Oh man...Excellent video. I'm about to start my project with Brick Veneers...when I get to the grouting stage, I think I will be all set. I'll just keep referring back to this video as necessary. Thank you!
I'm attempting to find a workable solution myself. My guess is that much depends on the quantity of sand in the mix and perhaps even the shape of the particles.
FYI take it from me, you'll want to be careful as you can, and to not drip mortar on your brick work. Some craftsmen refer to it as "smearing" up your masonry work. What happens is that when you smear it up and it dries, you always have a mortar haze on the face of your brick. This is O. K. if you are going to wash it with a cleaner, but you really only want to use a typical cleaner solution outdoors and then only if you know what you're doing. Brick cleaner has a kind of strong acid in it that can damage stuff and make you blind and other bad stuff. It is possible to coat the face of the brick with a resist that keeps mortar from sticking, but that kind of keeps mortar from sticking where you want it to stick. There is a learning curve.
@@haipengxu the name is stoneselex. However, I would suggest that you find a sack of gray tile mortar, if you are adventurous, and use that to do the grout . If you have already got the thin brick, you will have the option of using a better/best tile mortar to set the brick to the substrate.
I just did my first brick veneer wall on my kitchen island and I loved it with the mortar but then I used grout. It was awful messy and I planned on white washing it anyways but after the grouting thank goodness for that. It would probably look very unprofessional to a professional but I’m still more happy with it than my original wall tbh.
Good work! In Denmark we use acid water solution and sweep it, to take care og those white spots. And when we use the brush diagonally not to damage grout. Thanx
only critiques i would say are, the mortar was a little wet which can cause more mess than needed, and when brushing you should always brush up and down with a slight angle forwards, otherwise you are just brushing mortar out of the joints.
Appreciate this video! I'm getting ready to redo the grout on the steps leading out the back door. The previous owner was cheap/lazy and used a clear silicone caulk. Pulled that all off yesterday, cleaned out a good amount of the loose grout. Ready to do the this part!
Great video! Would you know if bricks veneers panels can be glued on a rubberised asphalt wall? My terrace's walls are covered in that material. Thank you🙂
Hey mate. Great video. I appreciate how casual you are - despite obviously being damn good at what you do! Thanks for encouragement, I'm going to give it a go.
So outside, if it rains with in two days? Will it hurt cover it with plastic like 6 mill plastic roll? Only thing there is condensation? Any thoughts? Cause soon as I do my rock wall, even if no rain in forecast it will rain.
Can this still be done with modified mortar? I tried it recently and had some difficulties as it seemed like the mortar was setting up inside the bag. Any tips or tricks
I am grouting brick veneer in my kitchen and bought some premix grout, but the directions say to pre wet my tiles (in my case, brick) before grouting. You didn't use any water on yours, so I'm confused on whether or not I need to wet the bricks beforehand or not? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
i love u LMFAOO no bullshit thanks though, i just started chimney work and i spent 8 hours today tuckpointing a chimney for the first time, i had a bag and all but was scared thinking it was already to runny when it wouldn't go through the bag, now i no i was probably no where near the right consistency lol THANKS AGAIN
So do I NOT need to use a concrete bonding adhesive/glue to it before applying the mortar mix? I had seen another video where they applied the glue. But if I don't need it, I won't use it.
I recently tried to repoint my brickwork using a mortar bag as per this video and it was a disaster! The mortar seemed to separate in the bag when I squeezed it and all that came out the end was a dribble of dirty water…made a right mess. I tried increasing the size of the hole but that didn’t help. I ended up pouring the mix back in the bucket and using a trowel to fill between the bricks. Not sure why but this mortar bag technique certainly didn’t work for me.
Am I being pranked right now? I've bought at least 20 different kinds of peanut butter over the years and not a single one of them, even the natural ones (when stirred up) would pour out of a cup like pancake batter 🤔
I just attempted this. The mortar has to be very thick so that it doesn't run on a vertical surface. The demo has those panels angled back so the mortar stays in.
Couldn't be more wrong lmao I install stone everyday and my butter is always wet. Go ahead and grout with dirt, bag will blow out within a hour and arm will be sore asf from struggling to squeeze dirt out
It's just practice. Get the consistancy correct and it runs easy and sticks. There is a bit of technique to squeezing it in like going bottom to top or letting ends fill up and grab the sides.
All I got to say is that if you aren't familiar with working with bricks and mortar, take whatever scraps you have and set them to a separate piece of plywood and then practice the pointing before you destroy your brick. I would even suggest that you can install the brick and hire a pro to grout it. I can almost gaga that at the very least you will need to as if wash it when you're done
Actually no. You are using a colloquial term for spatula. Presenting your knowledge as "fact" reveals your lack of experience on this topic. From the Journeyman's study guide of the local BAC Local 1 representing Minnesota and South Dakota: Spatula is a broad, flat, blade used to mix, spread, lift and smooth viscous or particulate material including concrete, plaster and paints which may come in various forms to suit tasks of varying nature. Task specific terms may include float, trowel, tuck-pointing or gauging tool among others.

