- This is the piano tutorial for Takin' It To The Streets by the Doobie Brothers. This is a great song to play, and a lot of fun to play in a group or band setting. This may get a little confusing at point, so i'm sorry if it does, but if you need clarification ona anything just comment. Thanks for watching and Good Luck!
I’m 61 and even though it’s rough, this will be the first thing I will play on my piano, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO❤️
We all sure appreciate you posting these tutorials on youtube. It saves us all a lot of time trying to figure these songs out.
Nice work. I learned the song quickly given your approach. Your teaching style is excellent. Enjoyed how you broke it down.
Appreciate the breaking down and the way you show both hands at work...simple and easy to understand for us beginners.....Thank You..!!
Thanks for watching and the nice comment - I appreciate it!
Thanks, not really a pianist but going to give it a try
You did a great job teaching this!! Bravo!! 🙂👍
This was absolutely perfect. Please do more of these with this format! Subscribed!
That was fun to learn, thanks!
Nice 👌 job 👍 Paul thanks for sharing your gift 🎁
Great tutorial of an even greater song Paul!
I play it on guitar but it's clearly a piano song (the pre chorus is fantastic and you nailed it) but the angst does come across rather well with an electric guitar... great message too (even more appropriate today).
You've inspired me to finally get a keyboard and take full advantage of your abundance mentality!
Cheers... Mg
Great tutorial; thanks!
Hey Paul. Thank you! Like a previous comment said. I appreciate your simple approach to teaching this song. I learned it relatively quickly. For more years than you've probably even been alive, I've wanted to learn this song, and now I have. Really happy about that! I'm going to look to see now if you teach 'What a fool believes." If you do. … cool. If not, please do soon!
Know I'm late to this lesson, but THANK YOU. You have just turned what have taken hours into 30 minutes. You are truly generous.
Very helpful lesson. But, the lighting/shadows made things tougher.
Hi Paul, Great job! Now...THIS is how a tutorial should be done. i am a bassist by trade and degree, but, I have a limited piano background and I just picked up a cool Yamaha electric grand from 1978! It's a cool piano and I would like to learn some tunes, therefore, I took to UA-cam to see what I could find. A lot of guys just show vids of themselves play a tune at performance tempo and call it a tutorial...LOL, yeah...not so. Your style of breaking down the parts and naming the notes as you go along...SLOWLY, works great for me! Thanks bro! If you could do Minute by Minute and What a Fool Believes in the same manner, I would be very appreciative! If not, no worries...Takin it To the streets will keep me busy enough for awhile! Thanks again! I am now a subscriber to your channel! I should do a channel for bass video lessons. Thanks! Kurt
Thanks for the comment, Kurt. Glad you liked it! I find the same thing all the time haha "lessons" where it's just a slow video or it's poorly explained. I also see a lot of teachers on UA-cam just start teaching the song and then in the end their version of it is terrible and you've wasted time. Anyways, sounds like a cool piano and that's great you're getting into playing again. I'll take a look at doing that tune too - another good one. Thanks for the sub and take (it to the streets) care haha
Nicely done.
Great tutorial! Explained really well. I play by ear and have been away from performing for a long time. Watching your video walked me through the things that I forgot. Thank you. I look forward to your other videos to refresh my memory!
Thanks - glad it helped! Thanks for watching
Wow easy to follow, thanks im gonna learn it.
I'm so excited to learn this! You've made a song that I've loved attainable now!
Great tutorial !! Thanks
Rich
Hey, when the music's over in the key of D. I'll give you like idk at least a dollar lol ur awesome dude.
just awesome!
Good job! Thanks for posting bro.
Thanks for the tutorial, nice work man
Great awesome. Thanks
outstanding m8 you rock thanks so much for helping!!!
thanks for the posting...always nice to se love for music.
THANK YOU. EXCELLENT JOB WITH CLEAR AND HELPFUL EXPLANATIONS! KUDOS!
AWESOME
This is an awesome tutorial for a really rich and interesting song. It's pretty tough to combine the bass line with the chord voicings if one is trying to learn this (accurately!) on guitar.
Thanks
Thanks man, I don't as of now but i'll look into it and try to teach it soon. -Paul
Extremely Helpful!! Thanks a lot!!
+Carol Denning thanks for watching! Glad it helped!
