I purchased two additional batteries for it when they were on sale, spent like $200 additional for those... went to turn on the drone and out of nowhere it wouldn't pair. I didn't do anything, no updates, nothing, it just wouldn't pair. I've maybe flown it 3 times, total, pristine new condition. Contacted GoPro and they told me they don't support the drone anymore and that I'm shit outta luck. Offered me a 25% off coupon that was valid for 14 days... and told me to suck the $1200 I spent on the drone as a loss. Never again will I deal with their BS, worst customer service system on the planet.
This worked for me! The controller and Drone were paired. 1. Turn everything off. 2. Remove stabilizer / camera and remove camera from stabilizer 3. Turn on controller 4. Turn on drone 5. Wait for error to insert stabilizer. Insert ONLY the stabilizer 6. Wait for error to insert camera. Insert camera into stabilizer. 7. Drone will beep, blink and recognize 8. Wait for Drone to recalibrate stabilizer 9. Go fly!
It's working perfectly now- not sure why- After spending two days trying various things to get it to pair, including the steps above twice, I submitted a few requests to GoPro for support. They tried contacting me several times, and I couldn't hear them on the other end. That was a few days ago. I again requested them to call me again today, explained the issue, exactly the same pairing issue as described in 30 different UA-cam videos, and they called me today and asked me to send them a video of the issue. So I set up the drone on the dining table, mounted the phone on a tripod and hit record. As soon as I started the controller and it asked to pair with the drone, I turned on the drone and it worked perfectly. The stabiliser activated, the drone paired, and the camera is recognised. I'll fly it this afternoon and get back to you. I must have requested support via the GoPro hub ten times, and it works as soon as they get in touch with me. Last week I did download the GoPro app and register the drone, stabiliser, and GoPro, etc, on the app, first time I have ever done it, and perhaps that had something to do with it???? I don't know, but it seems to work perfectly now...
Im trying to follow this steps today as I just find out my drone is having the same issue. I haven’t use my karma in a few months and of all my drones, this is by far my favorite. We need to let gopro know that there are several of people who still love the karma and we would like to see them not giving up on such amazing device! ✌🏽
Tried this several times, did not work, the harness never activated. GoPro does not give a crap. Great to see it worked for you, but I think you just got lucky. I will put her back into storage now. 😭
Just found these videos after trying to fly my drone out of storage. It will not pair with controller, and it’s doesn’t turn off automatically using this guide. Keep up the fight! I’ll sign up! Thanks! PNW
Sadly my drone doesn't stop trying to pair or shutdown until battery is drained. So I restarted your steps and didn't work that way either. 😞 Though grateful to people like you for putting in the effort to help others. Still get a thumbs up from me.
2 años esperando soluciones y ya pierde uno la esperanza. El cardan no funcionaba nunca al encender dron. El emparejamiento siempre sin éxito. Encontré este video y me animé a probar. Cuando modo emparejar no se apaga solo. Si enciendo alguna vez parpadea en rojo y si acoplo cardan se activa. Bravo!!! vuelvo a verlo moverse en el dron. Cuando apago y coloco Hero 6 black y enciendo no ocurre nada, no se mueve cardan ni enciende cámara. Por el contrario si acoplo sin apagar enciende cámara y reconoce está en el dron por el símbolo en pantalla. Finalmente apagas y de nuevo se queda igual no responde cardan. He conseguido incluso en diversas pruebas luz encendido de color amarillo latente, no sé qué significa. Una batería ya no funciona cuando cargo, la otra sí. Gracias de todas formas por intentar resucitar el dron. Nunca compraré ni recomendaré nada que diga GOPRO es una basura y una empresa apestosa.

