From a thermodynamics standpoint. The screw blower is a true air compressor. The roots blower is an air pump. The isentropic efficiency of the screw blower is about 24% higher. Excellent video we appreciate it.
Scotty Cannon was the very first funny car guy I ever seen live. Got to stand in the middle of the track at staging when he left the light. It was a feeling I will never forget. And Cannons cool ass glasses he would wear was bad ass. This was in the Late 90's in Huntsville Alabama and I was around 18 or 19.
Love the Detroit Dragstrip shirt. I'm a 65 yr old Detroiter, retired steel mill worker and my older brothers use to race there. I'm a big fan of yours and always Robin for ya. God Speed Sir
Love your straightforward explanations on everything! I’m 55 and building my first blown alcohol 69 Camaro. Your a wealth of knowledge thank you for sharing
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this video and I will watch it 10x more times. You are a true drag racing engineer. My complements to you and all your teachers throughout the years. Seriously, you really know what you are talking about and you are not afraid to share it.
I tell Jim I certainly learned a good bit today ! I know I also appreciate you sharing the knowledge and hopefully this type mentality will help continue to grow this sport! I’m so pumped about npk season 6
Always a pleasure Jim and the crew about all the great info of how stuff works and how professional you speak off everything that go's on in our future of our NPK season soon starting see ya in Hebron Ohio 1st race
I think that's awesome the way you keep the "old"/ur way of tuning instead of just automatic going to the easiest ways. Also sir if you guys are running like ur car was at the end of last year its gonna be a good year for sure.. I hope you have nothing but success this year brother you deserve it just a really humble great guy! Give um hell big guy!!
Mr. Howe you sir are an excellent teacher. You broke that stuff down clearly, and quickly. Great video and thanks for taking the time to make it. I look forward to seeing more. God bless you and your family!
Terrific piece! Makes me think that your "manual" tuning is more effective than they guys that are using computers to control fuel delivery, since your program seems to be head and shoulders above the other Screw blown guys. Y'all set the bar really high-keep raising it, and I look forward to season 6!
I've always heard that you can make more power with mechanical fuel injection over EFI just like you can make more horsepower with a mechanical fuel pump over an electric fuel pump but they do make good brushless electric fuel pumps nowadays that you can make alot of horsepower with like the Aeromotive electric brushless fuel pumps starting with the 5.0gph you can make right at 1000hp with them and get as big as the 20.0gph and I'm sure you can make over 2000hp with it if you have the right injectors and so on
@@keefespencer1173 For a long time mechanical injection was the only way to reliably get enough fuel flow to make as much power as these engines make. Now there’s big enough electronic injectors to make big power without mechanical injection. But, fuel pumps haven’t quite gotten there. Generally you still have to go to a mechanical pump for high power on something like methanol that takes a lot of fuel. The main downside to mechanical injection like this is they don’t work well for driving around. They can be ok for idle, and work great at full throttle. Now a days some people want a 5,000hp drag car that can also drive on the road.
I’ve seen so many videos about Procharger and turbo cars but I’ve never seen anyone from street outlaws talk about the screw blown setup. Looking forward to seeing more from you guys. I also expect to see a lot more screw blowers in NPK this year.
what an honor to have a little bit of knowledge handed out by a truly experienced man the hours upon hours of trial and error the money spent on the thrill of speed just awesome I once had the opportunity to be on pit Lane with team Cruz Pedregon at the spring nationals in Kirkersville Ohio everybody should experience the pure power once in their lifetime it is truly life-changing
Great video!! I've always been a huge roots and screw blower lover. I thought it was cool that even i could understand what you were explaining. And now I know what all the signals were about..and its going to be cool to see them this year and actually know whats going on! Great program! Huge fan! ❤
I really enjoyed the video. It was informative from a technical standpoint. No fluff, no BS just data from your experience. Your approach into the youtube arena is exceptional. I would encourage you to keep the technical lessons and information of your program coming. I worked for NASA where I ran the Facilities Operations & Maintenance and programs. I have multiple certifications in many technical fields so I really appreciate your content. Keep it up. Thanks
Damn man you got to learn and actually work alongside some real legends and very very innovative people!! Much respect!! David Moon and Howard Monday!! I remember growing up and watching old classic drag racing videos and some reels with my dad and he always made mention of David Moon and Howard Monday, saying those are guys that he would've love to meet and wished he could've been setup next to in the pits back when he was racing.. Jim that's awesome.. Damn good content by the way.. God bless yall and good luck this season..
jim im so happy to see you doing well. you actually letting your fans know specifics and being so humble your going to be a fan favorite this year especially in the no prep felon community the buzz around your car and program is unreal. npk is going to have its hands full this season lol
Loved the transparency on this video Jim. Learned a lot! Looking forward to the 2023 NPK season. I think you will really give Ryan a run for his money this season.
