version snapped up from their John Peel session, ca. 1992, of the mesmerizing flip/b-side of the "Realize" single. The world has forgotten, the world moved along...
In my youth I was into British indie bands like stone roses. The happy Mondays. The charlatans amongst others. I'm 40 now and have just found Codeine, and I fucking love them wish I heard there stuff when I was a kid but just so happy to hear beautiful music like theirs today. Music u listen to mirrors your life
"lullaby for the working class" did a cover version of this that's absolutely fantastic. not sure if it was ever released or if they just played a Peel session. the only copy I have is on cassette tape so I can't post it but if anyone can, please do because it's the best cover I've heard
Takes me back to the spring of 1994 when I was deeply pining for a girl whose boyfriend was dumping her but she ultimately rejected me just a few weeks later.
wow... thanks for sharing this. i head it for the first time in retsin's "sweet luck of amaryllis" about ten years ago and have been looking for the original version since then.
God, you really made me mad: I knew very well that my cover stank, or at least was smelly pretty bad. This song helped a lot when, ages ago, (1994!) I got off heroin...and I KNOW it is impossible to make a good version of this song -at least impossible for me- but I had to try. my newer version is totally execrable. Thanks for owning up.
some guy told me my cover of this song was the WORSE COVER he ever heard, so i scrapped it and re-did it a little faster and a lot more unpleasant to hear. This is creative trollism. I love the original, though...
..."pawn his guitar.." god i lost a 70's Guild Bass, and a 60's Framus Bass to pawn shops (in between other stuff) to get from the last shot to the next... Heroin is only beatable when you realze that you are telling yourself "everything's gonna be fine . i'll be ok, i'm gonna quit" when you are high and "goddam "£$%^& i've gotta score i've gotta score" when you're not high anymore....Sorry about your friend. It's been 20 years (close) and i still dream of heroin...It's so fuct!!!
this song is the only thing i want
This is so sad, and beautiful at the same time.
Perfect
Thanks a lot for putting this up, such a lovely and sad song. This was played on a local indie radio station all the time early 90s.
This song is the best in the john peel session alongside with pond's cinders and you pretty thing and velocity girl's crazy town

Pierre Clary stay vigilant.
ID on jacket John is wearing??
Carhartt or some facsimile (the cuffs are a dead giveaway), but still not as interesting a choice as Doug's cap.
