Work Begins on Fleetwood Fish Park | Project Neptune

- There's diggers, pile drivers and big trucks as work begins on Fleetwood Fish Park | Project Neptune. It's improving facilities for the fish processing industry in Fleetwood. This walk around video begins at the Three Lights pub car park, looking across this site, then walk past the plot of land where the Fish Park will be built.
The Fish Park and Project Neptune is a Wyre Council project. They've secured £4m from the government's Getting Building Fund - a pot of £900m designed to kickstart regeneration in areas worst hit by Covid. They're calling this regeneration work Project Neptune. It's the same fund which the Houndshill Extension and Abingdon Street Market in Blackpool have secured funds from.

The improvements to Fleetwood Dock are being made between the Ice Factory and the Three Lights pub car park. The plot of land adjacent to the A585 Amounderness Way is where the new commercial units for fish processing will be built (the fish park as it's known). Plus car parking, servicing and waste provision.

Another plot of land actually adjacent to the land, on the other side of Dock Avenue, will see improvements including the removal of the suspended quay and creation of a natural revetment. Existing warehouses will be demolished and some car parking space will be created.

Thank you, Jane. This is a very interesting and educational video to share with my grandson. It's good to see that Fleetwood is having a multi- million pound investment, where new jobs will be created at a fish processing plant. Very sad to see the loss of its fishing industry and those poor men, who lost their jobs...I hope they managed to find alternative work.

I was there a couple of weeks ago the weather was wet, at a shop in Affinity, the Mrs got a bargain the offer was not on in Birmingham at the same shop so we all went home happy, I met a guy who was sightseeing the same as me he used to work for the fishing fleet and said where we are standing now there would have been 100s of people working unloading the fish, now there was nothing! They were draining one of the docks at the back of Affinity....Thank You.

A wonderful boost for Fleetwood and hopefully this will mean more jobs for people living here. At the end of a peninsula people can easily feel they are forgotten but projects like this showing investment confidence are good for morale. There is also more and more hope that the area will be re-connected by rail which would bring more people in and further help the economy.
It is a shock to hear that the fish are trucked in for processing and auction. I remember seeing porters an Billingsgate Market in London carrying round baskets of fish on their heads with *Fleetwood* stencilled on them as well as *Grimsby* I think. That was many decades ago during my explorations in my lunch hour. The fact that this investment comes to Fleetwood instead of a major city industrial area is important to note, in many cases a town which loses the source of its former major income suffers dramatically.
I also enjoy construction sites and the development progression, if possible it would be really good to see occasional updates on this project. Thank you VFC so much for travelling here to bring this to our screens.

I loved seeing all of that wonderful lavender. Any idea what variety it is? I lost all of my lavender to old age and to last year's...bitterly... cold winter. I should have fleeced over it. However, I've bought two new pots and I'm determined to look after it with heaps of fleecing this time. I'm also growing these in pots until they are hardy enough to be transplanted into our managed clay soil...with an abundance of grit and sand added. Lovely to hear Fleetwood's crickets are in their element... chirping away, amongst such beautiful surroundings. Fleetwood's future is looking interesting!
What is fish park? Is that like a aquarium place?
No, it’s a business park where they only trade in fish. Don’t know why it’s known as a park really
