The office was the best sitcom ever made. Life on the road was terrible because it was missing a key ingredient (Stephen Merchant) For some reason people seem to ignore the writing genius of Merchant and it annoys me that he don’t get equal credit for the office.
It was missing Steve's input but to say it was terrible is bizarre. It was funny, pretty well received by its audience and the critics. Soundtrack was great. It just wasn't as good as the office...
@kalle kanin 2 seasons, plus the Christmas special. And that does say it all because it was as close to perfection as you can get. No need to drag it out for another 10 seasons. As successful as the American version of The Office was, it's like comparing a good tribute band of The Beatles to the real thing. They could even be better singers, but they'd still never be The Beatles.
TeamRainbow agreed, it’s better than his version of the office (which don’t get me wrong, still love that). Extras is just so much fun and great writing
Zodiaddict Yea it’s perfect British sarcasm and meta humour for me and basically every episode is brilliant too, I especially love the Kate Winslet one tho
Gervais is a legend but he needs the Merch. I didn’t even watch the film, based on reviews. I didn’t want to ruin my impression after my love of the office.
I thought the film was brilliant. Laughed my head off at times and cringed the other half. Why didn't yous like it? Cause its more of The Office in my view, more Brent and quality Brent. The cringe is fierce in it 😁
@@SunnyDays00 that's why Ricky has is own podcast now. Karl Pilkington has his own one too. Lauryn Hill said it best.."It's funny how money changes situations."
Really don't think he should of brought back Brent in a movie (the stuff with Doc Brown were good though) BUT when it happened Merchant should of been involved.
rxp56 Agreed. I’m a bit offended with his podcast with other comedians recently explaining how they started. Not easy. Demoralizing, depressing, difficult. Thousands of hours working small clubs, refining their act. Ricky decides he wants to do it for the first time to a crowd of a couple thousand people and went on from stadium to stadium. Watching his last standup with that knowledge sort of struck me. It looked rough, and almost like he’s run out of material. He’s moved on from poking holes in religion, narcissism, the rich and famous to attacking the anonymous on Twitter?
I remember the office special feature, where Ricky says they must not bring Brent back. Took ages, but I'm glad they did. By far Ricky's best character
I actually quite liked the film after desperately hoping for more The Office since it ended. I am interested how people could tell Merchant wasn't involved from a comedy aspect like what jokes etc are stylistically Merchant?
I know Sunday Brunch is a live program and as such probably has no need of editors (decent or otherwise), but seriously 6:00 Surely you guys could have gotten _someone_ from channel 4 to edit it properly!!
Ricky is the only one who is documenting narcissistic people these days who act like they own the place. People need to be more humble and remember it's not all about them have empathy treat people the way you want to be treated. People walk around all holier than thou acting like they are perfect
The film was terrible because it didn’t have Merchant to hold him back from lazy comedy. Also the premise that the musicians were absolutely horrible to him,, that was unwatchable, I’m a musician and know lots of other musicians both session and mainstream and they would not behave like that. Much funnier if they had all thought they were good, and all had party’s and crazy times together.
Initially I was disappointed ,not so many laughs.....But on second inspection it was just darker and actually quite sad.....just different from The Office as time had moved on and Brent hadn't......Try it again ;)
They went in the completely wrong direction with the film new characters with not enough time to build a relationship and get to like them the film should’ve been then re-visiting everyone from the original office also Stephen merchant writing is clearly missing

I know this person isn't a character nor is he a creation of Ricky Gervais, but I would have to say that Karl Pilkington is by far the best.

Thought Hollywood would have Epsteined Ricky Gervais by now.

David Brent is a fictional character - I’m not entirely convinced
Weird how they cut while Ricky was talking about David Bowie

Less said about that film the better
