If their goal was to collude, why would they do it in the most ridiculous, attention-drawing way possible? Clearly what happened was that MLG and Riot were embarrassed and had to reassert their authority.
@Offer Your Soul To Me Dark One According to gbay99's documentary, and Scarra's commentary...this tourney sucked (warm-ups had to be played on dominion, and the rules said that nobody could go pee during the tourney), sooo before this match, both teams were like "it'd be funny if we played an aram, yeah let's do that!"
you need to understand what match fixing means, it means that one team will agree to lose for a share of the winnings, neither team agreed to lose, both teams were trying to win, the match wasnt fixed, whether dignitas or curse won they both still got the same amount of money. it isnt match fixing.
Suiciding to go back and buy isn't against the ARAM rules on the NA server. I think it is on the Euro server tho, hence why the brit caster keeps saying they're cheating by doing that. But it's allowed on NA. He just doesn't know that. :P
It's hilarious watching the commentator's initial reactions to things like this. I remember watching a video of a tournament where someone last picked Karma. The commentator went dumbfounded for a while.
its not the same really, there are no rules defining how you have to play LoL, you can literally do anything you want, just because the teams decided they want to both run ARAM doesnt mean it isnt a legitimate way to play the game
What is this talk about ARAM rules? Is it from before there was a dedicated ARAM mode, and the rules are just unofficial? Or is it an unwritten rule even in actual ARAM that you can not do that?
so bacially this game was from the finals 2012, where team dig vs curse for i think 100k grand prize. but the 2 teams sneaked a deal to split the money 50-50 and just troll in the finals, by playing the game with aram rules, sorry my english is pretty bad, i dont know if i read ur question perfectly, at the end, i think riot found out and no one won the money
Ok to clarify the comment section in this. People are under the assumption the disqualification ruling was made because of the prize split. The actual reason was an agreement for curse to throw the game so digital could manipulate brackets to avoid playing a specific team as their 1st opponent in the next tournament. Thus the teams were disqualified for breaking competition rules for colluding to manipulate standings. If the teams had only agreed to do ARAM and split the pot while actually playing competitively they most likely would not of been DQ'd.
I mean the point of the tournament is for one team to come out on top, they should get the reward, not both teams (don’t flame me on this, it’s just my view on tournys). Tbh they shouldn’t have gotten DQ’d cuz this was probably really good for publicity and entertainment. I know I enjoyed it lol
there's no actual rules saying how the players have to play in game yes meta is what all the teams play but there is no rules saying that they have to play that style m8
Well first of all the streamers aren't paying anything to see it and second of all i'm sure that more than half the audience had their day made when they saw this happen. Most glorious thing i've ever seen happen in professional LoL.
So AZF got caught cheating in a 2 million dollar tournament and just lost 30% of their winnings in that tournament, but when curse and dignitas have fun and make the game interesting, they are disqualified?
I read somewhere that they(both teams) planned this prior to the match and also decided they would split the winnings. IMO I understand the disqualification now. The bad part about it IMO now, is that MLG kept the winnings instead of giving it to the 3rd/4th place people. This would be like going to a football game and both teams agreeing prior to the game to only throw hail marry's, or to only run the ball..... =(
Simply put, if MLG looks at it that way, they are wrong. The analogy is COMPLETELY wrong. More accurately, it is like 2 super bowl teams independently deciding (most likely through communication) that they each want to ONLY GO FOR field goals. They both agree within themselves in a completely unbinding manner that they are not going to attempt any touchdowns or touchbacks etc...
Little context for those who don't know - this match was one of the most infamous moments in competitive League of Legends. Both teams had actually met with each other before hand and agreed to split the prize money regardless of who won.
"Match-fixing generally refers to fixing the final result of the game. Occurring as a match is played to a completely or partially pre-determined result, violating the rules of the game and often the law." theres you research and as far as i understand the match was not predetermined there for the game not fixed. recommendation do your own research next time