Dude cut the music off, put the video without music. If you like that annoying stuff fine keep one for you to watch and one for people who do not want to hear th ting ting and actually want to hear what you have to say. Please
1st Class video, what YT was made for.
All meat and potatoes, no filler, professional skillset and application guidelines.
Thanks for posting !!
This helped me so much. The exact video I was looking for. Thank you.

Brilliant, by far the best video I’ve seen on this subject thank you 🙏

what if you are painting the brick anyway
Hello, what is the name of this grout and where can I buy it?

Great video. Very helpful for DIY projects!
Awesome, glad you make it simple, and cheap, others have so many tools and steps
This was incredibly helpful. Thanks for sharing your videos.
Great video. I gonna be doing my front porch in the next 2 weeks. Wish me luck.
Best video on grouting I've seen.

This was far and away the most useful how-to for using a mortar bag. Thank you!

Thank you, do you have any videos on how to clean exterior brick? Mine has got white stains on it, probably from water

I agree with Kimberly Chicago...thanks for sharing your professional traits / skills.
Great video! Thank you so much. Very informative and useful.
Tanks, it is perfectly clear, Thanks for posting ! ! !
Great video. Thank you. Can you make a video about white washing bricks?
How about the corners? How can we apply that grout at angled walls smoothly?
Awesome brother. Been putting off for several years but gonna do this this upcoming week!
Very helpful video. Thank you!
Great video. Thanks for sharing bro.
Thankyou! Really helpful video, just what i wanted!
That the video I like. No bullshit, straight to the point.
So it takes longer to dry the same mortar on different stones?

Great video, very helpful! 👏👏👏😉😉😉
Do I need to pressure wash or brush the wall first?
Awesome Video!!
Hello, what is the name of this grout and where can I buy it?
Little tip,, put half water and half bonding adhesive really helps it grab and hold on
i love u LMFAOO no bullshit thanks though, i just started chimney work and i spent 8 hours today tuckpointing a chimney for the first time, i had a bag and all but was scared thinking it was already to runny when it wouldn't go through the bag, now i no i was probably no where near the right consistency lol THANKS AGAIN
Great video,very helpful.
Do you not mix sand with the cement?
Looks great , can you add color or do you have color mixed ready to use ?
So it’s basically like caulking just rougher
loved this, thanks!
Great tutorial
So do I NOT need to use a concrete bonding adhesive/glue to it before applying the mortar mix? I had seen another video where they applied the glue. But if I don't need it, I won't use it.
Awesome Video. THANKS
Do u add any sand mixture with the cement
It Pre mix
Danke
is that sandless grout?
Great video.

Helpful info. thanks,
Your peanut butter is a lot runnier than my peanut butter
Don’t be so Literal. Plus it thickens after a few minutes
@@adtwoods But that's the whole point of that word. To give us a literal parallel of what the consistency should be.
Maybe he uses that organic peanut butter from the health food store....that stuff always looks runny to me
It looks exactly like the fresh made peanut butter I get at fresh thyme 🤷

Very helpful, thank u
Where do you buy those bag?
in a shop that sells bags
Lowe’s or Home Depot

Where can I buy that grout bag?
I just bought some on Amazon
Is this cement or grout, is there a difference?

Good job. Spatula is a kitchen tool….that is a gauging trowel.

Spatula..... we are not making grilled cheese here. That tool is a bucket trowel.

Rommel!
Cake batter. The grout should be the consistency of cake batter, not peanut butter. Excellent vid, thanks for sharing.
Have you heard of a jointer. And I would be embarrassed to show that lol
this guy has never eaten peanut butter
IMO the mortar was a little too wet tbh.
I literally takes 30 seconds to rinse out the grout bag! Lol. Seriously?
your grout is too thin. If that was a vertical wall it would run out.
Worst pointing i have seen joints not full
Those who cannot, typically criticize those that can.
I guess this is okay for diyers. There is a lot of ignorance and obvious lack of experience showcased here though
Looks to thin to me, and that's a trowel, not a spatula, just sayin
