- Come for a cruise in my true street strip 1968 Dodge Dart drag car to the scales amd we can weight her! My 68 dart is power by a Mopar 360 that has been bored and stroked to a 414 small block. Very similar the the popular 408 Mopar stroker with a few more cubes, a solid roller cam and these trickflow CNC heads made a happy 580 hp on the dyno. I drag race amd street drive this Mopar on the regular!
Yes I got a haircut lol
oh no!!
that haircut will knock off another 100 lbs. at the track
You look like Russell Crow with that haircut.
@@moparnut6933 but, like a young Russel crow?
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop yes lol definitely not current fat washed up russel crow.
Thanks for the cruise the motor sounds great.
👍🏻👍🏻
2022 must be the year of the haircut....I'm 62 and cut off my mullet that I had since the early 80,s.....
Car looks and sounds gr8.
Hope you and family are well. Always enjoy your uploads...thanks.
Right on! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Actually I started growing a mullet for NNN and in the process my boss and a coworker none of us has gotten a haircut Yet this year ! 👍Last time I had long hair I was 19 .
That's one BEE-U-Tee-Full DART ! You have such an eye for detailing, and man it sounds great and Looks Awesome. You just need a 1/4 mile 'Strip to play with it on, so no more itsy-bitsy tracks, hell I wouldn't even waste *My time on an 1/8th mile !
Take what I can get! But will be hitting the 1/4 next season 👍🏻
It’s going more and more to 1/8
Manditory throttle pop going under the overpass- gotta do it!
Great car, thanks for the ride!.
No doubt! Thanks for watching. Lots on the channel!
That's an awesome car when I was a kid I had a 69 swinger bone stock but I smoked a lot of Big Blocks with it ran strong sold it and bought a 69 Z28 love them both
Always great to see ya and your sweet ride thanks for the video
Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Good to see! My barracuda was 2945 at the track without me in it. I don’t have much interior left, Dana 60, Iron heads, 727. Cheers buddy!
Nice 👍🏻 not sure where I got the extra 100lbs but who knows! Lol I was happy with it. Need to get the 50/50 now.
My buddy's 69 Dart with a 340 auto was 3,100 lbs in GS/A AHRA Super Stock. He didn't have a cage back then and it had the 8 3/4 rear end. He also had a 68 Hemi Super Stock fiberglass hood. Considering you have a cage and Dana that's good even without your hood. He ran 11.90 with a modified 650 cfm Holley 2bbl. Glad you made the shifter mod!
Gorgeous car. Sounds wicked too!
That's a sweet Ride, my High School Buddy's Brother had one of these in Pastel Yellow and Black (back in '76) , 340/4 Speed, it ran mid 13.00's we had a "Famous" Drag Strip about 20 minutes from us (OCIR) for $5.00 on Wednesdays ANYBODY could run, complete with Time Slips: Reaction Time, 60 ft, ET and Top Speed... I wouldn't bother to try to remember his Times, but it sure was fun as a High Schooler out in the summer night drinken a beer or two and smokin a cig or something and Drag Racin'.
Right on bro! Sounds like fun! Thanks for watching
Nice job...car has come along way.
👍🏻👍🏻
Joey: Your Dart GTS is a..perfect example of "old school" hot rod street/strip car. Your results speak for the effort you put into the car to get her..right. Always something...else you could do, BUT as she sits today👍.
Thank you for the kind words. They are never really done are they… Thanks for watching
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop Joey: NO...but every moment their running good is JOY! Your car/channel along with Nick's Garage keep ALL my "old school" car memories ALIVE. Did I mention your cam choice/exhaust note is PERFECT! Every single time you fire that Dart up....Almost in tears from the GOOD memories my friend👍
@@victorwilburn3498 glad your enjoying the channel 👍🏻
Cruising season! Loving the cruise videos, you should post more (hint-hint) LOL! Was about to razz you about the clean cut but then I saw your pinned post haha.
Ya prob some more cruisin coming up!
Damn that thing is f**kin CLEAN!!!
Thanks for watching lots more on the channel!
With the full cage, Dana, all steel 3100 is not bad at all.
A stock 68 GTS is 3065.
Thanks for taking us along brother. She is looking gorgeous as always.
