Atomic Shrimp yeah, my wife and I have switched to almond milk, vegetarian margarine, and she can’t eat dairy, so she’ll buy alternative products. Also, weve been eating these vegetarian chicken burgers. But I can’t lie, I love cheese lol especially on a hamburger
vase meat, especially processed meat like sausage is not good for anyone’s health. Meat is unnecessary as an every day ingredient, other protein sources are fine. Reducing ones meat intake is good for the environment too. There’s three _really_ good reasons.
@vase I've just been eating more meat in my diet than is probably healthy for me, and I have not been caring enough about what happens behind the scenes (both in terms of animal welfare and environment impact) to produce that meat for me. Meat is actually a very good source of nutrition for humans; whilst it is possible to get by without it (and many people do), it requires greater care and design of diet to do it properly. I don't see a zero-meat future for myself, but I know I need to dial it back.
Loved this video :) I'm vegan and you definitely hit the nail on the head - I like the taste of meat but just don't feel personally comfortable eating animals! When I was poor and living in Portswood, I used to get vegetarian sausages and beans from Asda all the time. I think they were spinach based. I really liked them.
I wish they sold these in the US so I could try them. I follow a veggie diet so something like this is an added treat once in a while. I travel a lot so I will keep an eye out for this when out of the US.
The stuff in tins with beans is that processed anyway even when it is meat I can see a vegan alternative working. Just think about the bum holes, hooves, beaks and snouts in the hunger breaks.
Tried the sausage one a while ago and enjoyed them a lot, particularly the sauce in which I could really taste the spices :) A little out of my usual budget so what I normally do instead is just get cheap beans (typically the low-sugar ones from Tesco which are a little bland on their own) and mix in a chopped Quorn sausage, but still occasionally get these as a treat :)
When it comes to this level of 'meat' (stuff in a tin with beans), I'd much rather eat something vegan. Really cheap tinned meat products are very poor so there's really no point choosing them because you think they are superior. They are most asuredly not.
I could even imagine that the vegan variety survives the canning process better. Can't be worse than the tasteless mushy things in the Hunger Breaks tins.
@@IncoherentSchizo This is a fair point. Price must be considered. I will take a $20 vegetarian pizza over a $5 pepperoni pizza but that's because quality matters more to me
Every sausage I’ve eaten in England has obviously had plenty of food in it of vegetable origin. Some of them were like eating an American hot dog in a bun, only the bun was included in the sausage itself, inside the casing. In the USA, almost all sausages are made almost entirely from animals. Lots of fat and organ meats in the cheap ones, and only recently has TVP (processed soy flour) become fairly common in the cheap or “health” varieties...
Yeah, at the low end of the scale, sausages in the UK are really more a kind of bread. I find it amusing that people have argued for protection of the definition of 'sausage' as 'something that must contain meat' when the legal standard here only imposes a minimum of 32% We do have very good sausages here too, I should say. Perhaps I need to make a video about that.
One additional reason for choosing meat replacements - although not necessarily valid for convenience food - is that one can still use similar recipes. One can replace the meat in bolognese and keep everything else the same, enjoying a very similar dish, rather than having to go for an original vegetarian/vegan dish. Also if people insist on eating meat, this makes it much easier to cook for groups, as one can simply change the one part of the meal which is incompatible without going through the hassle of two entirely different cooking processes.
Good point about foods with bits of meat in it. Oftentimes heavily processed products just contain fat and gristle, the low-quality meat which isn't that great for you. Mostly notice it in TV Dinners.
My favourite was the Chinese braised eels from episode 1 or 2, but I think I may have to stop buying that. I learned the other day that juvenile eels here in the UK are being captured in vast numbers and illegally exported to China to satisfy the market there
Atomic Shrimp that’s sad to hear, but if it’s for the better then it makes sense not to buy it anymore. Thanks for answering my question, hope you have a good day!
Thank you for addressing the reason why some vegans and vegetarians want meat-like products. I love meat, and was a hunter for years before becoming a ethics based vegetarian(no eggs, no dairy, but honey from those who keep their bees well feels okay to me). Now that I no longer consume meat due to the treatment of Animals and it's effect on our ecosystem, I am tripping over myself to find products that replicate the tastes and textures I miss. I am going to be honest, I have found none that are the same, but ah, I can dream. Good vid as always sir.
interesting timing, I just had my first ever vegan burger yesterday. the one burger king calls rebel whopper. not that anyone cares but two thumbs up from me, I rate it 95% as good as the real thing. curious how the baked bean burger compares.
What country do you live in? In America the Burger Kings have the "Impossible Whopper", but I'm not sure if there is a Rebel Whopper here, or at least in my area.
@@kwirro Austria. UK has the same Rebel Whopper. The US version, made by Impossible Foods, can’t be sold in Europe, as it contains genetically modified ingredients that the EU requires to be tested before it is allowed to go on sale.
