FROM ANCESTRAL FLUTE TO LEGEND OF ZELDA
The world of Ocarina is Global and very diverse. Being in the vessel flute family it has multi ethnic origins. Hard to believe but in ancient times both the Chinese Xun and Mesoamerican whistles were ocarinas. Europeans kidnapped indigenous people to show for the courts of royals in Europe. This inspired a few italian makers to create whistles inspired by Precolombian craftspeople.
The instrument itself had its most classical and standardized form in 1852 with Giuseppe Donati. He created the 10 hole Italian ocarina that was capable of being tuned to one key and playing all 12 chromatic pitches.
After WWII American soldiers were handed ocarinas by the government as a way to relax. They brought these to Japan and with the combination of European maker’s Feihn, people in Japan started to make, play and study ocarina. It spread throughout Asian and new styles were developed such as the Asian style that extended the range.
A famous musician named Sojiro sold out stadiums performing on the 12 hole Asian style ocarina. This was around the time that Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time was inspired.
Legend of Zelda ocarina of time was a huge milestone for the ocarina, bringing it to the public eye once more.
People on the US and all over the world are realizing that the ocarina is a real and beautiful instrument. Makers are starting to make them again and musicians and students are starting to play and study the instrument.

Thanks for your insight on this beautiful ancestral instrument that belonged to our people, and many others, and now we share with the world thanks to Giuseppe and Zelda.
That was really interesting, the one where you tilted it and it made a sound was very mysterious! Amazing!
Thank you very much!
He seems like chill guy.
Agreed. And has a nice teaching style where you can tell he loves what he does.
Came to see if real Ocarina sounds like in Zelda : Ocarina of Time. That's superb
Some of them do, depending on their key.
Wow~ It's fun to watch various ocarinas.

Are all those instruments considered Ocarinas, and what is the difference between one, and a flute?
Woaah how did you train your turtle all of that??? I didn't really have to teach mine but it just kind of made that sound when I tried that.. but it only sings in 2 pitches -.-
his eye color!
He looks very English!
Is blue!
@@monkeytennis7477 yeah looks like one
@@shakthipasupathi317 I believe he’s French (and probably wouldn’t appreciate being compared to the English lol)
@@blueeyed_killjoy perhaps but that is what is wrong with the world. We are all more similar than different as shown in the history of the ocarinaitself throughout the world.