Thank you soooo much brotherI did as you suggested and was able to get my Karma drone and controller replaced by Gopro and YES they waived the "One Time Fee" Again Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to "taking it to the man" when everyone knows they were not right. Cant wait to fly my drone! You ROCK!!!
Tried with no luck. Drone will not power off from pairing mode without removing battery. Hopefully this will be the beginning of a fix for everyone....
I had the same issue yesterday: drone wasn‘t able to control the gimble, could not be turned off and would not connect to the controller. The last time I used the drone was half a year ago, in between I used the camera and the gimble without the drone (which seems to be part of the problem). Today I did the exact things shown in the video and - magically - I was able to reconnect drone and controller and I was able to fly as if nothing ever happened. So in my opinion it’s definitely a software bug and no problem with the hardware. Many thanks to Gavin - you saved my holidays!!!
Thank you so much this finally worked for me. I just want to say I’m starting to think GoPro has something to do with this issue and they can resolve it on there end. I’ve tried this probably 25 or 30 times with no success. I’ve even tried different things I’ve saw on other videos and nothing has worked. So yesterday I finally contacted GoPro and the was very helpful well I should say as helpful as he could be. He walked through all these different things to try to get the drone to connect to no avail. So he opened up a ticket and told me to create a video put it on UA-cam then send them the URL. So I did that last night. Now today for some reason don’t ask me why I said let me just try one more time. So I watched your video like I’ve done about 30 times before and followed it step by step. But this time when I put the harness in it activated. Every other time I’d put the harness in and nothing would happen. But now after opening a ticket with a GoPro tech and doing a video and posting it on UA-cam. It all of a sudden worked. It might sound crazy but I think it’s something on there end. I did give him the serial number on my drone and the serial number from the remote and now today it just comes to life. It’s either a real coincidence or something is up.
I wish this worked but my drone won't turn off while pairing it just keeps flashing. However I am intrigue by your discovery and think I might try different combinations to see what might work for me. I suggest everyone should play around with different methods as it could be different for some of us. This is better than packing it away again waiting for a miracle to happen besides I got nothing to lose. Cheers for the video and so glad you got yours to work again.
@@BennyMr7000I found that if you connect to the camera via a mobile quick and change the gimbal to a grip, then sometimes the gimbal then starts working in the drone, but the drone flashes red very quickly and does not react at all, after a reboot it does not connect again as usual. I also once managed to somehow get everything to pair and work, but in the end I flew only one evening and the next day it did not work again)
What up dude, I’m so stoked for you because I’m suffering the same go pro karma drama, however my drama is slightly different, mine says that it is already paired when I check under pairing, then I try to press start to get is hummin’, yet I either get to a red warning on the upper screen of the remote while that tells me I have a “connection” issue and to try again later 🤷🏻♂️. Bat in hand, I’m about to go office space on this thing if it doesn’t show me a sign of life soon, please let me know if you have any suggestions other than what worked for you here, but fyi I’m going to use your video right now to see if this magically helps mine resuscitate too, why not
hi, i've only just learned of all of this after trying to use my drone the other day, been sitting in the cupboard for a while. i tried your video, appreciate it. didn't work for me mine just stays in pairing mode. power button has no respone on drone and have to actually pull the battery out to turn it off. be lucky if i've flown it half a dozen times from new. guess i have a $2k brick. i'm in new zealand and going by this i'll never buy another gopro product in my life. was looking at a new action camera, won't be a gopro now!. appreciated your video and pleased you got your one repaired/replaced
Does not work for me. Mine stays in pairing mode what appears to be indefinitely. Also, my controller says it has an update availble, installs it, says it is successful, and then says again there is an update available. I've installed the update 3-4 times now..

Thanks for your support bro congratulations on getting yours to fly. I repaired mine differently though. First off I had two thing wrong with mine. I was getting a error for landing leg not fully extended and no matter what I did I couldn’t get it to go away. So I bought a broken non pairing drone and switched out the circuit board on both sides of the drone that has the micro switches on them that tell the main board that the drone is is in the ready position. Second thing I did was change the complete main board out with the one that was supposedly not pairing and after one attempt it paired and it now works perfectly. I’m stoked. What I did see on my old board was some heat blueing from heat on one if the components I believe it was related to one of the pairing process. Total cost was 50.00 someone basically sold me their drone without controller gimble or camera. It was just for parts. Hope this helps. Figured that the drone is the drone sends the pairing signal so the issue must be with it. I also visually inspected every tape wire connection on the board and two of them had begun to turn color from corrosion I cleaned waterproofed and electrical glued them in place so they wouldn’t vibrate loose.
The drone powers off as it reaches the hardware failure timeout limit. There appears to be a couple of pairing issues, there appear to be a lot of people that cant put the drone into pairing mode because the operating system fails to load on the drone. Your operating system is loading hence you can put it into pairing mode and you can actually power the unit off with the power button.
Man, thank you for this. It works perfectly. Also, I recommend doing the part where you plug the camera case with the drone turned off and it works anyways. It's better to do it this way, I didn't try it with the drone turned on because of short circuit risk. But, thank you very much for the video. Awesomely made it.

This 100% worked for me! It took me about 4 attempts and the drone was still acting weird (would turn on with solid lights but was non responsive - would only turn off by pulling the battery) but it eventually paired! I wasnt sure it had worked as all the pairing screeen did was change to say - turn drone off when lights blink green. The lights werent blinking green but i turned it off anyway and it came up on the controller saying paired. The drone seems to still be acting weird and it takes me 3-4 attempts to turn it on and connect but the main thing is the controller is now paired! My advice for anyone trying this would be - If you get to a stage and it isnt behaving the same as described in the video just keep pulling the battery and leave the drone for a minute or so before trying again. I only did the first step once and repeated the later steps until it worked. Thanks Gavin! ETA - The missing step - Once the drone is functioning with the gimbal in place you need to turn it off using the power button before then pressing it to enter pairing mode. Theres no way of entering pairing mode while the drone is switched on.
Unfortunately, my Karma is not shutting off unless I remove the battery. Yes, I do have the GroPro subscription but I am not sure what GoPro will do at this point. How strange for hundreds of people to experience the same issue. Gavin - Appreciate your efforts but I think you should send that letter!!!
Hi Garvin, I tried but Drone will not power off from pairing mode. So I am now trying to get a replacement drone from GoPro who (believe it or not) pretend like they never heard about this problem before.
UPDATE: THIS ONLY WORKED FOR A COUPLE DAYS. NOW ITS BACK TO NOT PAIRING. We will be sending the letter within a week as soon as I am back into a city where I can print and ship it out!
I signed up for the subscription for $4.99 a month and called GoPro and they waived my $126 fee and replaced my drone with a new one. Why submit a letter just call and get it replaced. The new updated messed up the core of the drone.
Great to see your karma working similar issues I can get mine to pair and but comes up with fully extend the landing gear which I replaced with a new one still no change any ideas ?
Hey guys, thanks for all your recommendations, especially Gavin. My Karma NOW got connected again. Heres what I did: I did all the steps, but I tried to install the update from the controller at the point before I put my GoPro (6) in it again. Then I updated the drone first. Then I began at the step where the empty gimbal is in it and put the GoPro into the gimbal. First without battery. Then with the battery and then I updated the GoPro. (In my case it always tried to update the camera first - before the drone itself) Now I could connect the drone- its didnt get a GPS signal first, but when I went outside I could fly it-perfectly. JUST FIXED MY KARMA! You have to make sure each piece has the latest update. My controller updated on it's own and then it wouldn't pair. So after hours of trying I decided to update my camera and Karma stabilizer gimbal through quick app on my phone via bluetooth. After I did that I was able to pair but the drone wouldn't update and it kicked me back out so i went to my GoPro account / devices and pulled up Karma controlled and deleted the serial number. Once I re-entered the serial number and reset the entire controller everything was basically rebooted and up to date. I paired right up and automatically updated the drone. I'll upload video to my page.
Hi Gavin! I know this is an old video but I found you but pulling out my Karma last week and trying way too many time YET AGAIN to get it to pair. What would you recommend I do at this point….contact GoPro?
I tried your fix and others and nothing. Some how I got it to pair. Just by trying different things. I'm not sure if it is a fluke or not. Going to try to see what I different and I will share with you all.
A thought. Do you think you were able to get a GPS signal inside the house where you resolved the problem. Do you think being able (or not) to access a GPS signal might alter outcomes?
Hi Gavin, I performed step by step the procedure and it woks, however after I shutt off the drone and then put it on again. The problem was still there it meance the gimbal and the camera don't pairing with the drone and the controller shows not karma find at the screen. Then I tryed to do it againg uncesfully

