- Stormy Mundy Selection (Occasional Series - Acts of Random Archive Rummaging)
This video is an edited extract from the latest Stormy Mundy Selection, as featured on dgmlive.com www.dgmlive.com/tour-dates/2606
The recording sessions for Larks’ Tongues In Aspic capture some of the flexibility that the new line-up enjoyed during their rehearsing and subsequent tour of the previous year. At the front of the track, Jamie Muir’s atmospheric rubbing glass rods with oily cloths and what sounds like an overdubbed zither exemplifies the creative approach to developing the feeling of the piece and it’s interesting to note that Fripp has a very clear idea about how much of it should be used in the final mix.
David Cross is playing flute though he was uncredited on the sleeve of the album and while not all of the flute heard in this take, or indeed the viola in the introduction, made it into the final mix it confirms again the exploratory aspects of the process at that time. John Wetton’s piano during the middle section was similarly left uncredited on the finished album. However, it’s lovely to be able to hear in greater detail the richness in tone and mood that it adds to the finished track. Finally, Fripp’s acoustic guitar, bright and crisp in sound, with decorative twinkling harmonics, is nevertheless steeped in melancholia that reflects the song’s subject matter, his delicate picking knitting the whole piece together.

I've also been a King Crimson fan from the very beginning and will remain so until my last hour strikes. RIP John Wetton 🙏
I bought LTiA the day it came out. I went home and wore that record down to nothing. In my own life I was waiting to be sent into exile. Now it is soon to be 50 years since that day. As to me I did go into exile and I am still living that way. I love this song and Book of Saturday too.
I appreciate this stripped down version of Exiles. The sound on the Larks' album is heavy and easy to get lost in, yet this feels so breezy, light and thoughtful. Exiles has always been my favorite on the album because it has lots of little flourishes one would have to pay attention to, and here it's the focus.
Perfectly put
This is a scam! I ordered this bag and never received it 😮
Been listening to them for 52 years... and counting.
I'm 53. I had to explain to my son that the double album set, "A young person's guide to King Crimson" was made for me.
54...but who’s counting. 😂
I'm 65 and King Crimson was my youth.

Hello from north wales, I’m 65 now and explained to my 2 sons about
The Young persons guide, I don’t know if it had any effect but
They both went on to play bass guitar, in two separate bands
20 years later, and now in their early thirties, they still play
occasionally live.
Prog rock, and english heavy rock.
Take care, our numbers are dwindling,
We need our sons and daughters,
To run with the torch!
I‘m 20. So well… I will count with you.
This song always moves me for no reason. Just beautiful so far. The harmony of the acoustics and bass, violin, plute is just perfect!!!😢
Love the plate ( just kidding my fat fingers makes it a project to type a response to anything ) that’s why I use icons!
See couldn’t even type plute
😇
Zgadzam się .King Crimson to jedna z lepszych grup w historii muzyki rockowej . Nowatorstwo , eklektyzm i doskonałe wykonanie wyróżniało ją spośród innych zespołów przełomu lat 60/70. KC to w zasadzie jeden człowiek . Genialny gitarzysta Robert Fripp.
Wetton - piano, Cross - flute, and Fripp - acoustic...🤔 that would make a delightful "Trio" 😉...especially Wetton on piano - the contributions of John here are a real revelation...
The best band:
This is one of my favourite KC songs and it is fascinating to be able to look under the bonnet and see the different parts working. Thanks for posting.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written and performed!!!!!!
The shivers. I will say no more.
Amazing. Thank you King Crimson to make my life a great life with your music
Hen hao..
Wo ai King Crimson..
❤️❤️❤️
💪💪💪
Absolutely,
King Crimson is King.
Really beautiful ! Thank you King Crimson !!! ❤️
Now this is what i call rock n' roll. Incredible. I didn't get into (come across) this album til i was 19, which was 1979, but once i did.. This song is in fact number 4, that's right, FOUR, on my Top 1000 Songs of All Time. How beautiful.
Beautiful Mr. Robert.
Fripp’s acoustic chording is just amazing!!
Fripp forever !
wow best exile version
Bought instantly without even waiting the end of the video. One of the greatest songs!
Fascinating. Shows up how much depth Crim could muster from a modest ensemble. Wetton piano, Cross flute, Robert acoustic!
Great piece of music! 💥👻🤘🏼
Superb.
Yes, wonderful and beautiful.
waiting for this one to drop made my palms wet with expectancy!
Beauty and intense thanks💕
Los amo gracias por vuestro arte
Mystery and magic melody. Thank you, KC🙏😑
This is really good. I could listen to them for hours.
When I saw KC for the first time in Mexico City (july 2017), the greatest surprise of the night was when they played 'Exiles'. I think that the 2014-2022 line up only played it two or three times.
among the greatest of every time in classical music.
OMG, I love so much this song... And this brings something new to it. Thank you.
Crimson best prog band ever & one the greatest musical forces ever!
Nice version - beautiful actually - thanks
Crimson forever
RIP. John Greg and Boz
Magnificent, as always.
Simplicitas est clavis ad splendorem: Simplicity is the key to brilliance.. First encounter Live KC Greyhound pub Croydon 1971...Last Cardiff Oct 2018....But beyond these 52 years of unmitigated enjoyment. But who to leave all the damn media too....?

