Been struggling a lot with this, I’ve been so anxious n stressed that I’m nauseous most of the day. I’ve stuck to eating bland foods because of fear of throwing up and it’s been a while since I looked forward to eating some of my favorite meals. Update: hello to everyone reading this! Just wanted to say I hope you’re all staying positive, I know that having severe anxiety/panic attacks is the absolute worst. Just know that you’re not alone, and there’s so many things to do to improve your quality of life. Lately I’ve been incredibly stressed with school and my anxiety is now starting to cause dizziness and panic attacks almost daily. There are times when I actually feel so upset that I’m feeling this way, but I’m doing my best and taking it day by day. See, you’re not alone! Listen to binaural beats for anxiety and take a few deep breaths and know that everything will be ok. 💙

Anxiety also releases stress hormone (cortisol), which causes the body to produce extra levels of stomach acid. That acidity causes the lining of the esophagus to become irritated, and this can lead to stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, and in severe cases, stress-induced ulcers.👍

To my experience, all mushrooms have always said, "Pay attention to your life. How you think, how you feel, and what will you do with the information that you always knew, but now are seeing in this point of view." This is why mushrooms are so respected in tribal cultures. This mental health treatment works for me too. Half micro doses do the trick for me. At least a few days at a time with lengthy time in between. Never addictive. Thank you for sharing this point

This is 100% true. I want to try and help somebody by telling my story. About 4 years ago I started having really bad anxiety, was finding it hard to go to work or be around people or perform any kind of task. I went to a few doctors and told them that I feel like my anxiety is worse when things are going wrong with my gut. None of them batted an eyelid until the last one who told me pretty much the same thing as this video. She recommended me some books to read so I read them, and did a whole lifestyle change. My wife and I started making all fermented foods, our own kombucha, our own kefir, our own kimchi, fermented veggies, I cut out sugar, I cut out booze, started exercising EVERY day, and I can't tell you what a difference it all made. Much like this video said it doesn't eliminate the anxiety, but it puts you back in the drivers seat, it gave me power over the anxiety so that I could deal with that. 4 years later I feel 1000% better than what I did then. I'm not completely without anxiety but I have much, much more control to the point where it isn't impacting my life more than I imagine a normally 'anxious' person would be. I also was able to start re-introducing some naughty things, sweets, alcohol, and just learning what I can get away with without it impacting me. If your anxiety stems from gut problems like in this video, please, tackle your gut health first, and see what a huge difference it will make!

If your GI issues are rooted in stress, and you go to a doctor to try to sort it out "medically", that can be counterproductive ...ie when we consider these ailments, tha5 have no organic cause, for the most part, are Mind Body or learned "neuroplastic" pain.

I have a personal relationship with GERD--having said that, my issue comes more from a reverse effect. I have endured what I call a 'nervous gut' since my preteen years--I am just over seventy now. External and internal stress causes my gut to go into overload. At night, if I am thinking about something or nothing, I can feel the turbulence always beginning in my gut.

Ooofff girl yes, this is true. Whenever I would get acid reflux or heartburn (not as severe as GERD) , it started leading to anxiety, it even made me think I was having a heart attack once. I ended up going to urgent care, got some heart related test done, and was diagnosed with General Anxiety. I got a psychiatrist, got on lexapro, and with the help of my therapist was able to seperate anxiety from stomach pains (and other pains). My life has gotten a lot better, I am as happy as can be. Anxiety is a real problem, and it can be debilitating, you too can overcome it with the help you need.