I succeed to pair and making fly the drone. I can also calibrate the "boussole" and "accéléromètre". The camera was taking vidéos and moving well. But next time I try to switch on the drone : Nothing appened. The bug start again. I don't understand what happened. This make sure that the hardware is OK ? Or can it be a deficient electric contact ? In this case why does the button on/off stop working ? I have not any answer and I wrote to Gopro in France and in States that they give me a solution. Thank you, all for this information, especially Gavin! I will go over it more carefully. Here's a weird one. Trying to salvage what I could, I removed the gimbal/camera, which was not swinging into position at start up and inserted it into a charged, hand-held stabilizer, thinking I could use it on my bicycles, etc. It worked fine. It also worked fine when I plugged the assembly back into the drone and the second time. Time will tell. If any good has come of this, at all, it's the purchase of an Autel. Thanks again!

I bought my KARMA DRONE from a co-worker almost three years ago. He found it his neighbor's tree and the neighbor allowed him to have it. He brought it to work and eventually I bought it with the camera very cheap. I eventually replaced the broken propellers and got a charger and a controller but the battery would not charge. It sat in the closet until yesterday when my new battery arrived and proceeded to the pairing process which brought me here. I followed all the steps up to a point when I noticed that the controller had a couple of updates and after the that it all connected just fine. I took it out on the back porch for quick mini test and crashed it. I got it up and running again and took it out for a better test run and it worked great until the battery ran down. I'm happy.

Any updates on getting my drone back in the air I am on my way to the house to try this I really hope it works ..!! I am was a little confused about the process I have six karmas and they haven’t been flown in over a year I had them all updated when they had a crash a year and a half or two years ago and I spent a whole day and got them all going at that time. I flew them that summer and they were sitting for well over a year maybe a year and a half I pulled them out two of them and I got the same message on my screen Karmin not found. I wrote a few things One been to turn off the Wi-Fi so the Wi-Fi I did turn off I did not try to repair the two do I need at any point to turn on the pairing mode on the controller that’s where I’m confused. As I said these did work fine a year and a half ago. I didn’t see you put the controller into pairing mode at any point am I doing something wrong with that.
So this is my understanding - I did a firmware update on the controller and my hero6blk- but I cant seem to be able to update the gimbal, which updates the stabilizer - in order for the drone to work all three need an update and the gimbal gets updated with the QUIK app which my gimbal just wont connect to.

I had the same problem Karma send me a replacement drone. I try to pair it and it did the same. I followed your steps the drone went from slow flashing to fast flashing and it showed the red error button. The button changed from blue to red. Let it sit for a while but it did not shutoff. I pushed the button to shut it off. followed the rest of the steps but it never activated the camera kimble. Any more suggestions. I appreciate your video . I will try it a couple more times. Thanks.
I have tried your process several times. My drone just stays in pairing mode until the battery dies. I haven’t been able to fly it for almost two years now. Every time an update came down I’d have issues with it. When it works I really like it though.

