I've got the 200 disc version, along with the 400 disc version, which I had to import from the US in the U.K. They're linked together via the rear cable plugs and are a great way of storing 600 disc in a 'small space' output fed into a decent DAC and they sound great!
I thought the electric surge I had two days ago (Hurricane Sally) had shot my cdp-cx355 player. Very upsetting, I loved my jukebox! I started looking for a new multiple cd players, and found out they are no longer in production. Then I looked for a used one: from $400 on up! Crazy! I watched your video. Your filming and your descriptions are very clear, and sounded easy. That gave me the courage to open my CD player to inspect, and beside... I thought: what have I got to lose?... I am so glad I did: I can see the belt/s is/are broken: I am so glad I gave it a try. I am now waiting to get the two belts in the mail, I can't wait to get it to work again!
I am truly very grateful for your most instructive video. I thought my player was a goner but after watching this I may just attempt to take it apart & see if the belts need to be replaced as the carousel does not move.
I've got 2 of this model of mega storage Sony cd players (300 discs), with one of them stacked upon the other and I can switch between then with the remote. I can't live without these things in my life. I've got both of them loaded up with Led Zep bootleg cds but still haven't got quite enough room lol. One of them showed the 'table error' message about an hour ago, so I'm pretty sure one of the belts slid off and needs replacing. Thanks for making this so simple. I watched a different video earlier, and the guy took apart the whole damn machine to replace one of the belts. No thanks!! Your way is MUCH more efficient! 👍😉
Dave, I just had to get one! Not only had I never seen one~ most of my mates hadn’t either. I tried looking them up and it seems they might well have been popular over the Pond but too expensive for our budgets. I collected the 200 disc version today that takes DVDs as well as Cd’s. I lifted the cover to blow it our with the airline but it was as good as new inside. I cleaned the lenses as a precaution and started loading it. Works fine! The laser bocks are still available, if it goes bad. No tuning details though in the Service Manual ( all available on HiFi Engine)
I have 2 Pioneer 200 disc players, both were picked up cheap & work well, I also have a 100 disc DVD player, but sadly the laser is shot :( Never seen a 400 disc player, maybe not available in the UK?
yes same to me ... i have feelings that people gather on a large groups before come to service and all come at once (like calm before the stotm) and all demand their stuff ASAP for yesterday :D
But you ask most people and Sony is the best... , well used to be good to very good. These days other a few products: headphones, Blu-ray players, TVs, some pro audio gear I wouldn't know it exists. Maybe more Sony products are available in Japan or Europe but since the closure of their shop here in Ottawa, for me they are pretty much nonexistent on Canadian market. I will check the Deoxid, since my can of Nutrol is finished - maybe is better for switches and potentiometers. 400 CDs wow - but which one is which - it would drive me nuts. Yeah, mechanics are ... very cool, interesting machine.
I have the CDP-CX450 400 disc and it has the ps2 keyboard port and rca video out for managing the list and titles. It can control another machine and mix the audio to do crossfades via internal mixer. I have a 5 disc from the same era but I havent tried them together yet as I don't have that weird control cable. Beautiful cd players.
Great video! You did a great job with the camera as well. I have one of these in my garage and I'm sure it needs the belts replaced. I also have a Sony 60 mega storage changer I would use from time to time and now the changer will not spin to play my cd's. I just need to figure out how to remove the top and get down in there like you did. Hopefully it's just a belt I need to replace. Thank you for this video.
Hello - working on my CDP-CX355 here. Replaced the belts, table moves freely. Issue is that it won't load a CD. The table will rotate and move CD 1 back to the player mechanism but will stop short of where it needs to go to load the disc. I tried moving the photo-interrupters and aligning the system but it still won't load the disc unless I give the table a little push on my own to get CD1 to line up with the picking mechanism. I scoped the outputs of the four photo-interrupters and they look good. Also followed the alignment procedure from the service manual. Any suggestions? I saw another one of your videos where you aligned CD1 to the mark on just behind the door. When I do that and try to play CD1, the table will rotate and it looks like CD 298 is closest aligned with the chucking mechanism.
Just figured it out. The table wouldn't rotate without a few clicks of the jog wheel so it seemed like the motor was weak. The belt for the table rotation was too tight - put on a slightly larger belt and it works perfectly now. The important thing is that you should see table movement every time you jog the disc wheel one detent/disc. If you've replaced the belts, it won't load a disc, and the table rotates back and forth while you're trying to load a disc until it displays "TABLE ERROR" check to be sure the belt for table rotation isn't too tight and creating extra friction in the mechanism.
I picked up one of these units and it skips a bit during playback. I cleaned the lens with alcohol. Any other common problems why it would be skipping ?

