The average white band reaction of School boy crush. These guys from Scotland are one of the funkiest bands ever!

Prior to this song, nobody on the face of the earth ever thought, 'hmmm, sleigh bells are funky', and then this song dropped. That bass line, holy shit, those two guitar tracks panned left and right, man. There's so much room to breath in this track. It's fonky like an open hamper, fonky like a dirty pamper. One of their best tracks imho.
Coming in with sleigh bells and whistling through the outro. Nothing but funk in between.
I love watching Hamish in his kilt! ❤
I have loved "School Boy Crush" since it was released in 1975. This sleigh bells took me out the first time I heard it. If this song doesn't make you move, you need to check your pulse. 😝
That is one of the funkiest basslines ever recorded
I'm 64 now, I grew up on the Funk via Soul Train in the states Harri, I had all these albums on vinyl! But Steely Dan and Stevie Wonder are my two favorites for 50 year,s now!! Good reaction
Another fantastic song Greybeard! I love The Average White Band. ☮️
Always great to hear AWB (and your reactions). For another treat, check out Alan Gorrie (one of AWB's founding members) with Daryl Hall on Live From Daryl's House doing "Pick Up the Pieces". Eliot Lewis, one of Daryl's band members, was also with AWB at one time.
Sooooo funky! I just got up an did a strut around the room...lol Can't help myself. You'll want to hear Pick up the pieces and Cut the cake.
I feel that!
Great Song Choice GMM. Hamish Stuart and Robbie McIntosh both played with Paul McCartney. Harri is a Funk Machine. 👍😉🔥
Could it be guitarist Onnie McIntyre you're referring to? Robbie died in '74 from an accidental heroin overdose at a party in LA. Cher was able to keep Alan Gorrie alive, he and Robbie had thought it was coke, but despite her efforts, Robbie didn't make it.
AWB was far from average! They sound like they came right out of the Stax or Motown catalogue. They have many great videos. Excellent reaction, Harri, you funky devil you.!
Love your channel.
My wife and I got to see AWB a few years ago here in Northern California. They were the warm up band for Tower of Power.
What a funky night it was!!
Two of the bands I listened to back in my high school days in the 70’s!
Ram
I am so blessed to have seen AWB perform this live in 1975 in Sacramento California. The house was a funkin! As a white, it was the first time I experienced a racially mixed concert. Music bridged the gap. It was wonderful, from a bunch of white and ginger Scotts.
I love your reaction!!❤❤
This brings back a great memory of seeing AWB in a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania club. It was a fantastic time, and the seats weren't even necessary! The band seemed like they were having so much fun.
Try a Love of Your Own in Concert with Alan Goree singing lead vocals in the House of Blues
Pick Up The Pieces is my favorite!
They've got a live album which is killer. I'm the One is an absolute must if you like them...which you do!
The first sample I think of especially the sleigh bell intro is Microphone Fiend by Eric B & Rakim
I hear you! I've been digging funk since 70's and this song has been on my record player. I've sometimes listened to it, played it, but it always comes up. It's one of the funk pieces that you never get bored of - there must be some scientific explanation or is it just me?
Sippin my coffee this morning and listened to this. Now I got coffee all over me. This is about as funky as it gets. Hamish Stuart is a baaaaaad bass player. Once again Greybeard, you knock it out of the park but you owe me a shirt now. 😉Great reaction Harri. Groovin man. 😉😉👍👍✌✌
Yes sir get you a nice tye dye tank top or maybe a Dickie...lol
Hey, these guys aren't average. Played the heck outta this album. Sounds best with headphones doesn't it? Yeah. Peace
Amazzzzing! Loved them!
Although I have heard other songs from AWB, I had not heard this incredibly funky tune! Great choice Greybeard! Great reaction Harri! 🌺✌️
AWB getting it!!! Love this 🤩
AWB are truly world class, amazing how good their music still sounds today. And you are right, their vocals are as great as their instrumentals. Check out the incredible If I Ever Lose This Heaven, Got the Love, Soul Searching, and their fantastic cover of the Isley's Work to Do. Absolutely world class!
Great jam!