Believer or not, today after I have give up with my drone. I decided to try again and guess what. The pairing has work. Blue light flashing and green to conected My drone is now flying, tested
I did the go pro costumer service using the go pro service video service and unfortunately they said, they can not help. I explain to them that once I updated the drone it stop working. they are awere of this and decided they can not help. so sad.
I'm another Karma user with the same pairing issue. My drone was purchased back in 2017, and I couldn't get past step 3 where the pairing mode turns itself off. After exhausting these and some other attempts, I contacted Gopro and am getting a new core. So while it sucks to have the issue, it was a pretty painless customer service interaction to get an RMA initiated - can't fault GoPro for its willingness to send a new drone.
Gavin, I tried your steps. Pairing mode keeps flashing. But I did do the update...Maybe that is why. Pairing mode has been flashing for 13 minutes now. After reading some your comments, I realize it best I just pull the battery to shut it off. Thank you for your video. I did email and I out my name on your class action suit list. Best Regards
Ich habe das Problem auch vor 2 Tagen angefangen mit Support gesprochen haben mir anleitung geschick wo garnix bringt. Habe es genau auch so gemacht wie auf deinem Video. wo ich nach 1std gekommen bin hat die immer noch Grün und Rot geblinkt nervig das ganze.Wenn die Drohne wenigstens mal abschalten würde Nein macht sie nicht. Mein Problem ist das sie davor immer Top geflogen ist. und nach 3 bis 4 Wochen wollte ich sie mal Testen Fliegen, aber beim einschalten ist gekommen Kopplung nicht möglich ich also entkoppelt in der anahme ich kann wieder Kopplen falsch gedacht. Wenn ich die Gopro Karma Starten Power Knopf schaltet sie normal ein Problem Gimbal null Reaktion mit der Gopro6.habe auch schon versucht den Controller auf Werkseinstellung zurück zu stellen alles neu gestarten nix keine Kopplung möglich.Das beste wer wenn es irgendwie eine möglichkeit gibt die GoPro Karma komplett zurück zu stellen Software Firmware ??? geht das irgendwie finde leider keine Hilfe dazu.Lg Tom aus Austria Vorarlberg. ich habe auch die Dji Mini 2 Top ding ich finde aber die Karma ist auch gut wenn sie nicht ohne Grund aufeinmal diesen fehler hätte?? @@franscoisprinsloo3403 does the power button light eventually change? (pairing mode means alternating red and green navigation lights with a flashing blue power button) Even if the drone doesnt shut down, eventually, does the blue light change?
So I’ve followed what you did. Mine does not power down at all. And the Power button flashes only Blue during this attempt. No harness is in the drone. Others here seem to have the same symptoms.
My Karma does not shut off after 3 minutes and beyond, and then when I turn it on without the harness and gopro inserted the flashing red/yellow lights never happen. I don’t know what to do and I have also tried resetting the controller.
When I go to put my GoPro Karma in pairing mode (as instructions show at 2:30) I'm definitely not getting any green or red lights under the propellors at all. Does anyone know of a possible solution for this issue? Thanks in advance!
Have you tried to calibrate your compass? Mine keeps failing the vertical test and I can still fly but no GPS. I doubt I have 30 hours of flight time because I’m always afraid to fly it with all the issues it’s had. Help.
I just acquired some that didn't get the Jan.2020 update that fixed the compass calibration issue, and now all updates are unavailable. Did you find anything that worked?
Does anybody has solved this problem? I have updated my controller but the gimbal wont work at all… Stabalizer was updated through GoPro Quik but nothing happens. Would love to hear some Tipps
my drone has been flashing for the entire length of this video and some. still will not pair or power off. everything was fine until last week now having this pairing issue
I'm not 100% (dont have access to the drone atm) but I've read somewhere that GoPro updated their GPS data which was causing the issue. Something about the Real Time Clock sync with satellites. Wish I was of more help. Good luck team.
my issue is the controller doesn't download maps.. it stops at 79, 80, but never complete.. everything is paired, the gimbal and camera works fine, also the drone flies..but without the gps.. how to download a map...?
I had try, sadly does not work, the pairing on the drone it keep blinking until battery die, not 3 to 5 minute, i have pulled out the battery and try my luck, but unfortunately no luck at all. then I actually can make the drone flash into red light, but mine is blinking faster than your tutorials, plug in the harness nothing happen, but i have once time that the drone is active the gimbal in steady and the lights is normal on the drone, sadly is controller asking me to pair, so.....I have to do 8 second to pair again, when I do that, the gimbal off again. XD. My conclusion is, Mr.Gavin, please send the letter to Gopro. (I am from Malaysia, Southeast Asia)
My karma was working then I took it out after sitting a month and it wouldn't pair or turn on the gimbal. Been at this a few days still no go. Wont power itself off.
Trying... but my drone doesn't shut of.. like, at all... just stays on in pairing mode noe madder what combination of on press or clicks I make to the power button. Only way to turn it off is to remove the battery.
It doesnt works, after he first step, the drone doesn’t goes off, its still on switching de red and green lights in mode pairing, but never goes OFF?? 😢
I tried both methods nothing seems to work.. so I’m basically stuck at step one. When I put my drone in pairing mode the power button just keeps blinking red and won’t shut down. I also tried putting in the harness while the power light is blinking red no activity..
HI Gavin I'm so sorry for having this problem unresolve. I am from Canada, and I was away for about 2yrs. now and I did not bring my drone with me while vacationing in the Philippine. Due to Covid wasn't able to go back to Canada because of restriction . Now I'm start to worrying knowing when I get back I won't be able to fly my drone. I hope by the time I get back everything will be back to normal and fix the problem. Thanks in advance.
nup, the controller turned itself off after about 10 minutes, and the drone has continued to flash in pairing mode for the last 20 minutes... I'm turning it off now and giving up. I will call GoPro and I don't expect them to help at all, because I'm in Australia...
pulled my dead karma from storage to attempt this, the drone never turns itself off so it's probably stuck in some lame firmware boot loop, didn't get a red light like you did after yanking the battery to turn it off, basically sounds like yours clears its bug unlike mine and others. After trying this and leaving it on, unpaired, not in pairing mode, I put the gimbal with gopro in, nothing, I try to hold down on the power button and it wont turn itself off, no matter what, always have to pull the battery. Maybe because yours was in storage long enough it flipped a bit inside and cleared a memory state or something.

