Three fun facts from a former Matteson Resident: 1- This location was originally a Showbiz Pizza- the layout of this space is pretty standard from mid-1980s Showbiz, and until they overhauled the store sometime in the 2000s, there were small touches from that 1980s era that clued you in. 2- Matteson’s city planner was actually kinda genius- CEC, at one point, shared this strip mall with Toys R Us, Kids R Us, and a Party City-like store. So any parent who needed to grab a gift or last minute party supplies was just a walk away! 3- The door you peeked through first wasn’t originally part of this Chuck E Cheese- it was a gold jewelry store, but years after it closed, CEC bought the space and tore down the wall, hence why there’s a random door there.
Breaks my heart to see Matteson devolve to such an abandoned state (especially following Lincoln Mall's closure). My family used to visit Santa every Xmas at Lincoln Mall (1976-85).....lots of fond memories from my childhood. Almost ironic that I drove through Matteson (via I-57) on my way to move out of Chicagoland permanently to the West Coast (back in Summer 2014).
It's sad, about the number of businesses that are closing in Matteson. Seems like it wasn't that long ago that it had a thriving business area east of I-57, with a lot of stores. I guess the push to build stores westward, is hurting Matteson unfortunately. And sigh from googling, I see all the area Fuddrucker's have shut down. :( And yes, even the ones in Schaumburg and(IIRC where the other one was) Lombard. There used to be another Fuddrucker's around Northbrook/Deerfield, but it closed some years back. I would often eat at Fuddrucker's myself, whenever I got down to Matteson. Sad that's gone, but hopefully Culver's is still nearby. I also have a weird feeling the JCPenney in Matteson, might close at some point. Do know it didn't make their first round of store closures in 2020, but I do wonder if it will be included on a future store closings list? It isn't too far away from other Penney's stores(i.e. New Lenox, Orland Square), that are probably doing better for that company. And when I visited this Penney's in the past, it seemed really quiet inside the Matteson location.
This store had a Circle Of Life stage. With some phase 4. And the paper on the windows. Are chuck e cheese table design that they used on the party tables. Some games are left inside. And the tables are still there. But, pretty much everything is gone. And all the poster is gone. And the stage back there is also removed. Nice video. I love chuck e cheese. I between a fan since I were 4. 😞
This was my first real job, yes i played the Chuck at this specific CEC. Matteson and corruption in all the surrounding towns pretty much destroyed everything
I grew up in Chicago Heights, and as a kid used to go to Showbiz Pizza here, and when my daughter was little I used to take her to Chuck E Cheese. This video was sad and nostalgic for me. I also remember taking my daughter to Hibachi Grill next door. I hated that place but she loved it 😂 Ahhh memories!
The location with the blinds use to be Old Country Buffet when I was younger. It closed many years ago though. I moved from Markham a town probably about 10/15 minutes away from there and my grandma use to take me and my brother to the chuck e cheese all the time. And my grandparents took us to old country buffet. So sad to see everything here like this. My grandma lived in the Heights so we were always in Matteson.
I used to work at this CEC 30 yrs ago. The place was busy all the time. I made good money there. I grew up in Matteson. Had so much fun there. Such a shame to see it become a ghost town.
My daughter had her first birthday party there. That plaza was horribly outdated. The hibachi used to be an Old Country Buffet in the 90s. Also in that plaza not mentioned were Famous Footwear, Factory Card Outlet (precursor to Party City, I believe), Christian book store, PetSmart, Lane Bryant, Subway, Game Stop and a cell phone store.
Matteson just can't catch a break. 20 years ago it had just about every retail option as Orland Park and Merrillville/Northwest Indiana. But things do change. One thing I remember is stores such as Best Buy and Target were a bit smaller than their counterparts in the places mentioned above and never really got upgrades as readily as other nearby locations.
There is a town called Shorewood that is a retail gateway for sure. I noticed all along 59 there are a bunch of stores. If your wondering Shorewood is just south of Plainfield right off of 59. Surprisingly Shorewood retail isn’t doing bad. In my opinion it isn’t the safest area. It’s apart of Troy Township which is Joliet. I heard rather shady things about Shorewood. It looks beautiful but it isn’t safe. That’s probably because of Joliet being just east of it.
I actually still remember Showbiz Pizza Place from the 80s and once saw a cool documentary film about it on Hulu. Honestly I don't think that I have ever been to a Chuck E Cheeses.
My family has had a long work history with this chuckecheese from my dad mom aunt grandma and myself and seeing it closed just sucks and really just seeing so much gone in matteson and it’s sad to see especially since I still live in the area

That's actually mind blowing who even thought of that

Matteson is literally becoming a ghost town.