As far as my favorite bands back in the day (especially live in conceet) of all time were "Earth Wind & Fire (my first concert-HS freshman year) AND "The Average White Band." They don't make them like that anymore. Both bands saw in my teens then like 18-20 years later saw them again..just as good the second time around! Talented vocalists AND true musicians at the same time. Production..arrangement of the instruments so tight. Hard to beat!
Have you heard AWB: "A Love of Your Own" yet? Try it for another side of them..real chill vibe..and the sax and horns are amazing ..but the bass and guitar..and drums are blended in nicely as well.(Video live version).
This is some funky-ass S**T! My daughter confiscated this LP from my collection when she went away to college. I think you're talking about "Pick Up The Pieces."
FUNK 1000% ❗️❗️❗️
I JUST CAN'T GIVE YOU UP, JUST WANNA LOVE YOU TONIGHT.
Speaking of Scotland, see if you can find some “Red Hot Chilli Pipers”, one time driving around Scotland with my old man, I picked up one of their CDs in a gas station, it was great bagpipe stuff.
The Jam!
great band! try a live version of Pick up the Pieces.
The sleigh bells give it a Native American vibe. Btw, love that monochromatic red thing you got going on. Stay funky.
The AWB song with the funkiest horns is Pick Up the Pieces.
Harri hope im no bother with suggestions but their main jam you have to listen to is called "" Queen of My Soul"" its excellent. Thanks for the video.
I know AWB but I never heard this song before, love it, love the funk! My shipmate in Builder A school in Port Hueneme back in 1979 introduced me to Parliament, I don’t know if you’ve reacted to them or not, the mothership, and I loved it, the black hole, funkadelic, p-funk! lol, remember it like yesterday blasting my boombox in the barracks on cleaning day and we would be getting down with the mops and buffers singing, “awww we got the funk, gotta have some funk!”. :D
Heard this beat a long time ago sampled by too short. Very glad to hear the original
I love it. ERIC B and RAKIMs Microphone Fiend!! - Where it all came from!!
Playing in Birmingham in April
Check out their studio version songs of Work to Do(Isley Brothers remake), Let’s Go Around Again, A Love of Your Own, and their live Person to Person album has two amazing live songs, Cut the Cake and Cloudy(Hamish, pronounced hey-mish, hits those high notes!) Those songs are better than their studio versions, way better!
In addition to an 'AWB' episode on Live From Daryl's House, Alan Gorrie (bass player from AWB) also played bass on the LFDH episode with Eli 'Paperboy' Reed. If you want some nasty, funky. get down, gritty soul... check out their version of 'Uncanny'. It's...well, you know...uncanny!! ua-cam.com/video/DAJM0kE9rbA/v-deo.html 😊
Very good album, the white album is a classic too.
This is the music my generation danced to😎
I was left to pick up the pieces after cutting the cake for a schoolboy crush which totally funked up my life.
If you haven't done the title song from this album yet, you really ought to, Harri. 'Cut the Cake'! I'd love a piece, thank you.
The version from their Person to Person live album is the best version of Cut the Cake I’ve heard. It’s way funkier than the studio version!
@@WilliamTheMovieFan gotta hear it then! Thanks for the tip.
@@damonhines8187 the whole Person to Person album is a great live album. I love the live version of their song, Cloudy. Their studio version sounds terrible by comparison!
Check out ATLANTIC STARR SEND FOR ME
Hamish Stuart wrote one of their top hit ,"If your Heart isn't in it "
AWB some of the best in Blue Eyed Soul.
The best! And Hamish Stewart is cream-of-the-crop when it comes to blue-eyed soul vocalist..
Pick up the pieces is the song you liked
Old school. Not bad, ay?
Not so fun fact. Robbie McIntosh of AWB overdosed along with fellow member Alan gorie at a Hollywood party. Robbie died but Alan was saved by fellow party goer Cher...
I heard that was a rumor and Robbie is still alive and well at 64 yrs old.
I read this comment and the reply and got curious, so I looked it up. Apparently there were two guys with the same name. The one who was a member of AWB did indeed die of an accidental heroin overdose in 1974. The other one, also a musician, is indeed alive and well.
Thanks for clearing that up.
