  • Are motorhomes safe? I can’t answer that for you, but I would like to share our story of what led us to rethink purchasing a motorhome.

Thanks for sharing this story and I love the video! You're absolutely right - safety is a really important consideration, especially for those new to the RV world. After doing our research, my family and I ended up with an Airstream travel trailer for several important safety reasons including the fact they're much more aerodynamically shaped (less wind resistance, especially in crosswinds) and they're center of gravity is much lower. We also made sure we were towing it with a vehicle that offered plenty of margin in it's tow-rating and ability.

Really appreciate your insights on why you built out a passenger van. My wife and I traveled in a class C for two years and it was amazing. We are adding a little one soon, so now I'm prioritizing safety over the creature comforts of a bigger rv. Your thoughts further validated the direction I want to. Thanks for sharing! Is your family happy with the 170 length vs 144 or Transit? Do you feel 4x4/awd is necessary?

Thanks for the comment Mike and congrats on growing your family. We have no regrets going with the Sprinter. Please, check out our van walk around on the channel. We test drove every brand before choosing. The overall quality, interior dimensions, engine power/efficiency and ride comfort led us to go with the Mercedes. I’d recommend looking into departure angles on the longer transits and even the 170 extended, especially as you add gear to the rear of the van. The isn’t an off reading issue as much as just exiting parking lots. The two wheel drive has never been an issue for us. We travel many forest roads and dirt roads with no issues. I mainly considered door height for the little ones to climb in and out, fuel efficiency and the reality of extensive off-roading in a 9 ft tall vehicle when going with the 2WD. It really is a great way to travel with small ones. Hope you and your family make many happy memories together which ever route you choose. Thanks and God bless.