After watching this video I can’t help but think all this anxiety is being triggered by my stomach. This made me feel so much better. I’ve been living with IBS for over 10 years, with the last 2 years getting progressively worse. It’s unfortunately gotten to the point where I am experiencing consistent intense daily pain no matter what I do. I am also diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and persistent depressive disorder, which have also become significantly worse over the past year or so. Almost every single day I find myself crying in a heap on the floor asking the empty room “Why can’t I just be normal for one day” and feeling so overwhelmed by physical and emotional pain that I just want everything to stop. I know at times my brain is actively working against me, floating anxiety across my consciousness and into my stomach, but it’s so hard to hold onto that fact and remember it’s a passing feeling when I’m in it. I always feel like I will always be in pain, and my brain has done a very good job of creating barriers to keep that way of thinking in place and they are so incredibly hard to take down…

If you're not taking any meds, may I suggest something?
If you put together a smoothie of equal parts red cabbage, carrots and celery, daily, that will help repair and re-line the stomach wall. Try also cultivating your OWN kefir milk, drinking small amounts daily (5-10 teaspoons) because it has the beneficial bacteria she mentioned. Also, increase your Fibre intake (prebiotic), as this helps 'feed' the probiotics in kefir and in your stomach. (Try introducing garlic and ginger into your diet - prebiotics). I used to be INCREADIBLY depressed, and would suffer from unrelenting reflux for DAYS at a time, but then I did all that and I'm beginning to feel much better. (changed my diet to low carb with no crap too). Thinking about the past or the future doesn't help so try to occupy yourself with hobbies and pastimes.
Above all, start over with maybe 2 (small) meals a day, and DON'T beat yourself up for ANYTHING - be gentle with yourself. BTW, the main cause of acid reflux us NOT ENOUGH acid in the STOMACH, so it has to 'borrow' some from the intestines, which is HIGHLY acidic. To increase stomach acid healthily, take an apple cider vinegar pill 10 minutes before eating.

I’ve had all the usual tests, procedures, etc. and everything’s normal. As an adult I’ve been very selective about the foods I do consume in order to get the nutrients my body needs and it’s paid off. Even my blood tests show completely normal or better than normal for my age. There seems to be no known medical cause for my digestive issues so it must be psychological. I’ve been taking probiotics since mid-2000, drink Kombucha, whole organic yogurt, KimChi, Sauerkraut and other healthy bacteria foods, & rarely consume sugar, etc. but still it persists. I’ve come to the conclusion it’s from childhood abuse & trauma (highly dysfunctional family scapegoat). Although therapy has helped a great deal I’m still suffering with chronic stomach pain, and lifelong ambivalence towards eating.

Just when I lost 75 pounds, best shape in 15 years, started having GERD symptoms. 2 ER visits, nothing wrong with my heart. I’ve had maybe 5 episodes in 6 weeks, but the 2 worse were definitely from eating the wrong thing, once 4 hours after soda & Butter popcorn, the last one 5 days ago after a banana & toasted egg sandwich that I don’t know what happened, but 5 minutes later I couldn’t climb stairs and had 3 jolts in my chest followed by 30 minutes of rapid heartbeat. Finally saw a doctor, prescribed Dexilant & Zoloft- everyone is wondering why I’m hesitating to start- now way am I maybe going through a month of hell before things get better! Going to see a gastroenterologist soon and we will see, but I guess the panic will remain for a while….Good luck to you all going through this crap, it’s not funny 🙏❤️😥

I honestly think I ate something bad and caught a food bug or food poisoning and the symptoms I feel being so close to covid are scaring the living life out of me but I notice when I am distracted and watching a video or something I no longer feel the sensation that I am out of breath and can breathe perfectly fine. I am almost positive I do not have covid but instead what the lady in this video is describing. I haven't been eating healthy the past 2 years, only when covid hit I did a 3 month stint of eating only healthy foods and plenty vitamins and it worked, once countries started to open up again I relapsed to eating junk food every day, up to 2 or 3 times a day and the only "healthy" thing entering my body through out this time was water, so I am positive my gut health is extremely poor, I also have had heart burn and other types of problems with my stomach like pains and loose stool, but today the diarrhea has been an ongoing thing all day. I feel much better after watching this video but I want to know if anybody else has felt this way and thought it was covid but ended up just being GI/anxiety problems fooling our brains.

This gave me the answer I'm looking for. I have been suffering with GERD for the past 4 yrs and have an anxiety and panic attack. Whenever my stomach doesn't feel right, I'm starting to feel anxious and my panic would flare up. Thank you Dr. Tracey.