It is a drone issue not a controller issue. You can find connecting drones for about 200. Do not replace the controllers
This worked for me! The controller and Drone were paired.

It's working perfectly now- not sure why-
After spending two days trying various things to get it to pair, including the steps above twice, I submitted a few requests to GoPro for support. They tried contacting me several times, and I couldn't hear them on the other end. That was a few days ago. I again requested them to call me again today, explained the issue, exactly the same pairing issue as described in 30 different UA-cam videos, and they called me today and asked me to send them a video of the issue. So I set up the drone on the dining table, mounted the phone on a tripod and hit record. As soon as I started the controller and it asked to pair with the drone, I turned on the drone and it worked perfectly. The stabiliser activated, the drone paired, and the camera is recognised. I'll fly it this afternoon and get back to you. I must have requested support via the GoPro hub ten times, and it works as soon as they get in touch with me.
Last week I did download the GoPro app and register the drone, stabiliser, and GoPro, etc, on the app, first time I have ever done it, and perhaps that had something to do with it???? I don't know, but it seems to work perfectly now...
Im trying to follow this steps today as I just find out my drone is having the same issue. I haven’t use my karma in a few months and of all my drones, this is by far my favorite. We need to let gopro know that there are several of people who still love the karma and we would like to see them not giving up on such amazing device! ✌🏽

Tried this several times, did not work, the harness never activated. GoPro does not give a crap. Great to see it worked for you, but I think you just got lucky. I will put her back into storage now. 😭
Just found these videos after trying to fly my drone out of storage. It will not pair with controller, and it’s doesn’t turn off automatically using this guide. Keep up the fight! I’ll sign up! Thanks! PNW
Sadly my drone doesn't stop trying to pair or shutdown until battery is drained. So I restarted your steps and didn't work that way either. 😞 Though grateful to people like you for putting in the effort to help others. Still get a thumbs up from me.

2 años esperando soluciones y ya pierde uno la esperanza. El cardan no funcionaba nunca al encender dron. El emparejamiento siempre sin éxito. Encontré este video y me animé a probar.
Cuando modo emparejar no se apaga solo. Si enciendo alguna vez parpadea en rojo y si acoplo cardan se activa. Bravo!!! vuelvo a verlo moverse en el dron. Cuando apago y coloco Hero 6 black y enciendo no ocurre nada, no se mueve cardan ni enciende cámara. Por el contrario si acoplo sin apagar enciende cámara y reconoce está en el dron por el símbolo en pantalla. Finalmente apagas y de nuevo se queda igual no responde cardan.
He conseguido incluso en diversas pruebas luz encendido de color amarillo latente, no sé qué significa. Una batería ya no funciona cuando cargo, la otra sí.
Gracias de todas formas por intentar resucitar el dron. Nunca compraré ni recomendaré nada que diga GOPRO es una basura y una empresa apestosa.

Thank you soooo much brotherI did as you suggested and was able to get my Karma drone and controller replaced by Gopro and YES they waived the "One Time Fee" Again Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to "taking it to the man" when everyone knows they were not right. Cant wait to fly my drone! You ROCK!!!
Tried with no luck. Drone will not power off from pairing mode without removing battery.

I had the same issue yesterday: drone wasn‘t able to control the gimble, could not be turned off and would not connect to the controller. The last time I used the drone was half a year ago, in between I used the camera and the gimble without the drone (which seems to be part of the problem). Today I did the exact things shown in the video and - magically - I was able to reconnect drone and controller and I was able to fly as if nothing ever happened. So in my opinion it’s definitely a software bug and no problem with the hardware.

Thank you so much this finally worked for me. I just want to say I’m starting to think GoPro has something to do with this issue and they can resolve it on there end. I’ve tried this probably 25 or 30 times with no success. I’ve even tried different things I’ve saw on other videos and nothing has worked. So yesterday I finally contacted GoPro and the was very helpful well I should say as helpful as he could be. He walked through all these different things to try to get the drone to connect to no avail. So he opened up a ticket and told me to create a video put it on UA-cam then send them the URL. So I did that last night. Now today for some reason don’t ask me why I said let me just try one more time. So I watched your video like I’ve done about 30 times before and followed it step by step. But this time when I put the harness in it activated. Every other time I’d put the harness in and nothing would happen. But now after opening a ticket with a GoPro tech and doing a video and posting it on UA-cam. It all of a sudden worked. It might sound crazy but I think it’s something on there end. I did give him the serial number on my drone and the serial number from the remote and now today it just comes to life. It’s either a real coincidence or something is up.
I wish this worked but my drone won't turn off while pairing it just keeps flashing. However I am intrigue by your discovery and think I might try different combinations to see what might work for me. I suggest everyone should play around with different methods as it could be different for some of us. This is better than packing it away again waiting for a miracle to happen besides I got nothing to lose. Cheers for the video and so glad you got yours to work again.