Great info from your videos and commentary. Thanx. I own a CX355 300 disk changer. Its been unused for about 4 years since my now 6-year-old grand-daughter to a liking to removing each and every disc whilst operating the door manually regardless of whether it was playing cd's or not. Now that she appears to be interested in other things I wish to resuscitate it. I just changed 3 belts and the power supply. The turntable rotates as if searching for disks - slowly and quickly and slowly ...; but does not stop at any time to load a disk. Is this likely to be caused by a photo-detector not functioning or my re-assembly that took no notice of the position of the turntable when re-assembling? Is this the best way of getting your attention or may I have a direct email address?
I have the Sony 400 disc DVD CD changer player. I took it in for servicing and it use to spin like that one you were fixing . What I'm talking about is the carousell that holds two CDs and they all turn around at the same time. 8 used to go as fast to find a CD before I sent it in and I had to get the CD player part 6 because it would not spin the CD. Now the carousel that holds all the CDs goes around very slow. Do you know what might be wrong with my CD player? I I'm at a loss! Every time I take it into that place or any equipment that I have in the past it comes back something else not working the right way. Very good work I see that you do. Can you tell me what I could do to make the carousel that holds all the CDs go around faster like it used to? Thanks PS I subscribed to your channel I find it very interesting. Thanks for the great viewing.

Hey there Mr 12voltvids. Your videos are amazing and very detailed. I just subscribed because of your wealth of electronics knowledge. Plus I just bought a Sony CDP-CX355 that had disc reading issues and used your video to replace the rubber bands and now it works just like new.i am now browsing through your modding videos as well because I want to replace the cd laser head with a Playstation 3 blu-ray laser. The PS3 laser would add 3D blu-ray functionality to the CDP-CX355 disc library. I know that Ben Heck did an XBOX 360 mod with a Sony mega cd changer a few years back but he used an Arduino. I just wanted to ask you if your experience with the cd laser ever led you to see if the laser still read cds even if it wasn't screwed into the head unit? I understand the left portion would clamp the cd into the lens, but does the head unit control the spindle spinning and reading of the cd? I just want to relocate the cd lens out of the way and not get errors on the cd changer while mounting the blu-ray lens and spindle to replace the cd one. Any input you may want to give is greatly appreciated. I might want to make a tutorial on UA-cam if it works and will give you full credit for helping me to create the first ever PS3 3D Blu-ray jukebox out of a CDP-CX355. It's all Sony guts anyway. Thanks for all the ideas. Keep up the good work.
These units have standby power. That means that it is supposed to stay on even when you press the power off button, but only reduced to only about 1 watt of power. There is a standby light on this and similar units. That should come on when you turn "off" the unit. Just make sure you are not confusing this all. If you are still convinced somehow that the power button is at some fault, open the unit up which should be fairly easy to do. Then, you will have to take control board out that has the button. It should be a few cables or only 1, and some screws. (Google for the sevice manual if needed.) When you have the board out, spray some DeOxit D5 (Amazon or all similar will have it) on all the buttons. You can spray liberally but carefully too right on the switches (buttons.) When done, just wipe it off the board well with paper tower or whatever. Press the switches a lot after doing this. Then put board back in. Good luck!!! Sometimes, the buttons have little holes in the sides of the housings. If you find this to be the case, spray right into them.
Enjoyed and used your video to change the belts on my cx355. Only partially took the back off to change them. Turntable turns and loads cd but it doesn't spin.. I would assume it should. After a few seconds, it kicks the cd out and then reloads it. same same. The player does this three times and them returns the cd to its home position. Do you have any ideas or suggestions on what to look for or try. I did make sure all the leads were plugged back in correctly.. Any and all advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
You have a laser issue. It needs power lowered or raised - an alignment. If you have more questions, let me know. I see your comment is a year old now.
@@MrChrisRP Thank you for your response. I assumed something was off with the laser but zero knowledge on what or how to diagnose or adjust it. Any info/video on adjusting would be greatly appreciated.
@@donmorgan6552 What you can do is to watch the latest video on my account. It will give you a general idea of the situation, although different model. You need an oscilloscope. That's the "right" way, but if you are like me at all, you can get it done without. Before you get into ANY of this, clean the optical lens with some isopropyl alcohol (99% is best, but 70% from like CVS will work ok) on a Q-Tip. Be easy about it but if you don't go nuts, you will not harm anything. It is quite hard to harm it so no worries if you just do your thing. If it doesn't fix it, look into adjustments. I didn't look this over tooooo much, but if there is an adjustment on the optical block itself, start there. RF Power is also a place to look. The adjustment. Always note where the original factory settings were. You can make a mark on the components with a sharpie if need be. Sometimes, the adjustment screw on the laser assembly itself is hard to turn. You have to get a "nice" tool for it. Watch some YT videos about it. You will see. Best of luck! If you have any more question, not a thing at all!
UA-cam removed my link, but you can Google "service manual" and your model. It will be easy to find. Here is a link to my video, in case someone else sees this in the future and I have newer uploads, so he or she will now know which video I meant: ua-cam.com/video/H75ic7NyhUs/v-deo.html