👍🏻👍🏻🥹
This is a great video on the backroads, the weathers been great here as well. I’m glad you get to enjoy it a bit before the snow hits. I absolutely cannot wait to see where you go next with this build. Considering the switch to manual steer, it seems to me that you have lots of space under the hood. Procharger. Just sayin’.
Wow that was a nice ride, thanks for taking us along 👍
Thanks for coming 👍🏻
Lol back up after weigh in and yes , must look at it ! Lol no doubt 😂 I expected more like 3300 so loaded interior , Great 👍 !
I consider the 68 darts, baby GTXs.
Totally after I took the tail panel off I thought it looked like a little roadrunner! Never put the panel back on I like it better without it
3120 is pretty good considering the cage, Dana 60 and full interior! What I would give for Casper to weigh that..
Lol. Ya I was happy about it. Good for street strip ripper. What your truck weigh??
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop last time I scaled it.. Casper weighed in at 4080
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage you’ll make up the difference with horsepower 👍🏻
Thanks for the update. I'm already looking forward to the next one.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Beast of a car
Sounds and looks good Joe. See you in Mission next year.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Pretty similar in weight to my Olds. Local truck scales say it weighs 3100 lbs even. I'm trying to cut some weight this winter.
Car is fantastic sounds strong. Mopar made the unibody so well it was the greatest for racing.
A body’s to the front!
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop I raced my nova back in the day and taking as much off to lower that weight, it was still 3495 with out me.
Man your car is light. My '68 impala weighed in at 4,260 pounds with a full tank of gas. She ain't slow either😆
Bro, where are you at? Your attention to detail is awesome
🇨🇦 thanks bro! And thanks for watching, lots on the channel!
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop ok, the fact that you answered me deserves a subscription. Well done
@@leehouston5436 hell ya brother
Got the same intake on my 12.3.1 318 with a bigger cam
I think that weight is pretty good, my '74 VJ Valiant hardtop came in at 1495 Kg( 3295 lbs) with a 318/904 , I ended dropping in a 440/727 which I never re weighed but I'm estimating the engine was about 150lbs more than the 318 which in kilos was about 68Kg , but I'm not sure what the difference was between the transmissions, but I think your doing really good considering its a street/strip car. FYI your model Dart was sold here in Australia under the Banner of VF Valiant 1969
Nice! Yea she ant too bad considering the cage and all thanks bud
My all-steel '71 iron headed 440 Duster (except for fiberglass front bumper) weighed 2850 with fuel. It had a 6-point bar in it, was back halved and no interior with just a fiberglass driver's seat. Honestly, I'd rather have an interior. No idea what my '74 big block Duster is going to weigh. I added 150lbs of sound deadener to it. My priorities have changed.
Priorities do change thanks for watching!
Great 👍 video 📹! Always great to listen to the sound of your GTX cruising 😎...Weather here in Florida has been crazy too after the hurricane 🌀...
When you changed the steering box did you centre the steering wheel?
Well I tried but it was off a bit, was going to straighten it but lines up the trans brake button perfect for racing so I left it lol
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop I was thinking it could be ergonomics, and luck.
Subscribed a while back and have watched all the videos. You have one awesome car!. Your commentary is excellent. Gotta ask...what color is it? By chance you have a paint code?
It’s dodge inferno red from the early 2000s it has a bit more candy in it tho. Thanks for watching👍🏻
Hell yeah 😎😎😎
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What front tire and wheel are you running?
sick car nice! Q; do you know whats the best tunnel ram money can buy that will work with 3x2 6 pack carbs? ideally something that fits under the hood or doesnt stick out too much... I want to build a 460 alluminium 340 based aftermarket small block for street/strip with a 6k rpm mild cam
Pretty edelbrock is the only 6 pac manifold for small block. Thanks for watching
As an owner of a supercharged coyote mustang, seeing your videos makes me want to learn more about carbureted, old school v8s. Any recommendations on a cheap-ish platform to start with? I'm mechanically inclined
It’s all good! Lots of good options and platforms. Not too sure on a cheap ish option tho as prices have gone up in past years. Chevys are the cheapest for speed parts tho lol. Go for whatever you like! Ps they won’t be as fast as your super charged coyote lol
hey so i must have missed it if you already did so, so you said contemplating switching to 3500 stall converter. have you?