This has to be the very best explanation of blower engines I have ever seen. You explain all 4 types of blowers in an easy to understand way. 28 Years ago I built a 489 in BBC for a costumer and it had a BDS blower on it. It made 20lbs at 6400 and 1444hp on the engine dyno, with cast iron 502 heads and a small flat tappet camshaft. When BDS sent us the set up we had both top and down nozzles. needles to say we had way to much fuel in the engine and ended up running the top nozzles only. A thought about the fuel pump speed, I just wonder if a guy could not build a miniature CVT style transmission to work with the fuel pump? AWESOME video for sure, Thank you
Excellent video Jim. I have been around a lot of the NPK guys the last few years and I appreciate you taking the time to put stuff like this out. You are quickly becoming a fan favorite.
Hi. Thanks. I am self learning about roots charging, etc until I get to the track and learn.of more experienced people. Thanks for the heads up. Karl fro. Australia
Very cool video sir! I've never really gotten into that level of power. I kinda knew some of those basics, but enjoyed learning about the mechanical injection side. Seems so easy to wound a setup with the proper knowledge. I tune EFI, but couldn't imagine trying that.
That’s for all the info man. Love watching you guys race and the technical aspects of your podcast is awesome. Also from Michigan and love seeing team Detroit content
Awesome content and extremely informative and very impressed by your knowledge and willingness to share. Good luck with NPK IN 23. You just made a new fan and I’ll be pulling for you this year and excited for new content. Thank you.
Omg Jim, absolutely killer video. I know you’re extremely busy but please for the love of god please do more videos like this. My older brother and I ran a Weiand 6-71 on our 67 Camaro for a while until we went to a Reher Morrison BB lol. But I have to say you are a true old school drag racer because tuning that hot rod in this day and age with out computer controlled fuel injection is an absolute art. You my friend are a true artist. I could watch and listen to you all day. Keep up the great work and go show these kids how a real man does it. Damn this was a great video. Thanks again. 🇺🇸💪🏼
This is an awesome video. I have learned a lot by watching it. I really didn't know the difference between a screw blower and a roots blower. I feel like I understand a little better now. Blowers are just bad ass and they are cool as hell sticking out of the hood of a hot rod.
with every video i gain more and more respect for you. the way you explain what is going on is simply wonderful to a person who knows hardly anything about blowers. i have always known about them but never fully understood how they work now i do. i also am so happy to know that you kinda go old school not relying solely on computers very few real driver mechanics out there. thanks so much for taking the time and effort to explain and the series you are doing to help other people is wonderful as i have told you in the past Ryan has always been my favorite but i can see a big difference in you and him i think i finally kinda know you even though we never met hopefully i get to go to one of the NPK races soon have had lots of health issues that prevented that but hopefully they are behind me now again thanks for taking the time to explain wish others were like you. really hope to see you in the winners circle a lot this coming year
I also love how humble and real Mr Howe is as well hes definitely grown on me too. Just such a great family man and im like you hes got another fan this year..
From a thermodynamics standpoint. The screw blower is a true air compressor. The roots blower is an air pump. The isentropic efficiency of the screw blower is about 24% higher. Excellent video we appreciate it.
Anybody cool enough and crazy enough to hang with Scotty Cannon is who I'll be rooting for . I'd love to see him back , he is a freakin legend
Hell yeah, I totally agree
Scotty Cannon was the very first funny car guy I ever seen live. Got to stand in the middle of the track at staging when he left the light. It was a feeling I will never forget. And Cannons cool ass glasses he would wear was bad ass. This was in the Late 90's in Huntsville Alabama and I was around 18 or 19.
I seen Scotty Cannon race in Orangeburg South Carolina when I was a kid i was hooked ever since
Love the Detroit Dragstrip shirt. I'm a 65 yr old Detroiter, retired steel mill worker and my older brothers use to race there. I'm a big fan of yours and always Robin for ya. God Speed Sir
Howe Motorsports.. Awesome explanation of the differences between the screw and roots blowers.. Thanks for sharing it.
Kudos for sticking with the mechanical injection. You definitely learned from some greats!! Good luck this season
Excellent explanation about the different types of blowers and fuel system delivery!
Most people don't tell secrets, but these guy are going to the top this year 🎉🎉
Love your straightforward explanations on everything! I’m 55 and building my first blown alcohol 69 Camaro. Your a wealth of knowledge thank you for sharing

I am one of those folks who asked the question. I want to thank you for taking the time to make this video. I appreciate it.
Thank you so much for breaking down the differences between the blowers. Very easy to understand!
Always a pleasure Jim and the crew about all the great info of how stuff works and how professional you speak off everything that go's on in our future of our NPK season soon starting see ya in Hebron Ohio 1st race
Thank you . We're trying to get better at it.
Thank you for taking the time to explain in depth of whats going on between different blowers. Very cool!!!
Thanks Jim for the education. Stay safe!

After hearing your video really changed the way I perceive you. Good luck this year.
And I pray to God nobody gets hurt.
