Replacing Ground Contact Wood Skirt on Mobile Home

  • Standard practice 25 years ago was to build a wood skirt around a mobile home with ground contact redwood. I decided to upgrade with concrete and cinderblocks. I used 6x8x16 cinderblocks that were only $1.13 each from Home Depot. It took about 6 cinderblocks and 5 #60 sacks of concrete for every 8 linear feet.
Note: This was done in a location with a very mild climate. You would likely want deeper footings if you were doing in a location that goes below freezing.

That's a great alternative to multiple layers of concrete blocks. Just one layer to stop the rot/termites and then wood on top. Love it.

Thanks. Hopefully is was helpful. My next project there is to replace the deck with pressure treated wood as it has some dry rot and termite activity. If there is interest, I will post a video. I am thinking of screwing down all the deck boards from the bottom so there are no exposed nails or screws from the top.

Just a single row with 1 every 16 inches. The blocks are just to keep animals out and to keep the siding from touching the dirt. They are not structural. I still have the support jacks under the home. The blocks are not too expensive as very standard. At the time they were only a few dollars each and much easier than pouring a concrete footing.
