just a little volume and the next problem is feedback from the sound actually vibrating the vinyl and acting like a microphone. I use a nice old thorens table with a Shure cartridge. My speakers are huge, with 15" woofers and they move tons of air effortlessly. Vinyl has 50db s/n and perhaps 45db seperation.

Love these videos, they've helped me so much with my 200 disc changers, thank you. I got one out of someone's garbage, then bought one used so I could do the link/crossfade. I have a question; I'm trying to figure out how to skip (go to next track) using the crossfade feature, and can't seem to come up with a way to make it work. If I just let them play, when one track ends, it fades out and the next player's cued up track fades in. But if I want to skip ahead to next track while one is playing (hit the >>| button), it ignores the "linked" feature between the two; the music stops, the carousel rotates, etc. to next track, without fading out the playing track and fading in the cued up track. It's as if hitting (>>|) just ignores the whole "linked players" feature. Is that by design or is there a way to do this? It seems to me like if these units are "smart" enough to fade one out an the next in, it would do it when I hit (>>|) too. The players are CDP-CX240 (primary) and CDP-CX205 (Secondary). Had to clear out a few houses and it is all stored in my living room as i get rid of " old people's belongings". I wanted 2 pieces from an estate, a grandfather clock and a 1of a kind sculpture of a sailing ship all done in copper leaf and copper wire. The movers that were dropping off the clock dumped the rest of the load as well and said here you go. You have it all now. I had high end lamps made out of bronze, trunks, big marble tables with glass tops. You name it. Slowly getting rid of this stuff. No no the pioneer the optical pickup is upside down. When you load the discs in the cartridge they're all put in label side down that's because the optical pickup is above the disc and therefore the laser lens is pointing down. Pioneer did it initially because they thought that having the optical pickup facing down would prevent dust from collecting on it which it does however what also happens is the laser lens works its way loose eventually and falls out. It has nothing to do with shipping a unit they just fall out in normal use. The number of units I've seen where the optical pickup lens has fallen out was in the hundreds when I worked in the business. Even since leaving the business and just working from home every pioneer 6 or greater disc player I have seen that uses the cartridge style loading system the optical pickup has fallen out on every last one.

Once I got my CD burner in my computer I started making my own, recording from the music services like music choice or DMX that I could get on my big old satellite dish, would record hours upon hours onto digital audio tape and then when I had perhaps 10 2-hour tapes recorded I would sit down on a rainy day and start going through these tapes and recording the tracks that I liked onto my computer once going through all the tapes I would rerecord them again and do the same used to record an entire box of 10 actually I think they were 3-hour tapes they were the computer tapes that ran longer than the regular audio tapes built up a huge library of music recorded off of these digital services are the old satellite dish. That's where a lot of my library of music came from. Now I just grab it off UA-cam. Use that software I showed off a few years ago that lets you save any UA-cam content but it will also convert formats so even off of a video I can save it as an MP3 or a wave file or whatever I want. I don't mention the name of the software because I did a review on it and UA-cam took my video down because the software allows storing their protected content. Every time UA-cam updates their algorithm to stop it these guys have an update within a day or two. My original review of the software I believe is still up but I did an update showing it not working to download a UA-cam video and then it working after putting the new update on because some troll had winded complained that it no longer worked so I showed how to update it and that video got clipped because it violated their TOS as it basically circumvented the dmca. Saying that I have hundreds of discs and I've already recorded. When I download or record from my table service which I still do I back everything up on the CD I supposed to just keeping it on my hard drive. I have CDR desks that I recorded back in the late 90s but play perfectly. Despite what some claim that recorded CDs and DVDs do not last that is incorrect they do last. Maybe some cheap no name brand discs sold 20 years ago didn't last but the name brand discs have all been fine providing that you don't scratch them or write on them are stick labels on them I always write just to the clear hub portion and not on the writable area unless I use a water-based pen because the biggest problem with CDR was a chemical reaction between the ink and the lacquer coating which damaged it and made the CD unreadable. That was people's biggest mistake that and using those CD stompers to stick labels on them.
