Power is a calculated number, the amount of work performed in some amount of time. Torque is a measure of a twisting force, and consists of half the equation for power, the other variable being RPM. Most people dont understand the relationship between power, torque and RPM, just as most dont understand the same relationship between volts, amps and power.
Hi John. I have a BYD Sealion 6 AWD and you can engage the ice engine from 0 kmph by entering the timer mode. In sport and HEV modes select timer and the ice engine starts. This gives you all 3 motors(ice plus 2 electric) working together from stop and gives the 5.9 second zero to 100.
We didn't get 12 men on the moon at the same time, that was over several trips. You're thinking of 12 Angry Men, which was a play, and a movie. So glad to help.

In other news: News Corp's car of the year for 2024 is the BYD Shark 6, a car that, to my knowledge, hasn't been delivered to anyone yet. Has anyone even driven an example that's not a pre-production unit?
I wondered about that word "depleted". I watched the video too and thought to myself that perhaps the battery is getting super hot and less efficient at delivering the power, rather than being "depleted".
10 happy years with my mn Triton & having viewed almost every vid on this hybrid Ute setup, I can't see myself buying another diesel Ute. The shark is tempting, but I'll wait for the lab rats to test. It's also apparently 5% bigger than the ranger which I'm not a fan of.. My car hasn't failed me so there's also brand loyalty, bring on the hybrid Triton!
From the Sealion videos it appears in series the front and rear electric motors drive, in parallel the front engine engages and the rear electric continues to drive. Hence max kw and Nm is the series configuration excluding the engine.

I know I'm old school in thinking that a simple, good quality drive train mated to a structurally durable and resilient body with as little gadgetry as possible to comply with the myriad regulations that governments seem fond of, is the best way to go, but from a rational point of view, if something does some task well enough overall, why complicate things. Gadgetry adds complexity and complexity adds a greater breakdown factor, relatively speaking. And with all of that complexity, there is greater resource usage, with the environmental implications that entails. Anyone who believes that this trend is more environmentally friendly must have a vacuum where the brain would be.
True sound of Australia in the background, love it So most of the people you are ridiculing in this are right, the petrol motor only connects over 70 Kmph. Most 4x4 activity occurs well below that speed so you are totally reliant on the EV motors for serious off roading. Lets all remember the Quote from John "the Battery will never go flat, how the fuck does that happen". Lets see how that compares in a year or 2. I really hope I'm wrong.
The BYD Shark tested poorly on Car Expert's test hill . And I'd certainly reserve my opinion on how much of an improvement a 'soft ware upgrade' would make to the BYD Shark's off road ability. The question remains: if the the BYD can't take off with one person on board on a basic 4wd test hill , how's it going to go loaded to capacity, while towing caravan ,while trying to start off up a steep driveway ? And this is a real world scenario that the BYD Shark would possibly encounter...
How exactly does a vehicle that no paying customer in Australia will actually receive delivery of and be able to drive in 2024 win a car of the year award for 2024?
Weird I know but with the Newscorp sops it’s pretty simple…buy more advertising and better the Gold Fleet discount Toyota and Ford et al have “incentivised” the journo’s with for years
The thing that made me laugh is the 3 prong add at the start of this video. I think I can hear the same cicadas as you, as I'm not very far away from the fat cave, bloody noisy aren't they. I'm after a new ute and wanted to like the Shark 6, but I think I'll wait for the first facelift.
I like your unbiased views, BUT... how much will it cost to replace those batteries in the shark as they degrade. That is my major offput in any bev or hybrid vehicle.. I don't want a throw-away motor vehicle..
While it will be proven over time, byd claim their blade LFP battery is good for 5000 charge/discharge cycles. Assuming you charge once per week that's theoretically 96 years. The battery warranty is 8 years, where they will cover for if the battery degrades past 70% capacity. Not too bad in my view. Some other elements of the vehicles warranty don't look overly appealing.
Another thought on flat batteries in BYDs. The BYD has no gearbox, it is direct drive, you stated, I believe (it is getting late for this old fella). It therefore follows that the electric motors are required to replace, at least, the lowest two gears of an IC motor gearbox to allow the IC motor to not stall at low speeds. Soooo, even if the battery is dead flat, power will be generated to charge the battery as well as drive the electric motors at low speed. Once a higher speed is attained, the IC motor will connect and directly drive the vehicle, supply power to the motors (maybe) and also charge the battery. Having a flat battery is an irrelevant comment. The worst effect is slightly slower acceleration at slow speeds.
Question on PHEV’s. If the vehicle is used for some time in EV only mode. What happens to the fuel? Does it go off causing issues with the ICE power train?
Probably not an issue. Fuel does "go off" but it takes a fairly long time. It would be safe for 12 months easy. If "you" would really drive it only in EV mode so much that it really never used fuel, then one could just add fuel stabiliser, like people do with long term stored for generators and collector cars
I knew nothing about the BYD Shark ute before, but I do now. Good job. I like the engine - EV - power train design. Do you think it could become a Burn My Driveway? Btw, nice view!
Withdrew my order when I saw the service planned prices…ridiculous. Subsidised buying price to be recouped when serviced and no free “1st service” at 3000ks.
I like your content very much. I think you would make a perfect university professor who could keep students' attention level high and make those gruelling studies more tolerable. Your latest videos have a background noise problem. Is it the sound of crickets singing?
i really would like to see how byd front transmission works, from my understanding its a 170kw electric motor at the front, 150kw electric motor at rear 320kw max output electric power, which is how it can outperform a raptor from 0-100, and the petrol 150kw motor drivers the front wheels while in cruise, and i would love to see how it charges at the same time.... does the front electric motor turn into a generator at this time to charge the battery. because you dont use fuck all power at cruise, and it would be super responsive, because all they would have to do is back off the generation, the motor is already in boost, and away it goes. all i got to say is ford is in trouble when they bring out the Leopard 6, basically will be an Everest competitor.
When did it become common for people to pre-order regular traffic? I can understand 1 of 50 special Porsches full of scaffolding and an million horsepowers, but a dual cab Ute you haven’t driven or seen how it fits you? These people are out of their minds.
I watched this video completely and intently, so I am not going to ask a question that you have already answered. I think in the KW numbers of the vehicle I think this is the first time I have heard mention by any journalist that in normal driving mode, you are only using a fraction of the KW. I have tried to make that point when people criticise lower KW numbers as the be all and end all when it comes to choosing a vehicle. As usual I get shut down and go quiet. Maybe this will happen again.
For that, the number that matters is the average kWh/100, and that's somewhere around 20 to 25, higher if driven hard, and non proportional, given that the harder current is pulled from batteries, the more internal loss they also have.
You should watch it again so you understand it's a development vehicle, with unfinished firmware. Clearly issues with traction control. Carexpert follow up video explains it, with some comments from BYD as well. I'm sure Paul will give it another go when vehicles start to get delivered
Mmm, not fit for purpose? Stuck in traffic, Tailgating, grabbing cartons from the bottlo, taking the kids to sport, flexing the tatts on the windowsill at the lights…seriously though BHP tried Rangers once and they ended up with a yard full of useless blown engine junk..straight back to Hilux
Cicadas are mathematicians. They specialise in prime numbers in a sort of encryption algorithm using prime numbers, just as public key encryption is based on prime numbers to stay ahead in the arms race that is evolution. Like most things cicadas beat us humans to it.
Isn't nature wonderful? Similarly, the Fibonacci sequence numbers describe the area of spiral shells and the number of petals on a daisy flower which is always a Fibonacci number.
To much technology going into vehicles these days. It may do a good job for now, next year and the year after but as the years and miles rack up what nasty surprises await the owner. Already in the USA huge numbers of modern vehicles are problematic. Recalls aplenty and people are having trouble getting warranty work done. Best to stick to a regular diesel pickup or petrol sedan.
If I learnt anything about Chinese engineering with upgradeable firmware they're going release gazillion hardware versions with incompatible firmwares with new hardware released pretty much every month. So don't hold your breath about upgrades.
Lets say the ice kicks in at around 40 mph for instance. The max stated mph quoted for the shark is 100 mph. There for, how much I wonder it that poor little engine revving. Please be gentle with me.
The engine runs at a constant speed as needed. If more power is required the generator winding voltage increases a bit and the engine speed goes up a bit. I think at 100mph the engine would be around 5000rpm as seen on the car expert v max test. But who would drive at 100mph for minutes at a time?
Continuing your penchant for correcting people's grammar, surely it's "a dude" not "an dude" as spoken by an experinced journalist of some ill repute in this episode.