@@BennyMr7000I found that if you connect to the camera via a mobile quick and change the gimbal to a grip, then sometimes the gimbal then starts working in the drone, but the drone flashes red very quickly and does not react at all, after a reboot it does not connect again as usual. I also once managed to somehow get everything to pair and work, but in the end I flew only one evening and the next day it did not work again)
What up dude, I’m so stoked for you because I’m suffering the same go pro karma drama, however my drama is slightly different, mine says that it is already paired when I check under pairing, then I try to press start to get is hummin’, yet I either get to a red warning on the upper screen of the remote while that tells me I have a “connection” issue and to try again later 🤷🏻♂️. Bat in hand, I’m about to go office space on this thing if it doesn’t show me a sign of life soon, please let me know if you have any suggestions other than what worked for you here, but fyi I’m going to use your video right now to see if this magically helps mine resuscitate too, why not
hi, i've only just learned of all of this after trying to use my drone the other day, been sitting in the cupboard for a while. i tried your video, appreciate it. didn't work for me mine just stays in pairing mode. power button has no respone on drone and have to actually pull the battery out to turn it off. be lucky if i've flown it half a dozen times from new. guess i have a $2k brick. i'm in new zealand and going by this i'll never buy another gopro product in my life. was looking at a new action camera, won't be a gopro now!. appreciated your video and pleased you got your one repaired/replaced
Does not work for me. Mine stays in pairing mode what appears to be indefinitely. Also, my controller says it has an update availble, installs it, says it is successful, and then says again there is an update available. I've installed the update 3-4 times now..

Thanks for your support bro congratulations on getting yours to fly. I repaired mine differently though. First off I had two thing wrong with mine. I was getting a error for landing leg not fully extended and no matter what I did I couldn’t get it to go away. So I bought a broken non pairing drone and switched out the circuit board on both sides of the drone that has the micro switches on them that tell the main board that the drone is is in the ready position. Second thing I did was change the complete main board out with the one that was supposedly not pairing and after one attempt it paired and it now works perfectly. I’m stoked. What I did see on my old board was some heat blueing from heat on one if the components I believe it was related to one of the pairing process. Total cost was 50.00 someone basically sold me their drone without controller gimble or camera. It was just for parts. Hope this helps. Figured that the drone is the drone sends the pairing signal so the issue must be with it. I also visually inspected every tape wire connection on the board and two of them had begun to turn color from corrosion I cleaned waterproofed and electrical glued them in place so they wouldn’t vibrate loose.
The drone powers off as it reaches the hardware failure timeout limit.
There appears to be a couple of pairing issues, there appear to be a lot of people that cant put the drone into pairing mode because the operating system fails to load on the drone. Your operating system is loading hence you can put it into pairing mode and you can actually power the unit off with the power button.

Man, thank you for this. It works perfectly. Also, I recommend doing the part where you plug the camera case with the drone turned off and it works anyways. It's better to do it this way, I didn't try it with the drone turned on because of short circuit risk. But, thank you very much for the video. Awesomely made it.

This 100% worked for me! It took me about 4 attempts and the drone was still acting weird (would turn on with solid lights but was non responsive - would only turn off by pulling the battery) but it eventually paired! I wasnt sure it had worked as all the pairing screeen did was change to say - turn drone off when lights blink green. The lights werent blinking green but i turned it off anyway and it came up on the controller saying paired. The drone seems to still be acting weird and it takes me 3-4 attempts to turn it on and connect but the main thing is the controller is now paired! My advice for anyone trying this would be - If you get to a stage and it isnt behaving the same as described in the video just keep pulling the battery and leave the drone for a minute or so before trying again. I only did the first step once and repeated the later steps until it worked. Thanks Gavin!
ETA - The missing step - Once the drone is functioning with the gimbal in place you need to turn it off using the power button before then pressing it to enter pairing mode. Theres no way of entering pairing mode while the drone is switched on.
UPDATE - my drone also stopped working after a few days... :-(
Unfortunately, my Karma is not shutting off unless I remove the battery. Yes, I do have the GroPro subscription but I am not sure what GoPro will do at this point. How strange for hundreds of people to experience the same issue.

Hi Garvin, I tried but Drone will not power off from pairing mode. So I am now trying to get a replacement drone from GoPro who (believe it or not) pretend like they never heard about this problem before.
UPDATE: THIS ONLY WORKED FOR A COUPLE DAYS. NOW ITS BACK TO NOT PAIRING. We will be sending the letter within a week as soon as I am back into a city where I can print and ship it out!

I signed up for the subscription for $4.99 a month and called GoPro and they waived my $126 fee and replaced my drone with a new one. Why submit a letter just call and get it replaced. The new updated messed up the core of the drone.

My Karma NOW got connected again. Heres what I did:
I did all the steps, but I tried to install the update from the controller at the point before I put my GoPro (6) in it again. Then I updated the drone first. Then I began at the step where the empty gimbal is in it and put the GoPro into the gimbal. First without battery. Then with the battery and then I updated the GoPro. (In my case it always tried to update the camera first - before the drone itself) Now I could connect the drone- its didnt get a GPS signal first, but when I went outside I could fly it-perfectly. Thank you so much for sharing Gavin and good luck with all your Karmas.

