I remember that day and I cried when I heard the silence after the station turned off the transmitter and it went over to wfan. I don't follow sports,I don't even care about sports I loved WNBC DAMN IT. I recorded and saved a small bunch of Imus and Howard stern shows, some in their entirety, and still have them on reels of tape. I live to hear Imus when he was younger and his voice was stronger, he was very funny

From late 1987, till practically the end of WNBC, I would call Big Jay Sorensen about once a month on the overnight "Time Machine". I've lived in West Virginia all my life, and he would rib me about being a hillbilly. He said New Yorkers got a kick out of my southern accent. I wouldn't trade those days for being the president. Although I have fond memories of WNBC, my all-time favorite station was, hands down, WHN. As anybody who knows anything at all about NYC radio is aware 660 is now WFAN, which was on 1050 after WHN went to its eternal glory.

I was in my car driving through New Have, Ct. coming home from work. I listened to Alan Colmes sign off and The Fan signing on but I can't remember who was the first host. Maybe Mike + The Mad Dog show. You know, come out of the gate w/the big guns.

A West Coast "Radio City" for the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) was built in San Francisco in the early 1940s. It housed KPO-AM 680 (later KNBC-AM and still later KNBR-AM) and KGO-AM 810, the West Coast "flagship" NBC radio stations for the Red and Blue NBC networks. KGO-AM soon became an ABC radio station. The radio stations left that building long ago, but a very interesting mural remains: www.artandarchitecture-sf.com/tenderloin-san-francisco-december-11-2011.html The mural symbolizes the far reach of radio signals and how they tied together diverse cultures.

Half the country's TV stations would have to find a new affiliate if that ever happened.