John I’ve been saying this for years, the consumer is now the beta tester. Don’t buy anything new these days. Happy Christmas duuude
Johnboy, am I imagining things or are you getting a tad on the gelatinous side regarding Chinese EV's duude?
Cicadas are mathematicians. They specialise in prime numbers in a sort of encryption algorithm using prime numbers, just as public key encryption is based on prime numbers to stay ahead in the arms race that is evolution. Like most things cicadas beat us humans to it.
Isn't nature wonderful? Similarly, the Fibonacci sequence numbers describe the area of spiral shells and the number of petals on a daisy flower which is always a Fibonacci number.
Nice gay t-shirt John!!!
Found in a cyber truck in SYRIA?
Oh my gawd!
Just sthop it already!
He will get new ones in 2025
A worse case of OCD I have never witnessed - you need help imo.
@@zorbakaput8537 i am fine. Go and worry about something else:)
Go the cicadas.
If only your mic worked just as good
I've got no sound
I have sound now😊
Propeller head definitely sounds like a slur 😂
I'll keep my diesel thanks
I’ll keep my horse thanks😂
@michaelhermans4753 I'll race you
😉
Lets say the ice kicks in at around 40 mph for instance. The max stated mph quoted for the shark is 100 mph. There for, how much I wonder it that poor little engine revving. Please be gentle with me.
The engine runs at a constant speed as needed. If more power is required the generator winding voltage increases a bit and the engine speed goes up a bit. I think at 100mph the engine would be around 5000rpm as seen on the car expert v max test. But who would drive at 100mph for minutes at a time?
I didn't notice until you mentioned it, welcome to down under lmfao
Hard no.
Sounds like you're somewhere down under😂
Our school system is a failure, after listening to some of the comments
Utter Nonsense.

The only uniformed bullshit is the motoring writers plugging these shit boxes! 😂😂😂
You spelled paid influencer wrong
Continuing your penchant for correcting people's grammar, surely it's "a dude" not "an dude" as spoken by an experinced journalist of some ill repute in this episode.
Your videos are a true art! Every time you surprise me with the quality and depth of your content.🍺🥂⚡️
