Unfortunately, Elvis did not have a son. He had a musically untalented daughter. Shakin is his true son in the spiritual and musical sense. In some segments, even better than Elvis.

I’m an American. I was a teenager in the early to late 80s. I wasn’t s’posed to be enthralled with Shakin’ Steven’s. Well, F*** ‘em, I WAS! I still have to struggle to find any of Shaky’s stuff. Thank goodness for the internet. I NEVER got to see any of these vids or hear half of these songs that he released ‘round 40 YEARS ago! He IS a great artist and I love his work! 👍
i'm 73 years old now, been hearing this song all my life. always evoked an emotion from me, and now more than ever. my house is getting old, children gone, needs paint, etc., but i'm not going to work on it much any more as i'm nearing the time when i "meet the saints". originally i listened to stuart hamblin's version.
That time of year thou mayst in me behold When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang Upon those boughs which shake against the cold, Bare ruin'd choirs, where late the sweet birds sang. In me thou see'st the twilight of such day As after sunset fadeth in the west, Which by and by black night doth take away, Death's second self, that seals up all in rest. In me thou see'st the glowing of such fire That on the ashes of his youth doth lie, As the death-bed whereon it must expire, Consum'd with that which it was nourish'd by. This thou perceiv'st, which makes thy love more strong, To love that well which thou must leave ere long.
Being a country song, the Stuart Hamblen version has a very different vibe to it and also slightly different lyrics. I prefer the Shakin' Stevens version, as the melody seems to better fit the lyrics, especially I love how he sings "Ain't got time to fix the shingles". The Hamblen version sounds too happy for the lyrics to my ears.
I'm getting there brother. So, to go out rockin' or with passivity? With quiet acquiescence or shakin' rattlin' and rollin?. With quiet dignity into that good night or kicking the reaper in his teeth like rockin'' rebels born in the 50s?

This mans a legend but has been totally erased from history by today's radio stations, they just refuse to play him even if you send in requests for his songs. This song should be on the playlist of the so called radio stations who claim to play the greatest hits from the 80's but they continually refuse even though he was the best selling singles artist of that era.

First single I bought, aged 9, had to persuade my mum to go to a local record shop to buy it. It was after seeing this video on tv. That started something that continues to this day, buying every single, album, anything that had Shaky's name on it.
