The fact that Ivy almost called with a pair of 6s is almost as amazing as Dwan's massive bluff. This is like Godzilla versus Kong, and I'm pretty sure I would evaporate under the kind of pressure these guys put themselves through.
@K. G. R. played the hand HORRIBLY if he could think a pr of sixes was good on the river. If he thought durr could be weak, he should've raised flop or turn. Only reason to flat is if he thinks durr is strong and wants to try to draw out and get paid on river. Big mistake by Ivey!

@@jonnyblaze9293 had a flush draw and a gut shot straight draw he was going to call until the river. And by this time Dwan wasn't new, he knew he was capable of shooting four barrles with nothing. and Dwan got really lucky that he hit the 6 and not the ace if Ivey had had a pair of Js, Qs, Ks I think he'd likely feel compelled to call. But calling 260K actual real money with just a pair of 6s is hard even for these guys who play for this kinda money all the time. If this had been a tournament and not a cash game and lets say that it was a similar situation of what would have been on the line in terms what he'd had left in the stack. He'd most likely have called cause if his read was wrong then hey, yeah it's gonna suck but it wouldn't have hurt like losing the same amount as what a very nice home costs.
Dwan almost literally cried, so Ivey could tell he wasn't strong, the problem was he could be bluffing with something like 77 and then he'd be screwed.
Also when I say that Dwan almost cried, I'm not suggesting I would have done better, and I'm not trying to backseat play the hand in a way that is meant to suggest that I myself would have done better. Are you kidding me? If I had been in that pot with Dwan's hand liquids would have come out of every place in my body. Probably even had some classic cartoon holes in me that would burst out like a fountain if I started to drink water.
It wasn't the lights it was the weight of carrying those heavy balls that watered Dwan's eyes.

Barry didn't raise preflop in early position with a 2 in his hand. Most likely 10's or better or AK, AQ, AJ. He would fold overcards and just call flop with the overpair like he did. Eastgate calls last position pre in family pot with a why not smile, hesitantly calls flop. None of them would fold A2 there, but they did fold so was not hard to figure out for Dwan that Eastgate had weak 2 and Barry the overpair.

@@andyt9181 Eastgate raising the flop would be a disaster...if you want to get the money in you have to call down and keep dwans bluffs in. You'll lose money vs a better 2 either way
@@andyt9181 eastgate played terrible. Specially knowing that Dwan is very capable of bluffing. Dwan could have bluffs, overpairs, top pair top kicker. Its a terrible fold.
More obvious when you look at it again that Eastgate had it the way he disgustingly mucked his hand. I think that’s what Dwan was referring to
Gabe Kaplan is by far the best poker commentator out there!
He was back at the time... poker was way different in the 00s though! Ranges were not really a thing, nor was equity, implied odds(even though Gabe indicates it in the last hand of this vid, but wasn't a term) or the sizing. I don't think Gabe has kept up with the changes now. Remains funny at least, but not as much as then!
I think Gabe is still the best... he has that magic insight to poker and people... and really gets the feelings the players are going through. No math can top that.

Durrrr popularized poker in this era. I remember i was in college and watching this young kid bulldoze his way into these top players. Just unbelievable. I started playing poker this era because of Dwan.

Dwan vs. Ivey would have been one of the greatest if not THE greatest NLH call of all times. And a perfect display of "Play the player, not the game".
The greatest play of all time was Stu Ungar calling with TEN HIGH when his opponent went all-in.
The golden age of poker and its full of great characters like Tom Dwan. Its amazing how well he played against these guys being the youngest one. He was well ahead of his years as a pro player.
Phil galfond talked about how him and Tom would discuss how to take advantage of these mostly weak players at this time. They also felt slighted because they considered there online games way tougher than this lineup, yet everyone considered these guys the best. So Tom went in and cashed out big
Phil Galfond couldnt do it live at the highest starkes tough. Yeah variance plays a very big part. But dwan crushed it
Dont try any of these bluffs at a 1-2 table.
The smaller the stakes, the less likely bluffs go through.

Pretty much all of the plays except the last one are horrible donkey plays. The last play is one you can make in any game and it’s probably good.
The Ivey bluff was insane but knowing Peter had a set and Barry had KK or AA range and getting them both to fold imo was the best play of the video.
Peter had trips. Sets are only when you have a pocket pair. Just some specific terminology I didn't learn until a few weeks ago
Not only does Dwan make him lay down his hand, but at the end he tells the table with absolute certainty that Eastgate laid down the best hand without it ever being shown. It's at this point Eastgate should realise that he sat down at the wrong table.