Hey Paul... Bro!!! That's an extremely nice (and generous) tutorial. You really put together the most important parts of learning a new song in what I think is the most efficient way possible. The only thing I wanted to note was that there is a chord being voiced significantly differently than His Highness McDonald does (I really dig that dude!). It's at the end of the pre-chorus where the lyrics goes "things you're gonna' do for me." When you get to the five (G) on "for me," that's actually a 4 over 5 (F right hand over G left hand). Just being more clear for anyone reading the comments who doesn't know what I mean. Generally speaking, stay away from that B natural in this song (in this key, at least) to keep the black gospel sound. :) But man, nice work, though... thank you for posting!
Awsome tutorial man, this kinda reminds me of a Billy Joel style of playing a little. Anyway great job on teaching man, i was playin this is just under an hour. Thanks and peace friend.
nice job
Very good
@UFONightHawk Thanks, glad you got it so quick! Thanks for watching
Great video! Wondering though, where/when to use sustain pedal? Thanks much!
Thanks for the tutoring session Paul! I learned more from you.
Namste!
So when is your next gig?
Ron
Thanks!
no worries man, glad to help!! I love this song. Thanks for watching! (Subscribe!!)
did you figure this out by ear? i was able to pretty much get everything but the chorus on my own, but you filled in the part of the song i was missing. thank you sir!
Ive seen 3-4 lessons on the intro / verse chords and they're all different. I suspect its because MM played it a few different ways in the same song
Cool
Great stuff. Do you have one for Black Magic Woman by Santana
Hey, I have watched this over and over. Actually bought the sheet music but I like yours best. I am a visual person and have been playing since I was 4 years old. I laughed and cried, that I found someone that could explain and show me what was actually happening.GREAT tutorial. BTY. You have some great feet. I studied art at university and I drew hands and feet. I received an A for my drawings as feet and hands are the most complicated. I thank you for your information and skills. Also who would have thought it PEG? One of my favorites. Or as we say in the south (Tennessee) who'd a thunk it?..You have to say it fast to get the true vernacular of the peasantry. BIG FAN! Thanks. Dave Toronto Canada. Cheers
Thanks for the comment, Dave! I am visual learner too, so I wanted to teach in a way that I would want to learn. Glad it worked for you!
Thanks Paul, Keep teaching . Visually and show those big feet. I am a small man and wonder how one carries those feet. LOL Keep teaching my friend. Cheers from Toronto CA. Dave
You will always be Paul Gogan to me. With vibrant colours of learning. Thank you for your talent. Cheers. David Toronto
video starts at 0:55. Good tutorial but after watching it a few times and trying to figure out why it was so hard to watch, I finally realized, the shadows on the keys make it hard to see what key is being pressed. An overhead light would have really helped this. Also, say what chord names are and the inverions. Doesn't matter if people don't know what that is, they need to learn it. "which is a D uhhh and a G uh.... and a uh B" = G Maj 2nd inversion!!!!!!!
Niiice!
Do you have a PayPal or something for tips? I really like your teaching style, and you should be paid for your time. Thank you 👍🎶
eight years later.. thankyou
wow. can't believe it has been that long! thanks for watching!
@jcowan001 no problem, and you're right but i think it's the last chord in the prechorus (or maybe it's both). Thanks for watching!
Paul you do a get job of displaying and how to finger the chords and riffs. Better than most I have viewed. Keep up the great work!
Nino
Thanks Nino! I come from learning a lot of songs on UA-cam myself so I teach the way I'd want to learn! glad you liked it - I appreciate the comment!
that's a great one too...i'll have to look into it. but i can try! Thanks for Watching! (Subscribe!)
request 'it keeps you running'
ty
You have a lot of nice bass in the pre-chorus 3:50 what do you use for speaker setup?
Thanks William - I love that bass too. It's on my Peavy KB2 keyboard amp - amazing range of low to high
Busboys "the boys are back in town "
no problem! thanks for watching!!
Dont know if you're still on here but you know busboys "the boys are back in town" from 48 hours the movie
You're awesome!! I know two opening of songs. This and when the music's over. My dad showed me this one and he's gone now so I'm going to learn the rest now with your help. Me and dad can't thank you enough! Ramon Penney Music on UA-cam if you get bored😄
Do you possibly know busboys the boys are back in town
takes a full minute for the guy to actually start
yeah, this guy talks WAY too much