ive seen this comparison before, and its completely wrong. if two football teams said only field goals count, it wouldnt be football anymore. ARAM is still league, its just a different way to play league, thats what is different between league and other sports, there are no rules to how you have to play. thus you cant compare this to other sports
too many people comparing this to other sports. you can't compare league to other sports, other sports have defined rules on how you have to play them, and if you dont follow those rules, you basically arent playing the sport. League doesnt have that, there are no rules on how you have to play league. there is a meta, but a meta isnt a rulebook.
Another incorrect analogy... I would be happy to explain why if asked however I will give a similar, correct analogy. It would be like two teams agreeing that they wanted to play touch football and that in order to overcome the differences they chose to fall over the moment they were touched if they were carrying the football. Is that unprofessional? Maybe... Is it within their rights and following the rules? Completely.
Let the players have fun. i can see that they done want to play the same gametype over and over and over... I say let the game ride. fuck what MLG says.
wut. Agreeing to split the winnings isn't match fixing. It's called good sportmanship & happens in a lot of pro sports. Both teams have called bs on the "match fixing" accusation. They apologized for the ARAM cuz MLG forced them to. If you watch the SV interview, he stated they saw each other while out to eat & said "wouldn't it be cool to see an ARAM in the finals?" & did one. They both played hard in all rounds. They agreed to split winnings as a GG/Good sportsman jesture. =/= match fixing.
DemonTopHat Eight months late, but no. Both teams were upset regarding prize money (which used to be a bigger issue than today in esports). And basically they decided to troll the tournament grand final. Penalties and tons of apologies from Curse and Dignitas officials poured on social media.
i bet 90% of the people would rather watch a shootout for the cup than a boring ass soccer game. what you people dont realise is that all they did was change how they played the game, its not like the audience payed for league and then the pros started playing dota. Its still the same game, its just a different way to play it.
and thisis why we should starve mlg and riot of money because they dont believe in fun games and good sportsmanship and just disqualify any team who attempts either.
Honestly, if the fans liked it, they shouldn't of DQed them but they should of definitly explained never to do that again. Also this is the reason why I started playing LOL cuz I heard of this PRO troll game
You must have never played ARAM, and you must tryhard every game you play to say that. Viewers and players had fun. You can't go to people and say "have fun doing that" fun is inherently subjective. But seems like everyone had fun during that.
please, do some research before posting to save yourself the embarrassment of looking like an idiot. its match fixing. yeah, they chose to fix the match BECAUSE of good sportsmanship. they're still committing the crime OF match fixing.
I'm 35 you fuck tard. You're the ignorant one cuz nothing you said makes sense. "throwing the match in exchange for a bribe"? Wtf? hahaha how does that even remotely define what they did? You're an idiot. Get off my video and go read a book or go back to school kid.
It was taking out the whole spirit of the tournament. That was not what the people payd for to see and not what the Sponsors wanted. It is as simple as that.

Rito enforcing the meta like NOPE YOU CANT PLAY ARAMS and disqualifies everybody. GG report riot.
Actually the call was made by MLG, this was before the LCS in which team's acquired circuit points similar to OGN
They disqualified everybody because both of the teams we're planning on splitting the prize
it's not like they decided to throw the match though
It's collusion, which is illegal.
Saddest thing is, have anyone look at player faces? have u ever seen pro players have so much fun in official match?

kinda rediculous that they got disqualified for this. It's still LoL, is there MLG specific rules? I'd like to see them.

Eh, there are no set EU rules for aram, are there?
I certainly suicide to buy on the EU serv.
They didn't get disqualified for ARAMing, they got DQ'd for agreeing to share the prize money.
blue side got free gold from their minions destroying both side lane towers pretty early on...
Wouldnt GP10 items in an aram (which is typically a shorter game) be dumb? They don't pay for themselves till 15 mins in (if you sell them back).
the real question here is did he ever eat his hat!?!?!?!?!

on the new aram you can do whatever. these were the old rules.

old but gold.
if you watched BOTH crs video's they said all the accusations are false, MLG is probably saying this to cover up their actual reason
They also decided to split the money so MLG dq'd them.