I didn't buy my copy of Larks until 1985 but I could have sworn that issue of the album credited flute to David. Maybe my mind added that fact after various read interviews, etc. The piano really stands out in this mix and I always thought that it was Robert or David...
Dear Robert, I realy very love and appreciate every your and your band's work. I understand why you don't allow violation of copywriting rules and I agree with that. That's the right dessision and absolutely fare. But still I hope one day to hear here studio session reels of Talking Drum ( I saw this video on some Youtbe channel. There was a wonderful record, perfect rythm. Now it has been deleted). Sorry for bad English. Best regards. Your Dedicated-fan
Absolutely mind baffling ! I didn't know this version before today ...
No one makes music and art like Crimso
Lo mejor que he escuchado hoy, 👍😎
I love that
Sweet.
Thanks.
It's make me feel like i am in exile. So far away the same faces i see are not same anymore but strange. Feel lonely, still something grow up inside, a little hope. Even it is a grey, it does not matter. That's enough to dream my truly home how it looks like. Even though i know this dream end up with an infinite darkness, a bible black and become my last nightmare, keep going to refuse to wake up.
Think you all for this experience
This is great! Hopefully a future selection could be a drum and bass only version of Red.
Semplicemente splendida,mi inchino davanti ai re
Beuatiful version. Is that Muir on trombone? Anyway, the only thing missing is Fripp's (original) solo at the end. His most melodic and perhaps my favorite Fripp solo ever.
An awful lot of contemporary music lacks the mysterious and enigmatic atmosphere of things like this. That's a real shame. Because it's those qualities that draws one into the music, makes it interesting musically and lifts up the imagination. I suppose it was the times and the willingness people had to listen that's changed. I doubt we'll see the stars align like that again.
¡Crimson is King!
The beginning reminds me of one time on acid listening to the classical music station on the radio
😁👍
😎👍❤🖖
I always thought Muir used an overdubbed cuica or gong for that sound at the beginning.
i would love to know how they get that sound at the beginning, i was suspecting eno had something to do with it, but i dont know now. does kinda remind me of a jungle
Do you think it would be possible for you to release a version of Larks' Tongues in Aspic Part IV + Coda: I Have a Dream as one from ReconstruKction but with no vocals on Coda? I always thought that track was amazing but would be really cool to hear as a full instrumental also.
You didn't mention Bill! (Unless this is Muir on the [admittedly] mixed-down drums)
Dear Jah Rastafari, the drums are a bleed on the tape, and Bill wasn't mentioned, only because he is not featured in the mix. Best Stormy
@@kingcrimson King Crimson praises Jah Rastafari?
@@HerbalistGuybrush Yeah, pretty cool...
KONO DIAVOLO DAAAAA!
How's talking here nobody say watch enjoy the sound I mean the song to make it easy people's.
I think 🤔 is funny!?.

Hey Mr
And John Wetton is dead ? Sad to learn it. I hope that David Cross is still with us. For Robert we know.
David Cross is still alive, still working, and in fact is doing a "LTIA @ 50" tour (with his own band; Robert's not involved, though it seems he's on board with David doing it).
is that Reggie Watts on the flute?
All Krimson is mint do. You doubt that
Always preferred early crimson, with sinfield lyrics, but when Palmer James
Came in with lyrics, along with wetton I thought it was great.
I hope someone agrees with me but I can’t get into them past
The RED album and I’ve tried.
Exiles one of the best tracks written ever.
Yes, I also love Wetton's vocals, those years was the best period imo. The first two albums are classics, but Cirkus I never liked it. Also enjoy the 80's era but it's a different type of music
@@mishkachok3137
Hello from mad Cyril in the u.k.!
I agree, but my mate says he read somewhere after RED, Fripp
Was going to rename the band as Discipline, which if you think about it
Makes perfect sense.
Take care.
@@madcyril4135 Fripp is such an odd carachter. I know he is the only link in the current KC, but you have to admire him for reinventing his music trough so many decades. And who knows, maybe in the future I can look back and appreciate what is KC is doing now 🤔
@@mishkachok3137
Hello from mad Cyril!
I agree with you, it’s me I’ve tried the post RED stuff I personally don’t get it.
But I still admire Fripp for sticking to his guns, and doing what he wants
he is an amazing guitarist.
Take care.

Mr Robert "greed" fripp..
I always loved "larks" but I never liked this song... I'm a bad fan I know 😞🙏
@@marceloquintanilla4777 has the right of it. You don't need to like every work someone produces to be a fan.
If you start to like jazz and classic, many of the crimson’s song become magics of life!
I wasn't that keen on it when I first heard it either, but it grew on me. And continued to grow on me. More than forty years have passed, and now I find this song deeply moving. (Excuse me, there seems to be something in my eye...)
