I’d like to see more structures, weathering and backgrounds. Keep up the fun content.

Structures take time even when building them as molded. Paint, kit-bash, or customizing and super detailing, even longer. Build the buildings YOU want, not the ones we want fast. Looking good!

I'm not getting the impression there is any disappointment among my viewers, more realization myself that after a couple weeks' worth of work it doesn't seem to me like I got much done. I guess the comment in the video was more of a reminder for myself than anything, but I appreciate your support! Thank you!

I'll put you down for track laying, with a preference for areas that also require structures to complete the track laying like Holcomb Power Plant and Union Tank Car. Thank you!

Plastic cutting tip. If you use a straight edge and a new or sharp single edge razor blade you can score it then snap it off. Plastic and styrene will break along the score line cleanly with minimal filing and sanding. You can save a bunch of time and your fingers by scoring the placid kits and snap them apart. It save your fingers

I agree...this method works very well with plain, flat styrene sheets. However, if you've never seen one of these Pikestuff structure kits, they are typically molded in a corrugated metal finish on the outer edge. To avoid the white cut stress lines on the display side of the pieces, you have to cut on the outer side. Since I am trying to cut out door openings, I can't really score, then snap off the pieces either, which means you have to cut clean through the two sides first, then you can score and snap off the top edge. Either way, I'm seeing this as an overall win because I've been wanting that table saw for some time now anyway. I'm still going to have to cut through the corners to finish off what the table saw can't do, but it will be a huge help. Plus I can used the table saw for all sorts of quicker, easier scratchbuilding. Next I will be formulating an excuse for the much more expensive scroll or band saw so I can finish those corners with ease! Although a Dremel might work too I suppose, with the right attachment.

Do you have a pair of those corner square nippers? They work great for neatening up the openings for doors and windows.

@@williamshanaman5098 I do not, but I have heard of them. They are on my list of future acquisitions for sure.

Is there an aspect or location of the Kansas & Western Model Railroad that you would like to see me focus my attention on for the next update video? If so, then leave your request in the comments below! Below is a list of locations and aspects of the layout to refresh your memory, listed in order following the main line from the bottom up, starting from the west helix:
    Royal Gorge Route
    Canon City
    Portland Cement Plant
    Pueblo
    La Junta Yard
    Lamar
    Holly
    Holcomb Power Plant
    Garden City
    Charleston Elevator
    Wichita Industrial Park
    Wichita Yard
    Towanda
    El Dorado Industrial Park
    El Dorado Refinery
    Union Tank Car Company
Aspects of the layout that aren’t location specific that I can focus on:
    Track weathering and ballast
Wiring (so I can run trains on newly laid track)
    Rolling stock weathering
    Structures
    Backdrops
Scenery (the Royal Gorge Route…the main line between Canon City and the west helix…is the only location that is close to ready for scenery work. I will still have to lay the siding and install some backdrops, before I can start scenery work but that won’t take much time or effort)
    Layout skirting
    Fascia/valance
The polls for this weekend will close at midnight Central U.S. time on Sunday, May 12th. Votes will be tabulated Monday and a short video update will be posted Monday afternoon regarding the vote result and my plan to carry it out. Power to the viewers!! I look forward to hearing from you!

I appreciate your interest and participation, but the vote deadline is typically midnight, US Central time, the Sunday after I post the latest construction update (last Sunday). Fortunately for you, track work won the poll by a landslide. You can view the poll results at the following link: ua-cam.com/video/bG6IeKurrNo/v-deo.html
Check in again next Friday to see what I was able to complete!

Wichita Industrial Park and Canon City are good to go for track-laying so if track-laying wins the vote, I will probably focus on those two areas. Your vote has been recorded. Thank you!

My vote is get more rolling stock and engines and fished up laying the track

    • @KandWRailroader
      @KandWRailroader  4 місяці тому

At this point, rolling stock acquisitions are going to be secondary to layout construction in terms of funding, but don't worry, I'll be adding more inventory every now and then. I'm hoping to add a yard switcher for La Junta yard or the UP yard in Wichita, or a dedicated plant switcher for the Portland Cement plant (maybe a lease unit), depending on what I find on a shopping trip to Spring Creek Model Trains next month. I will however, add your vote for track laying to the record! Thank you!

go for making more section finish, because you have to much at the same time,

    • @KandWRailroader
      @KandWRailroader  4 місяці тому

That's a tough one because I'm a long way from finishing any section. Is there an area that you would like to see pushed closer to the finish line at least? If I was forced to decide, I would say La Junta Yard is probably the closest to being finished because the track is laid and wired, primary structures are in place and very little scenery work will be required. I really just need to add details to the engine service facility, finish the highway bridge and transload dock, add a few minor details to the carshop, paint, weather and ballast the track, add some ground covering to the open areas and add a final backdrop, fascia and valance and it will be done! I'll mark you down for La Junta Yard work! Thank you for bringing up this point about finishing a section though...it forced me to really think about what it would take to finish an area of the layout!