If you can give me any tips I'd really appreciate it. The carousel turns-but I don't know. I am frustrated. Many thanks if you could give me some tips! Take care now!
Hi I have a Sony 400 CD player and the problem is without having cd inside just star playing in no stop, what can I do or can you make a video explaining how to fix that Please. i
I see these occasionally at thrift stores but have no use so never pick them up (I know they sell but it's just not worth dealing with the possible headache for a few bucks). If I ever see another 300 or 400 disc I'll grab it and send it your way.
That's awesome. Thanks for sharing. I think I'm now on the hunt for one of these. Where do you find belts for these things? I have an old Denon DCD-500 single disc player that I replaced the belts on twenty years ago and it's acting up again. I have the part #'s for the belts but they are now discontinued. I see belt kits of assorted sizes online. Where do you source belts? My wife wants to kill me. I can't stop watching you vids. I'm a 12voltvidsaholic. I think I'm in trouble.
back in the mid 1980's if your ( not old ) SONY or PHILIPS CD players was bad, almost impossible to repair it. you went to the dealer, replaced a new one.
they should make these for dvd's or blue rays speaking of which there was a computerized one that remembered what discs were stored and where. it brought the disk to the front then you would take the disc and put it in your player.
They did. Sony made a 400 disk changer that would play bluray, DVD and Audio CDs. It would also play audio in MP3 on all the disk formats. Imagine 25 gigs of MP3s on a single BDR disk.

Anyone have a problem with the cdp-cx210 dropping a disc when it tries to load it?
Great video 👍
These are great vides-i was wondering if I could ask you a question? I changed both belts and I am still getting a table error? Also none of the controls (knobs) and door work. If you can give me any tips I'd really appreciate it. The carousel turns-but I don't know. I am frustrated. Many thanks if you could give me some tips! Take care now!
probably one of the optical sensors.
@@12voltvids Many thanks for that. But i have no clue where the optical sensors are located. I miss hearing my cds.
@@greatloverofmusic1 there are a few. One is under the turntable.
@@12voltvids For the door? Is that the one? I am just an average Joe-I know nothing about electronics-wish I did. Want to tell you many thanks again!
@@greatloverofmusic1 Google for the service manual of your unit. Just type in the model with "service manual."
very well explained thank you
Where do I get a belt that you eeplaced
Don't know. I have a bunch of old ones.
Another guy took everything apart to replace the belts. I prefer your method! 🤓✅
Yes, and both guys did not replace the 3rd belt that should be changed. How about a video to show that please?
Are you aware that multiple changers can be inter-connected to give you additional CD storage?
Yes this model can.
So much nicer with 60 FPS.
I agree.
Hi I have a Sony 400 CD player and the problem is without having cd inside just star playing in no stop, what can I do or can you make a video explaining how to fix that Please.
i
You showed us a much easier way to get it fixed that's for sure.
This player is basically a jukebox.
Pretty much
I see these occasionally at thrift stores but have no use so never pick them up (I know they sell but it's just not worth dealing with the possible headache for a few bucks). If I ever see another 300 or 400 disc I'll grab it and send it your way.
That would be great! Thanks
😢 my 400 disc player started good when new,now mot reading 😢, shuffle play best feature of unit looking to have repaired.
.
Could be anything. Spindle motor, laser or mechanical issue. These are complex machines
Do you use a stereo mic? If so, could you mix the audio to mono in editing? It sounds funky with earphones.
Camera records in stereo. I listen with headphones when I edit. Sounds fine to me.
I wish I had that player in my collection
That's awesome. Thanks for sharing. I think I'm now on the hunt for one of these. Where do you find belts for these things? I have an old Denon DCD-500 single disc player that I replaced the belts on twenty years ago and it's acting up again. I have the part #'s for the belts but they are now discontinued. I see belt kits of assorted sizes online. Where do you source belts?
My wife wants to kill me. I can't stop watching you vids. I'm a 12voltvidsaholic. I think I'm in trouble.
I owm this changer and love it.
they should have made a see through cover! Coool vid
back in the mid 1980's if your ( not old ) SONY or PHILIPS CD players was bad, almost impossible to repair it. you went to the dealer, replaced a new one.
they should make these for dvd's or blue rays speaking of which there was a computerized one that remembered what discs were stored and where. it brought the disk to the front then you would take the disc and put it in your player.
They did. Sony made a 400 disk changer that would play bluray, DVD and Audio CDs. It would also play audio in MP3 on all the disk formats. Imagine 25 gigs of MP3s on a single BDR disk.
@@12voltvids i did some looking around and those things can easily get to 1000$ or more.
I have a cdp cx 235 works great
Manufacturing date 2006? I would have guessed 1994 - 1998.
Actually I printed that sticker to fool you all. Did it work?

