Katerina Kittycat Theyre being retired due to entering service in the 90’s, and they are very heavy trains and the service is looking for more efficient trains
I love seeing them go through Kingston (which I’m 99% sure is where that clip was taken). They don’t go their fastest there, but they do NOT GO SLOW THERE
@David Moore I don’t think it’s coming from the wires. I’ve seen some other train videos with diesels, and the sound also comes from there, I think from the rails
Something very interesting happened to me yesterday. So, I rode the Acela for the first time yesterday, very nice experience. And then when I think my day couldn’t get any better, I saw the engineer on the platform! So I went up to him, he was very nice. And he told me that we were going 144 mph for our top speed. He even showed me where the electric bell was located on the engine! It’s funny because I even showed HIM where the horns were on the engine! He even gave me some info on NEW Acelas coming in a few years. The engineer said that they would look nothing like they do now. That kind of made me sad, because I love the design of the Acelas now, and I think they look bold. Though he did say that the new engines would be more aerodynamic. P.S. The horn and bell were a few of my favorite parts of the train! 😀
2:17 I saw that train just today going backwards, 2020 was moving fast in Levittown, but the train was a tiny bit rusty, nice job that you caught the catches
Really excellent video of the amtrak acela express horn compilation! 0:201:403:395:125:44 these are my most favourite one because of that sound of an awesome doppler effect!!
I wonder why the Acela express and the HHP-8 seem to use a special hybrid variation of the K5LA horn rather than the regular K5LA horn that was used on the AEM7, and currently used on the ACS-64 locomotives?
It does. That screamed freight to me. No suprise when you know that the Acela uses a modified K5LA horn, with the K5LA being very popular with freight locomotives.
Disracenboi Amtrak trains are known to be pretty fast. I took one on a family trip to Chicago, and they were fast. (So basically, I’m speaking from experience).
Have to beg Amtrak to put these Hybrid K5LAs on the new Avelia Liberty trains instead of those boring Raised letters horns that the Sprinters have. Who's with me?
@@nolibtard6023 Cause we railfans like the K5LA, but it is up Amtrak's decision whether to replace horns or not. Just a single petition is not an excuse for horns!
Vish C well with enough votes there could be a light of hope, but we’ll face strong winds blowing against us since there were explicit requests from residents to make them horns more quiet
We in europe have experience with high speed trains an heavy horn is really not good on a high speed train you need Light horns on these type of trains
Unfortunately the time has come to make the best of these horns because the new Acela trains do not have this Hybrid K5LA and have a two chime air horn. I can't understand why Amtrak would put just two single chime air horns for a high speed train that would be faster than these older Acelas. Just imagine when you see them flying at full speed through stations and they blow their horn, it just won't be loud enough nor as attention grabbing as these Hybrid K5LAs. It will be such a shame not to hear these horns anymore!
@@claireleka8213 It's sure is but the bad news is the Amtrak Acela Express has been replaced by a New Amtrak Acela so I guess this could be a farewell to our old USA bullet train Amtrak Acela Express.

most of the times the driver doesn’t see the camera until up close. But it depends, they’re supposed to honk like that at most stations