JUST FIXED MY KARMA! You have to make sure each piece has the latest update. My controller updated on it's own and then it wouldn't pair. So after hours of trying I decided to update my camera and Karma stabilizer gimbal through quick app on my phone via bluetooth. After I did that I was able to pair but the drone wouldn't update and it kicked me back out so i went to my GoPro account / devices and pulled up Karma controlled and deleted the serial number. Once I re-entered the serial number and reset the entire controller everything was basically rebooted and up to date. I paired right up and automatically updated the drone. I'll upload video to my page.

I tried your fix and others and nothing. Some how I got it to pair. Just by trying different things. I'm not sure if it is a fluke or not. Going to try to see what I different and I will share with you all.

A thought. Do you think you were able to get a GPS signal inside the house where you resolved the problem. Do you think being able (or not) to access a GPS signal might alter outcomes?
Hi Gavin, I performed step by step the procedure and it woks, however after I shutt off the drone and then put it on again. The problem was still there it meance the gimbal and the camera don't pairing with the drone and the controller shows not karma find at the screen. Then I tryed to do it againg uncesfully

I succeed to pair and making fly the drone. I can also calibrate the "boussole" and "accéléromètre". The camera was taking vidéos and moving well. But next time I try to switch on the drone : Nothing appened. The bug start again. I don't understand what happened. This make sure that the hardware is OK ? Or can it be a deficient electric contact ? In this case why does the button on/off stop working ? I have not any answer and I wrote to Gopro in France and in States that they give me a solution. Thank you, all for this information, especially Gavin! I will go over it more carefully. Here's a weird one. Trying to salvage what I could, I removed the gimbal/camera, which was not swinging into position at start up and inserted it into a charged, hand-held stabilizer, thinking I could use it on my bicycles, etc. It worked fine. It also worked fine when I plugged the assembly back into the drone and the second time. Time will tell. If any good has come of this, at all, it's the purchase of an Autel. Thanks again!

I bought my KARMA DRONE from a co-worker almost three years ago. He found it his neighbor's tree and the neighbor allowed him to have it. He brought it to work and eventually I bought it with the camera very cheap. I eventually replaced the broken propellers and got a charger and a controller but the battery would not charge. It sat in the closet until yesterday when my new battery arrived and proceeded to the pairing process which brought me here. I followed all the steps up to a point when I noticed that the controller had a couple of updates and after the that it all connected just fine. I took it out on the back porch for quick mini test and crashed it. I got it up and running again and took it out for a better test run and it worked great until the battery ran down. I'm happy.

I am was a little confused about the process I have six karmas and they haven’t been flown in over a year I had them all updated when they had a crash a year and a half or two years ago and I spent a whole day and got them all going at that time. I flew them that summer and they were sitting for well over a year maybe a year and a half I pulled them out two of them and I got the same message on my screen Karmin not found. I wrote a few things One been to turn off the Wi-Fi so the Wi-Fi I did turn off I did not try to repair the two do I need at any point to turn on the pairing mode on the controller that’s where I’m confused. As I said these did work fine a year and a half ago. I didn’t see you put the controller into pairing mode at any point am I doing something wrong with that.
So this is my understanding - I did a firmware update on the controller and my hero6blk- but I cant seem to be able to update the gimbal, which updates the stabilizer - in order for the drone to work all three need an update and the gimbal gets updated with the QUIK app which my gimbal just wont connect to.
Do You have to go through this every time you want to fly it

I had the same problem Karma send me a replacement drone. I try to pair it and it did the same. I followed your steps the drone went from slow flashing to fast flashing and it showed the red error button. The button changed from blue to red. Let it sit for a while but it did not shutoff. I pushed the button to shut it off. followed the rest of the steps but it never activated the camera kimble. Any more suggestions. I appreciate your video . I will try it a couple more times. Thanks.
I have tried your process several times. My drone just stays in pairing mode until the battery dies. I haven’t been able to fly it for almost two years now. Every time an update came down I’d have issues with it. When it works I really like it though.

I did the go pro costumer service using the go pro service video service and unfortunately they said, they can not help. I explain to them that once I updated the drone it stop working. they are awere of this and decided they can not help. so sad.

I'm another Karma user with the same pairing issue. My drone was purchased back in 2017, and I couldn't get past step 3 where the pairing mode turns itself off. After exhausting these and some other attempts, I contacted Gopro and am getting a new core. So while it sucks to have the issue, it was a pretty painless customer service interaction to get an RMA initiated - can't fault GoPro for its willingness to send a new drone.