You serious?
@@mrmagnetoscope
If you have to ask.... Then perhaps it did!
Seriously though that unit was manufactured in 2005 and I am looking for one myself that I can get for a song.
I just picked up a 300 disc DVD player! Changed the belts. Anyone interested in buying it?
Yes $15

Ok. But shipping is $100
Probably wanted to keep all that far from the front where dust could get in easier.
What do you charge for achieve work?

I have a Sharp SC9770AV 50 + 1 disc system where the entire CD Mechanism slides across and grabs the disc and plays them....
Thanks! Most videos on these are by hacks. I figured that the back would be the easiest access but most cannot resist pulling the CD tray.
There is the right way and then every other way.
I've always found that if you can get a pair of hemostats, they come in staight, curved and some longer than standard size, they work great on everything even humans.Hahaha.!👍📻📺🎸
Ouch on that human reference! 🤔😋😎🤣😜
man you really need to put down the electric screwdriver, all I can hear is it grinding away at the screws, they're short screws just use a screwdriver man.
So your point? Do I look like I care?
@@12voltvids LMAO! Some fools are just too sensitive! Nothing about your videos has ever bothered me. You're real. That's why I'm a fan.

My ban list grows daily. Once a troll finds themself on the ban list they can chirp all they want and nobody sees it but to them it looks like they posted. A few that found themself on the ban list later asked questions and then get upset because there is no response. Well if they had behaved before they wouldn't be banned.
@@12voltvids Exactly. Treat others with respect, and you'll get it back. Simple enough.
@@12voltvids What's with the tape and the weights on the driver?

so true!.
Dave, we know you have other lines of work to do.
it's extra income, that's good :-D
That is a beast of a unit to me.:-D.
I have a 400 disc you can have. Just cover shipping and make a repair video. CDP CX450
Where is it located?
12voltvids NY. I appreciate your content. Thanks for taking the time.
I don't know why they stopped making these 300 CD change players.
Perhaps the same reason they stopped making DVD recorders and VHS recorders. Because people stopped buying them.
You should never use a battery screwdriver on old electronic equipment. It looks so boggie. Meaning not professional technician!
You know the saying opinions are like ASSHOLES everyone has one.
Where did you get your new belts from for your cx-225?
@@jonpeirce4748 Yes, 2 years later, I am wondering as well.

I replaced 4 belts in a tape deck yesterday that literally turned to goo, I still have some of it under my fingernails.
I was given Sony dual cassette deck, Dolby S. Unfortunately the same thing happened - belts turned into a black bubble gum. I noticed many decks made in the late 1990s and later suffer from it.
@@pliedtka Probably the same age and/or model, this was a TC-WR701ES Dolby S deck. IIRC my older TC-WR901ES didn't have the same issue.
A piece of belt fell on the carpet, I tried picking up, it just smeared. Tried wiping up the smear, IT MADE IT WORSE. Resolve got most of it, but there's now a permanent black stain.
@@rwdplz1 Looked under the bed - TC-W605. Nothing special about this one. Crappy mechanism, permalloy heads. Have to fix my Nak, not the greatest but 3 header - need new capstan motor and belt. Since most of the of time single deck will beat most dual decks, this one is a keeper.