@@velcrotastesgood yeah, there actually is a difference between a set and trips. A set is a pocket pair that hits the card to make it harder to put someone on 3 of a kind vs trips were there is pair on board like 7 3 3 and holds 4-3 or something

Used to stay up till 2am to watch Poker After Dark on TV. I always saw Dwan as being the best. Nobody bluffed or called bluffs like him.

It’s because his range is stronger. Eastgate is calling dwans reraise with Barry behind who just opened up the action with many ppl multi-way. Barry gets great odds to call on the flop and if he sort of caps his range with the call and not another reraise
Even sicker is knowing how strong your opponents are and still having the balls to bluff them off it
What makes it even more fun is that he started betting Brunson about it. They actually raised the stakes on it a couple of times before Eastgate confirmed he had a 2.
Eastgate was out of position with greenstien behind him. Greenstien under bet his hand before the flop allowing a family pot so anyone could hit trips, full house flush draw. Since dawn bet so far out of position into so many players he is representing a monster like pocket 10’s. Greenstien just misplayed his bullets so badly he probably just decided to get out before he gets stacked.

It's stoic isn't it. It's a slowing acting meditation. Like zen but he was breaking on that last one. I try o do this to. I shut up if I'm lying so shuting up when you tell the truth is smart. Dwan is my favorite cash game player.
If you notice back in this era that Tom's bet sizing ensured that if he ever got raised he could release, but since the bets were so big and no one did raise him, he knew they werent that strong. Im sure they have all adjusted since then to this, but you can see how it works in every hand, no re-raise from others due to his bet sizing.
When Dwan plays against Patrick Antonius, Patrick will reraise him and then Dwan knows (usually) to fold.
They had a bot that beat all the humans and it played mainly straight forward GTO with overbets spreadiled throughout
I mean props to Elezra for calling with the ace, durr could have easily been trapping with a set.

Ivey must have watched this later and felt ill that he didn't call. He even knew he had the best hand once he folded, the confirmation must have been heart breaking
To his credit, that is one of the toughest, if not the toughest, to bluff catch. It was def top 5 bluffs i have ever seen
@@BlanBlan19901990 for sure, and let's be honest on here, only a world class pro could even make that decision to even consider making that call. At them stakes anyway, like if it's a micro stakes it's not hard, but when you facing a 268k bet to call with just one pair and bottom at that... the call would have been legendary, but the bluff itself was legendary.

@@legendaryanime9947 Stakes are all relative to what you are worth,if you have $10 to your name then a $1 buy in game is high stakes,for Ivey it was about making the correct decision and obviously winning a lot of money,he gambles millions in the casino this is low-mid stakes for him.

I love the way he plays because it's the antithesis to what I do. I lean a little nitty at times, but seeing Dwan run bluff after bluff with no fear is just pure poker. Playing against him would he my worst nightmare, and I've got a lot to learn from his style

His biggest bluff was saying he'd play any one heads up for a million and then stopped playing when Jungleman was crushing him
That Swedish destroyed him for 6 million then he had the bright idea giving 3:1 to Daniel Cates (a heads up NL holdem monster even Phil Ivey avoided) to 200/400 and ended up getting clobbered.

I love that first hand! The flop bet was perfect by Dwan. He immediately was able to decipher Eastgate had the weak deuce by calling the bet and that Greenstein probably had A’s or K’s. That turn bet wasn’t as crazy once he knew what the others had.

I really fell that if Elezra doesn't spoil the intensity and focus by making a clown of himself, Ivey makes that call. Maybe I'm wrong but just a suspicion. He's leveling himself into it (and I see why) before he feels under pressure and the situation gets deflated by that nonsense
I think it may have also affected the hand. Would have been the best call in history behind the legendary Unger call.

@@BigWes95 yeah, that's what I just said. He is in a very intense place and then all of that happens and he begins to resume the intensity and starts laughing. When it comes to something marginal and intuitive, of course everything affects the decision.

I think that first hand is the most impressive of all. The Ivey hand is impressive, but talking two players out of hands like trip deuce and pocket aces is just unbelievable to me. With cards facedown I would have assumed Dwan had 10's full with how he played. Just unbelievable to chase out a family pot with a bluff like that.

It’s not that tough to come to that conclusion. Based on the positions it didn’t make sense for Barry to have a 2, but it wasn’t unreasonable for Peter to have one in that spot.

I remember seeing this hand 10 years ago, still not sure Dwan realized Eastgate had a duece and he could get him to fold it.
2500$ with 8 players in the Pot... Peter only had 4 2 off , Dwan evaluated the Hand Perfectly and had the Balls to make the Play. Was not a Bad Fold by Eastgate.