  • @marshag6

This is spot on. It seems that every time I have a stomach flare up it triggers my anxiety. I figured the two might be related one way or another but I wasn’t sure, this confirms it. I also have GERD and like the example you gave, I too was worried that I might have stomach cancer. I gained a bit more understanding from this video.

Marsha, Mind and body are closely related. Reduce negative thoughts with a simple practice. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a healthier life sit on a chair, back straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. Slowly the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Day or night, when taking a walk, when reading, on the phone, before sleep etc sit or lie down and observe your breath. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Avoid constipation as it affects the mind instanly. Reduce spicey-oily foods, drink warm water early morning on an empty stomach and eat less at night. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

Puti, Life and people will never happen exactly the way you want. Adjust or life will get tough. Take a journey inwards. Reduce negative thoughts. Its quite simple with a little determination. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts and anxiety For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight with your thoughts. Slowly negative thoughts will reduce and relax the mind. Deep inhalation-exhalation is not needed. Whenever you are free during the day or night before sleep sit or lie down, be still and observe your breath. Being still reduces negative thoughts. Make the above practice a permanent habit to have a good life. Best wishes and prayers. Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor

    You are a great communicator.
I'm clear of a 4-month period that started with stomach pain and weight loss followed by anxiety-related issues. I took acid suppressors, I changed my diet then took biome restoring pills. This, combined with meditation and breathing strategies I believe helped with the brain-gut fallout from the initial stomach issue.
It is reassuring to hear your explanations in calm, easy-to-understand language. No doubt you've helped others with their challenges or this multi-faceted issue. Thank you. ❤

This is so interesting. I have awful upper and lower gut issues and terrible anxiety. My gastroenterologist says it's just IBS and dyspepsia and anxiety is causing it but I KNOW the it's the symptoms causing the anxiety because on the few off days I am symptom free it reduces my anxiety down to a much more manageable level. In fact, on those rare days I feel like I could conquer the world!

I noticed spicy food would make my stomach feel uncomfortable and basically mimic the feeling of having anxiety/butterflies, but also after watching this video, it makes sense that it could have been actual anxiety since it was irritating to my gut

I struggle with central sensitization pain, mostly in my lower pelvis. Infections/injuries started it, but stress and anxiety kept the pain returning. I have learned i am very prone to this stress-induced nerve pain. In the past year though, i developed severe GERD out of nowhere, after no diet or lifestyle changes. Only thing to note was that i was exercising more than normal and had covid. I may have a hiatal hernia due to the sudden nature of it, but i also have the suspicion that this is yet another manifestation of my overactive nervous system.
Can stress CAUSE severe GERD? (Yes i’m taking multiple acid meds, with only partial relief) or does GERD cause stress? I feel like doctors haven’t taken this very seriously but i am very miserable on some days.

My psychiatrist did the same thing, he said I don’t need klonopin anymore after he prescribed it to me for 13 yrs. He told me me that if I didn’t like it, that he would be understanding if I would find a different psychiatrist.... so I cried my arse off and found a psychiatrist that prescribes me klonopin. I have very bad panic attacks where I couldn’t leave the house btw. I take an antidepressant also.

    The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven,
    hallowed be thy name.
    Thy kingdom come.
    Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
    and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory,
    forever and ever.
    Amen Shalom.

Def a two way street. IBS all started with work burnout/stress and then the IBS brought out all kinds of old anxiety issues that I thought had gone away in my life prior. I checked for Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth, GI Map Stool Test, H Pylori, Colonoscopy, Endoscopy, Autoimmune Tests, Thyroid, Hormone Test and all came back normal. I went 80% whole food plant based, no sugar, gluten or alcohol, take probiotics, add Vitamin D, and still suffer from BLOATING and fatigue. Looking back at my life I have def struggled with anxiety. I think I need to acknowledge that despite all these positive habits I have in place there is an underlying anxiety issue at play that I just cant get a hold of with lifestyle/diet/meditation/praying/therapy/nature/community. I am considering trying medication as another tool and continuing these healthy practices.

Yet no gastroenterologist has ever solved my gastritis or reflux, proton pump inhibitors do not work, and no drug, so how can I treat the stomach first????