The converter stalls at 5050 on the button. I do plan on lowering it.
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop I foot braked my cuda up to 4000 flashed and shifted before the TREE TOWER for 60fts, That was fun. so your "68 looks like it will be much quicker then old track when you race at other race tracks. But of course Family 1ST!
What size headers and mufflers u run sounds dame good I am chevy guy but ur car and car super cool
Tti 1 7/8 headers and Flowmaster 40s couple vids of the set up on the channel. Thanks for watching
Small block Dodge's. like to run cool.
Put a good four speed behind it.. You'll have a blast
3120 lbs is awesome, that Dana 60 is heavy in comparison to an 8 3/4 … love the look of that Dana tho
Amd it’s wayyyyyy stronger
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop 100% agreed, it’s hard to blow up a Dana 60
I think 3120 is awesome …. You can lose more by going to a tube k frame the stock one weighs a ton …. Get that Bad Boy down to 2900 ….
I'm guessing your car is a mid to low 10 second car?
And you said the hair would never go away......yea, okay....lol
I don’t recall saying that lol
Seems pretty streetable for what it is and what you do with it. What were you turning for times? For serious racing and a tall tire i thought you would be running lower than 430, what RPM are you going thru the end at? 580 HP isnt a joke, that would walk on a 69 Hemi dart
Check out some race vids for full detail
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop Thanks, i just did, too bad you didnt have a 1/4 mile track
@@zxtenn I have one vid of a trip to a 1/4 mile. Only got 2 hits and still working kinks out and smaller carb but 11.1 @120
@@zxtenn The 68 LO23 Hemi Dart was guaranteed to run the quarter in 11 seconds or less or Dodge would take it back. Many got them into the 9s with minimal tweaking too.
do you think you maybe sell the dart for BIG BIG BUCKS
3152 isn't bad. I know you said car should be in 10's what is your goal?
Well a 10 second ticket would the goal for a bit. But your never really done are you.
PS- probably another reason your Dart is running so cold now, is because you don't have a hood on it at present, the hood traps and stores a lot of heat under there, just my .02¢
Ya for sure. But been running no hood all year. Still seems to be running colder. I do think the lines help
Love the reverse manual for shifting makes so much more sense, had one myself with a 3800 stall
F
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 on on the button at5050 lol
Should have rolled car forward, and got rear tire weight.
Oh that’s smart. I should have thought of that. Good one!
You might gain 2/10ths losing the bun lol.🤣😂
Lol. Weight off is weight off.
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop The Dart is looking so righteous dude.
Please put the pedal metal😊
When you build a car. Do it right. Get the steering wheel centered
It places the transbrake button perfect, I say in video, so I left it. Dumbass.
Should weigh anywhere from 2800 to 3300lbs usually about 3100
A 1970 429 scj Torino Cobra weighs 764 lbs more then your dart.
Darts closer to 3000 Dusters3100 to 3200
how about 100.000 grand
How about a 100,000 grand what?
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop to buy your dart I had a 68 30 years ago had to sell when I got a house
so no match for horsepower, we have a 1975 318, 40 over, Edlebrock aluminum RPM Performer heads, and ProFlo 4 multiport injection fuel injection, 35 lb per hour injectors, long tube (3.0 inch exhaust) with Hedman headers, empty FlowMaster cans, A904, 8.25 non Sure Grip 2.45 rear, 15 inch wheels-only 'bout 6" wide on the ground. The previous owner stripped out everything that didn't make HP, sound deadener, A/C, oh then painted it red, not that it mattered.
2250 rpm for 65 mph on a flat stretch is kinda the norm on the highway. 45ish most of the time in town at about 1550 rpms. I watched your tach more than the scenery on the way to the scales. I heard your shift points to, actually about the same-just different vehicle/engine/ear and tires, but drive sound is about the same
I was told she weighs 2700 pounds-and I ain't gonna convert that to...that... the system there 😉 for obvious reasons😉but I quit shifting it after the fuel injection, doesn't bog down anywhere yet. Pretty steep hills down here-Vancouver WA.-and RPM's will not change and I got a steady foot. I was planning on going out and weighing her a few months back but didn't for some reason or another. Think I will and see how much weight I can make her gain during the winter!