Gavin, I tried your steps. Pairing mode keeps flashing. But I did do the update...Maybe that is why. Pairing mode has been flashing for 13 minutes now. After reading some your comments, I realize it best I just pull the battery to shut it off. Thank you for your video. I did email and I out my name on your class action suit list. Best Regards
Ich habe das Problem auch vor 2 Tagen angefangen mit Support gesprochen haben mir anleitung geschick wo garnix bringt. Habe es genau auch so gemacht wie auf deinem Video. wo ich nach 1std gekommen bin hat die immer noch Grün und Rot geblinkt nervig das ganze.Wenn die Drohne wenigstens mal abschalten würde Nein macht sie nicht. Mein Problem ist das sie davor immer Top geflogen ist. und nach 3 bis 4 Wochen wollte ich sie mal Testen Fliegen, aber beim einschalten ist gekommen Kopplung nicht möglich ich also entkoppelt in der anahme ich kann wieder Kopplen falsch gedacht. Wenn ich die Gopro Karma Starten Power Knopf schaltet sie normal ein Problem Gimbal null Reaktion mit der Gopro6.habe auch schon versucht den Controller auf Werkseinstellung zurück zu stellen alles neu gestarten nix keine Kopplung möglich.Das beste wer wenn es irgendwie eine möglichkeit gibt die GoPro Karma komplett zurück zu stellen Software Firmware ??? geht das irgendwie finde leider keine Hilfe dazu.Lg Tom aus Austria Vorarlberg. ich habe auch die Dji Mini 2 Top ding ich finde aber die Karma ist auch gut wenn sie nicht ohne Grund aufeinmal diesen fehler hätte?? @@franscoisprinsloo3403 does the power button light eventually change? (pairing mode means alternating red and green navigation lights with a flashing blue power button) Even if the drone doesnt shut down, eventually, does the blue light change?
@@1percentG When you put it in pairing mode, it never shuts down. Normally turning it on the red light never starts flashing.
@@franscoisprinsloo3403 Same as mine, it goes into pairing mode, the lights alternate blinking, but never shuts down.
So I’ve followed what you did. Mine does not power down at all. And the Power button flashes only Blue during this attempt. No harness is in the drone. Others here seem to have the same symptoms.
My Karma does not shut off after 3 minutes and beyond, and then when I turn it on without the harness and gopro inserted the flashing red/yellow lights never happen.
I don’t know what to do and I have also tried resetting the controller.

When I go to put my GoPro Karma in pairing mode (as instructions show at 2:30) I'm definitely not getting any green or red lights under the propellors at all. Does anyone know of a possible solution for this issue? Thanks in advance!
Have you tried to calibrate your compass? Mine keeps failing the vertical test and I can still fly but no GPS. I doubt I have 30 hours of flight time because I’m always afraid to fly it with all the issues it’s had. Help.
I just acquired some that didn't get the Jan.2020 update that fixed the compass calibration issue, and now all updates are unavailable. Did you find anything that worked?

my drone has been flashing for the entire length of this video and some. still will not pair or power off. everything was fine until last week now having this pairing issue
I'm not 100% (dont have access to the drone atm) but I've read somewhere that GoPro updated their GPS data which was causing the issue. Something about the Real Time Clock sync with satellites. Wish I was of more help. Good luck team.

my issue is the controller doesn't download maps.. it stops at 79, 80, but never complete.. everything is paired, the gimbal and camera works fine, also the drone flies..but without the gps.. how to download a map...?

I had try, sadly does not work, the pairing on the drone it keep blinking until battery die, not 3 to 5 minute, i have pulled out the battery and try my luck, but unfortunately no luck at all.
then I actually can make the drone flash into red light, but mine is blinking faster than your tutorials, plug in the harness nothing happen, but i have once time that the drone is active the gimbal in steady and the lights is normal on the drone, sadly is controller asking me to pair, so.....I have to do 8 second to pair again, when I do that, the gimbal off again. XD.
My conclusion is, Mr.Gavin, please send the letter to Gopro. (I am from Malaysia, Southeast Asia)
Sadly did not work for me. It sat in paring mode for 2hours. Had to do a battery pull to shut it down. Really wished this would have worked for me.
My karma was working then I took it out after sitting a month and it wouldn't pair or turn on the gimbal. Been at this a few days still no go. Wont power itself off.
Trying... but my drone doesn't shut of.. like, at all... just stays on in pairing mode noe madder what combination of on press or clicks I make to the power button. Only way to turn it off is to remove the battery.
I couldn't get past step 3. The drone didn't turn off by itself.
It also does not turn off by pressing the button, only removing the battery.
It doesnt works, after he first step, the drone doesn’t goes off, its still on switching de red and green lights in mode pairing, but never goes OFF?? 😢
I tried both methods nothing seems to work.. so I’m basically stuck at step one. When I put my drone in pairing mode the power button just keeps blinking red and won’t shut down. I also tried putting in the harness while the power light is blinking red no activity..
Still not working for me. The problem is it wont initialize the stabilizer. In the off chance that it does, it will connect.

Mine does the same exact thing. But in pairing mode, it does not shut itself off. I e waited over 10 minutes and it doesn’t ever shut itself off.
HI Gavin I'm so sorry for having this problem unresolve. I am from Canada, and I was away for about 2yrs. now and I did not bring my drone with me while vacationing in the Philippine. Due to Covid wasn't able to go back to Canada because of restriction . Now I'm start to worrying knowing when I get back I won't be able to fly my drone. I hope by the time I get back everything will be back to normal and fix the problem. Thanks in advance.

nup, the controller turned itself off after about 10 minutes, and the drone has continued to flash in pairing mode for the last 20 minutes... I'm turning it off now and giving up. I will call GoPro and I don't expect them to help at all, because I'm in Australia...
pulled my dead karma from storage to attempt this, the drone never turns itself off so it's probably stuck in some lame firmware boot loop, didn't get a red light like you did after yanking the battery to turn it off, basically sounds like yours clears its bug unlike mine and others. After trying this and leaving it on, unpaired, not in pairing mode, I put the gimbal with gopro in, nothing, I try to hold down on the power button and it wont turn itself off, no matter what, always have to pull the battery. Maybe because yours was in storage long enough it flipped a bit inside and cleared a memory state or something.