Do you know what the sodium content is? Sounds interesting. The 'real' meat in products like these is usually very low quality and terrible to begin with.
Also having vegan options are decent alternatives for people looking to cut back on meat products for environmental reasons, or to add variety for people who are doing things like religious fasts. Good video, I always look forward to weird stuff in cans.
I like the Suma beans and sausage a lot - reminds me of tinned beans and sausage from when I was a kid (1970s). Suspect the two have similar meat levels.
I'm no vegan, but I love vegan chicken patties. They beat the cheap real ones any day because they taste identical, but have none of the gristle that puts me off of chicken

Sometimes it's just economics too. When I was a young working adult, trying to get some college classes in, I often ate vegetarian chili with TVP (textured vegetable protein) in it instead of the kind with meat because it was cheaper.
Suma stuff is generally pretty good quality. As a 30 year herbivore that brand has seen me through many a time when I couldn’t be arsed to cook. Thank you for covering plant based eating with an open mind. I’m told by my carnivorous friends that much of our stuff is getting pretty damn close to the non vegan originals. My colleague buys vegan Hellman’s because he prefers the taste. Even some of the 'cheese' is now palatable, especially Daiya and Violife.

This was a very useful one! Would love to see more vegan meat canned foods reviewed.
Great special as always my friend 👍 Love the squirrel while chewing!
See if you can track down this product anywhere: www.yamibuy.com/en/p/dao-hua-cun-vegetarian-diet-the-steak-hot-560g/1019013801
interesting timing, I just had my first ever vegan burger yesterday. the one burger king calls rebel whopper. not that anyone cares but two thumbs up from me, I rate it 95% as good as the real thing. curious how the baked bean burger compares.
I tried the McDonalds version, it was fine, I could barely tell the difference.
I had that and i thought it was disgusting, they even cooked the vegan burger on the same griddle as the normal burger.
@@possession2 Uhhh is cooking on the same griddle a problem?
Thanks for trying vegan products again! Unfortunately we don't have those in Germany (but other good vegan food). Your new can opener looks great!
I think it would be interesting to see you do side-by-side comparisons of vegan and meat versions of a dish for a two can special. 😃
I'm right now eating baked beans for the first time in my life, while watching this.
Very goooood 😍
I love the monologued shutdown as an introduction!
I haven't tried the burger one, but I loved the sausage and beans one. Lovely on toast!!
Do you know what the sodium content is? Sounds interesting. The 'real' meat in products like these is usually very low quality and terrible to begin with.
I have it with jacket potato. Its beautiful. Need it try the burger one.
Also having vegan options are decent alternatives for people looking to cut back on meat products for environmental reasons, or to add variety for people who are doing things like religious fasts.
Good video, I always look forward to weird stuff in cans.
0:47 also these products can be good for vegans starting out and help them into a more vegan diet
Your opinion is totally valid, also I agree. Although I would rather have just beans.
I love that vintage feel of the cans!
Love your vids. Could never hate you for your opinions. That's why we watch!
🙏✌🐜💚
i suffer with chrons disease i cant eat meat no more, i really like these on a cold evening. thanks my friend, all the best from cornwall as always
As a vegetarian i love hearing your opinions on meat free options. Good job man! Love ya content!
Majestic herds of burgers. Such a funny mental image! 😂 😂 😂
I like the Suma beans and sausage a lot - reminds me of tinned beans and sausage from when I was a kid (1970s). Suspect the two have similar meat levels.
I love stuff like this Mr Shrimp, keep it up!
Great video as a vegan great to see but yes a little bit expensive I agree they need to but the price down,
Another great Can video. Extra like for the TwoCan
For me it's always a review of a can opener.
It's a bit of a shame that the toucan opener is not as effective as my trusty Brabantia
I'm no vegan, but I love vegan chicken patties. They beat the cheap real ones any day because they taste identical, but have none of the gristle that puts me off of chicken
You've never seen a thundering herd of burgers? We have them here in the states. Seeing them is a very Mooving experience..
this channel is what ive been looking for .when im in the mood to see foraging vids u post foraging vids .when im in the mood for food stuff bam u post food stuff .but in my oppinion scambaiting series is the best .keep up the good work
Ooh, been a while since last Weird Stuff In A Can! Apparently that two can pun will never get old for me, I am very amused by it for some reason
In wales there is a food called a glamorgan sausage which is mainly cheese so there seems to have been veggie food called sausages for a while
Thanks - I might give these a try when out camping.
Very well articulated in the beginning.
I would love for this to become more commonplace
I went from watching only your scammer videos to watching all your videos..! They’re all so nice and relaxing, and the scammer ones are very funny! Thanks for making my self quarantine one to enjoy :))
