Oh but dji has been ready for this for months. Conveniently they released a teaser video for their next drone on the morning of the Karma's release, due to be announced on the 27th. And the "leaks" that are out for it, which look so authentic to the bits we saw in the teaser video, show something that folds up to be even smaller than the Karma. They so did all that on purpose to steal gopro's thunder. If in 7 days dji comes out with a better product, and they probably will, gopro is almost completely fucked.

He had to give it back, but won't be long until they dump a couple in his lap next month knowing it's basically free advertising. It's how the world works. Yeah, gopro, i'd love a couple of your products but i know i mean nothing to you . so it's ok, we just use what we have instead.

i have been flying my mavic mini, but also rewatching this video. I must say, this was the drone i was looking most foward to. Still a great idea as an addon to the gopro, rather than simply a drone itself

I've been a GoPro user for years, I'm invested in it, know how to use it for what I want to capture, and have a lot of mounts for whatever I'm doing at the time. I wanted the Karma stabilizer grip, but for another $500 I could get it and the drone, so it was an easy choice for me, I already had a Hero 5 camera. So far, I love both the drone and the stabilizer grip. It's quick and easy to use and captures magnificent video. It extends the versatility of my GoPro, giving me a stabilized action cam while on foot, car or boat, and a drone cam to capture video I'd get from a hot-air balloon. That's what I wanted. I'm not really into flying drones, it's just another attachment for my camera. I've had no problems with it at all (bought in December 2017) so it appears GoPro has worked the bugs out of it. I really love the stabilizer grip too, it makes the Karma package a good value for me.
If only he know that the mavic mini would come out!

Its actually called "Cable Cam Mode" and who's to say that he even knew how to use that mode with him not having any instructions on how to fly the drone in the first place.

eh, slightly nothing a software update can't fix. The image quality is better then some DJI shots Ive seen. The best part is if GoPro updates the gimbal design you don't need to buy a whole new drone. If they update the camera, you can swap it out. That is whats really dope.
I wonder how the karma with the new gopro 6 and the new updates will work. I might drop the phantom 3 pro and dji osmo+ for this. It seems that the gopro 6 has much better dynamic range and linear at 4K 60fps.
even more tempting with the go pro 7 and its new gimbal like features built in...
still wondering if its compatible with the 3dr drones though as well.

Don't make him an idiot. There are some distorsions. The high buildings don't have the edges parallel. You can see this guy's video with the comparison between Phantom 4, Mavic and a Parrot. The P4 and Mavic don't have those distorsions, even if the image quality of Mavic is lower. P4 from DJI has the best image quality at the moment and fits better for aerial, no distortions. Relax!

What do you mean tech, there has been mountable GoPro gimbals and drones that would carry gopros for years.
The price isn't that bad considering you get a detachable gimbal, nice backpack etc... They have replacement parts too like a normal hobby quad copter kit, so that's cool. Too bad the arms are made out of cheap plastic instead of CF though.
Such a great value! $1,000 and you get the best action camera in the world, a handheld stabilizer, a drone, a controller, and a backpack! Gopro nailed it here!

I had such an amazing experience with Gopro 3 for a few years and so excited to get Karma.
A few big problems are very weak reception wifi range which you will not be able to fly it more than 300 meters( they claim 1 kilometers which is lie), losing wifi signal have it return to its flight location and mess up all your enjoyments.
Once even when it returning back to it's lunch location got stuck at 8 meters height!! unable to land made a few minutes so scary so I was expecting wait until the battery drain off and fell on its own, eventually I was able to fix it having a few maneuver, I am expecting that happens again.
battery gets drains in 15 minutes which is much less than they claim (20 min)
technical support was almost useless, called a few time just could say SORRY .
another issue is there is no obstacle avoidance which makes fly risky, also some specific flight modes like DRONIE needs so much distance from you until works( at least 5 meter height and 5 meters length( so can not follow you closely)
The good things are a good camera(gopro 6) comes with drone and detachable stabilizer and also costs if comes in sale.

The phantom is shit and customer service is atrocious i'm sticking with my Karma. I can't wait for the GoPro VR headset to come out.
I agree on the sensors especially the follow me mode. Wasn't the original purpose of GoPro to capture yourself. My theory is they need to leave room for new generations such as GoPro karma 2 that will have these features and so on and so on, finally Karma 4 Pro with VR future technology. Maybe this as as good as the Mavic will get whilst GoPro HAS to keep on improving they have a reputation and stockholders and wall street to impress. I agree they were too careful and should have come out of the gate with sensors and follow me mode.

PW what is your point ? I'm just saying that usually GoPro products are tough (i own a few) so if they follow their policy, there is no reason why this drone would not be tough either. It's probably not waterproof though (motors are exposed)

There are many free air space areas in NYC where you can fly RC aircraft under 400 feet, you can also get a commercial drone certificate, which allows more flexibility on flight.

Reasons not to buy Go pro Karma:
1. The fish eye of the go pro looks horrible on a drone and is a pain in the ass to remove in post. The Go pro 5 has an in-built algorithm that is going to straighten the line, but its at the cost of a major loss of quality in the corners.
2. No intelligent flight modes like the P4. (obstacle avoidance, tracking, tap to fly etc.)
3.The total package is 1099$, which is now roughly the price of a ready to fly phantom 4.
4. The backpack you've shown for the phantom 4 is a big cheap mess. The real backpack (from DJI) is actually the same size of the backpack of this Karma. (But isn't cheap, I'll give you that)
5. OFC you have been paid by Go pro to do this, we all know how marketing and partnerships works.
Number 3 is a deal breaker for me. The only good thing this brings to a consumer is the competition which means lower price for us.
Use of correct filter lens gets rid of the fish eye and develops better color as well. At least on the 4 blk. it does.
Premier pro has a native tool for that, you don't even need a pluggin. But it slows down your whole timeline like CRAZY, it's very very computer intensive. The only thing you can do it apply it at the end, which means you are not certain of your field of view, your rendering time is enormous and you lose a lot of quality in the corners. I had this issue with the phantom 2 + Hero4 black.
He made a disclaimer so he most likely wasn't lying, and this is their first prototype so there will be feedback and improvements later on. It also has a gimble-whatchamacallit thing to stabilize the camera. But I will never get it because $1099 is expensive.
the simple fact that you have a detachable gimbal AND it's a freaking gopro standalone, it's a HUGE plus. P4 you can't use the camera for underwater, or w/e else you want.

Dope. Definitly a game changer. My friend has an inspire 1 that we used it to record some footage for our Slip N Slide video and i don't know what happened but the lens or something got some kind of condensation in it and the footage didn't turn out as good as it should of. It wasn't terrible and we still used some of the footage in our video.