R.I.P Chuck E Cheese Matteson IL
Very sad about all the Chuck E Cheese's closings. So far the ones in my area are still open. Thank you for keeping it real and keep on keeping on!
My local is Columbus Indiana, it's not closed so I'm lucky too!
Yea mines still open as well! Im in Florida
Same mines in Lynwood ca
It opened in the early 90s
I'm surprised It didn't closed after 28 yeas
"We're here preserving history." Right on, man!

For sure man gotta keep yourself protected at all times. This world is just so messed up now. Awesome on 15k plus views and very well deserved
Thank you. I was shocked on the success of the video.

This cec has no luck! a fire broke out and destroyed the 3 stage now its closed and abandoned!
@iNoobBloxxer oh I remember that video, watched it ALL the time. How sad, I remember going here
So much magic has now been lost with the closure of Matteson. Wonder where CECBabies is now.
Can u pls inform me if u have footage of the fire?
And so that’s why Helen hair was kinda took off?
3 stage didnt burn down it got sent back to corp being replaced
Fun fact: The 3 stage caught on fire and had to be replaced by the COL.
oof..
That’s the same place where a youtuber name CECbabies always filmed at this location along time ago

I do believe that window is for the restaurant place
does anyone else remember the party rock video that was filmed here?
Oml that's sad, CECbabies did Party Rock here and that was my everything. But didn't even go here, I went to the Columbus Indiana one :D
So remember I requested abandoned best buy, it's next to the old Lincoln mall and it looks like one of the old Best Buy
I wasn't able to do that. A cop was sitting right there. I wanted to do it though.
There's another abandoned Chuck E. Cheese up in Vernon Hills if you want to check it out
Went to many birthday parties there as a kid, sad to see it go.
I had a birthday at this location when I turned 3 in 2010

The one on Harlem in Tinley Park is still working.
Thats the main one I go to... the bots need some help though

I'm familiar with Shorewood. I grew up in northern Illinois.
RIP This store I visited my local chuck.e cheese and it closed
Wait! This Is Where CECbabies Filmed Chuck-E-Cheese Dancing To Party Rock In 2012!
Have two abandoned Chuck E Cheeses near me, one of which I've managed to film. Sucks that these Chuck E Cheeses are sufferring!
Bring back Duncan Brennan as chuck e and anna grey as Helen and they will be ok!
Man this place bring back so much memories!! I am so sad it closed 🙁 thank you for sharing this video!!
Thank you.

Great video man keep up the great work!
I actually still remember Showbiz Pizza Place from the 80s and once saw a cool documentary film about it on Hulu. Honestly I don't think that I have ever been to a Chuck E Cheeses.
Great find. I do have Chuck E Cheese near me and it’s not closing. I think it’s franchised by someone.
I wonder if that Hibachi Grill and Buffet is a chain. I looked and there is no website. But I've seen them elsewhere, there is one in Manassas, VA
Theres one near where I live but I think it's just an uncopyrighted name.
Omg no I hate 2020 like this was my childhood hood
I can't believe that they make that place abandoned
Cool video
This was the second to near me, the one near me is Tinley Park, I think it closed around June 2? 2020.
Nintendo Switch Rules Wii U and Stadia Sucks wait the Chuck E. Cheese in tinley park closed?
@@illinoiansuburbanfirerepon397 no, there's a video of it that was filmed literally 3 months ago
Love the video
Nice job with this video
Feels as if this whole nation is shutting down, so much is being closed down :/
Fun fact ig there was a music video of party rock there
used to be showbiz! :)
man i miss that chuck e. cheese thats where party rock was recorded :(
There were many talented dancers there
Doubt it'll happen, but I'd be very happy if they were to replace this with Dave & Buster's. Great video, btw. I used to go here when I was little.
I don't think Dave and Buster's will locate here very bad retail climate in Matteson right now
@@mallaholicretailadventures True, but Matteson just became a Home Rule community a few days ago. So, that could change.
Sad fact: there was a music video of party rock in this location
I just watched a video that was recorded in ther(Party rock) And seeing it abandoned makes me sad
Luckily my Chuck E. Cheese(Melrose park Illinois aka Winston plaza)Didn’t close
Former Showbiz
What happened to it? I heard it was a fire? I was lookin it up to go when I noticed it was closed
No there wasn't a fire or anyting. This was closed because it was in a declining retail area
This was the location where someone made a dance to party rock
Nice video!

Poor Chuck E Cheese😔
What are they going to do with that abandoned chuck e cheese
I technically grew up there
Why is Chuck E. Cheese is abandoned this year?
The company is in trouble even before covid. Theres still some open, but this one was in a bad neighborhood Any way.
Now most of it is online and toy rus
I don't see the sign of chuck e cheese but I do see that purple and the red thing on here

i called the place and someone answer my phone number and idk if someone own it or not
It’s not a bad area. They’re staring at you because you don’t belong in the area and you’re moving suspiciously. 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
I belong here thank you very much.
A. That's just mean to say .B One look at the area and you can tell its a bad area.
