@@WatsitTooyah I think its mostly because of proprietary sound, they want to make sure you cant listen to those sounds without their sleep buds other wise people wouldn't get them.
And I'm not sure why they dont make it into a regular wireless earbud and still only allow access to sound through the sleepbuds. Maybe it's too small to fit in the hardware necessary to make it into a regular wireless earbuds. But then again if those sounds are that effective it could just be worth it.

@@holohulolo soundcore has some new sleep buds that can also function like normal wireless earbuds.
But it still stands that local audio playback on the bud is more energy efficient than having to constantly stream over bluetooth.

It legitimately makes me viscerally Andy that Bose would come out with a pair of headphones, charge $250, and then not sure you to listen to your own media. Like holy hell that is ridiculous. Great vid btw going to buy the cheap moitas and if they don't work out I will go with the $100 band style.

The point nobody mentions here is Bose have gone down the low/no frequency route- because of concerns of long periods of exposure to Bluetooth frequencies while sleeping (8hrs!).
The reason Bose don’t stream, is it actually uploads the sound file to the ear unit- so that there doesn’t need to be a active Bluetooth connection over the sleep period. In fact, I don’t think the 2 seperate ear are even communicating to each other. It’s essentially the safer option.
Traditional Bluetooth earbuds are constantly sending signals between each other (essentially through your head), and back to the device/phone.
Read into that what you will, but I’m personally not willing to risk the unknown- long, sustained head exposure to Bluetooth signals to the brain; if alternatives like Bose address this.

I have a problem with MASSIVE noise outside my flat at least 3 days of the week. Kids partying shouting screaming loudly until 4am. I found that you can get used to much cheaper simple foam earplugs, with a high enough DB rating they will kill all the noise. if they’re a gentle enough foam, and if you use salt water in your ears to sterilise the ears, this helps them to settle and not to itch. Eventually you hardly notice they’re there. Takes a while to get used to them, but after a few weeks - it’s fine. No need to spend hundreds of dollars.

Wow, I can't believe Bose has only their proprietary sounds/music! So wrong! I've been using Acoustic Sheep sleep phones for years, but I just got new ear piercings and was hoping to find something that won't actually touch or press on the earrings. I guess I'll just use a travel pillow and put my ear through the hole, LMAO! Thank you for this review.

I have the acousticsheep phones and they are pretty decent. I find myself adjusting them all the time though as it's hard to get an even sound on the ears. While adjusting for sound it's easy to kind of put uneven pressure with the headband. I also find the material (grey soft stuff) kind of a bit too hot. It would be great if they went with a thinner material that's very unlikely to get too warm. Even on cold nights I find my ears getting a bit too hot. I'd be interested to try sleepbuds but I want to be able to listen to my own stuff! I think we still have a way to go until we get really great sleep/rest headphones. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the report Lauren. I need sleep headphones or stay awake all night. I have been using Dubslabs Bedphones for about two years. However, they are on the more pricey side and the battery dies in them fairly quickly (they stop holding a charge). The customer service has been great with the company and they send out replacements within the warranty without question. That said, I would gladly buy the Bose pair if I could listen to my own stuff (I am an audible listener to sleep), did you talk to the company? Is there any chance they will be able to provide a sleep headphone that supports bluetooth?

I have long hair and I don't want a headband-style, I want something On-ear and I have been using Meizu HD50's. The strange part is I've been sleeping in these for .. 7 years
These headphones are made so good, but they are on-ear headphones. I've changed the ear pads and if I could get a pair of headphones with replaceable parts, or things that can't break, that's what I'm looking for
I don't like headbands because I sleep in a ponytail and on hot days I'd just sweat right through them, if it was made up of something physically bulletproofer, I'd be good.
I do love BASSY bassy sounds when I am listening to asmr... main sounds that I like are fuzzy mic touching and I like accurate bass, not muddy bass, I like sparkly highs, too, and I would consider myself an Audiophile
I do want to monitor music before I go to sleep and my meizu HD50's are a real-world application style headphone and they are wired (I don't want to charge headphones while they are off my head, would like options with Type c that can charge and play at the same time so I can actually plug them in and be good (I also teather my headphone cable to the wall so that I don't rip them out of my laptop or phone depending on where I want to hear them)
I have a 3 foot cord that is in a positon that prevents choking, also very easily quick-disconnects if my headphones fall off and yank or pull and another set of cords lined up for when I need to replace them
I think these headphones are almost it... I want a way to secure ear-pads to be like this (a twisting motion to take them off, rings that you can put on generic Protein leather ear pads) and some type of rigidity that doesn't break, preferably not thin plastic
every headphones that I've ever worn that was made of plastic has broken so NOOOO plastic on headbands, or in the way of the speaker drivers)
