Stumbled upon this lesson looking for the chords to the song, stuck around and learned a lot more, thanks!

I don’t bother to learn what chord it is. But I’m trained (3 yrs) of piano…can sight read (slowly) but don’t need to know chords. I just remember chord shapes and patterns and sequences

Most of the amateur sight readers I’ve know are a bit out of time when placed in a band. For fun, I’d occasionally play by ear. With a metronome

At 11:50, I believe that you are incorrect. You are playing a 1st inversion Dm7 (F, A, C, D) with the G bass in left hand. I believe if you listen to the song you'll actually hear an F6 in the right hand and it is achieved by also dropping the A to a G, so F, G, C, D in the right hand. Play it , then listen to the recording, you'll hear the same thing. P.S. No charge for the lesson ..... ;)

You’re 100% correct. I suppose we’d call that chord a G11omit9. There are other names we can give it as well, such as F6sus2/G. Good catch!

      @@anthonyrobertnewett There's no B, so it's simply a G7sus.

You make this far too difficult to understand.

Hi! It is a constant learning curve for me to figure out the best ways to teach something like this. As you may have gathered by my referencing the name "Cedric" in some of these videos, I am supplementing an in-person lesson that I am giving to one of my students, who tends to get a little lost at home without additional guidance. The video is to serve as a reminder of the things we went over at the lesson. The lesson is very specific to the technique he and I are working on at the moment. This may explain some of the difficulty you're having. This lesson presumes that you already understand some things. Having said this, I'd be happy to address some of your specific needs. Feel free to write back!

This isn't a video about how to play the song as much as it's about understanding the tonal relationships between the key of the song and all the substitutions. This is a theory lesson and a good one.

I totally disagree that this method makes it difficult. The keyboard is clear, and the chords are listed above. Yes, maybe more theory than some of us are looking for, but....

. . . at the expense of teaching the full song.
