  • Hi, guys! This episode of 'The Training Series' is about how to mantle. Unfortunately, it is not something that is really common in gyms so try and practice it when you can! It is a very important skill for those looking to transition outdoors.

Short and sweet. I never thought how putting the tip of my foot was actually pushing me off. The heel definitely looks more comfortable.

Working on a climb with a decent big slopey kind of hold, and that’s the only thing you have to mantle of off, this looked really useful, hopeful I’ll get it next time I got to the gym, but I think I need to work on my strength too

Nice video, I appreciate the effort :)
Unfortunately I am not sure if it was enough of a help for me to properly perform a mantle in the bouldering gym. I really have a hard time mantling and I am not sure wether i should work on my flexibility or on my muscles. I don't really know how exactly you can get hip flexibility but on the other hand I also feel like you have to work a lot with your "leg biceps" if you put your foot into a heel hook position.
Yet I am going to try getting my hips as close to the wall as possible the next time I am in the gym to analyze how much I can really get out of your advice. I am sure though I will be able to improve at least a bit, because up to this point I never really thought about doing that :D
Thank you and keep up the good work :)

The mantle works just as well with the tip of the foot, its all about being able to shift your body weight to the right as you rightly said. Nice video though.

Depends on your hip flexibility! Works differently for different people!

When mantling, you most frequently need to put some part of your foot on a hold thats above and/or to the side of ur center of gravity (like in the video). Imo its easier to put a heel on a hold and then pull (or mantle..) your center of gravity over that foothold than putting ur tips on it straight away. The tip of the foot usually hits the hold once ur center of gravity is over the hold (which didn't happen in this video coz the green hold was a bit in the way and the foothold was to small..) But of course, its all about getting that body weight into the right position ;)
