      @@mikey4016 The current cost for the 2 Plus is $250. To use other materials, given where it is manufactured, and the profit margin already set by the company; they would never be able to sell enough to justify the cost of stainless, much less titanium. Also, titanium is weak in comparison to steel. Titanium is for people who want to save as much weight as possible.
      As for the paint and rust:
      I NEVER use water to clean it. I use “orange wipes” that are found everywhere for cleaning. I scrub with those because they tear before they could hurt the paint. They also make cleaning very fast. However, they are acidic (all citrus smelling cleaning products are). That means that it will eat through the paint over time.
      The goal is the keep it clean and do a thorough cleaning after EVERY trip or weekend use. If rust ever shows, I’ll use high temp paint that I already bought. I’ve had mine for months, use it for grilling and campfires, and it looks almost new. At the cost we pay; I’m going to baby it for as long as I can.
      You take care of the things you love. 👍

    Man, to all these people complaining about how the fan unit doesn’t charge itself:
    1. Adding thermo-electric generator would increase cost significantly.
    2. More features electronically means more parts, and more parts means more things likely to break/malfunction. Sometimes keeping it simple is best.
    3. The charge unit already lasts a long time. I own one of these and the fan uses very little energy so the charged up unit lasts a VERY long time. Over two whole nights with constant use.

      @@PeterKnagge I don’t think you’re an idiot. My comment was more towards the people who rip on Biolite for not adding the self-charging as if Biolite is the idiot. Let’s say they did add a thermo electric generator but it fails or costs too much, then people would complain about the price or that its unreliable. They’ve done their R&D and there is a reason why it’s not made available.

      @@PeterKnagge Fair enough. On a related topic regarding charging options, allow me to share the method I use to keep the unit going for multiple days. On a full charge I generally get two full nights of continuous fan use. To extend use into multiple days, I bought a small aftermarket 30w solar panel-has more than 3x the surface area than the panel that comes with the Biolite solar cover. Wayyy faster than their accessory cover. With full sun in the day, this allows me to recharge if low on juice and it keeps the unit topped off. Not useful if you camp when it’s overcast but been very effective for me so far.

      @BioLiteChannel  2 роки тому +4

      Hi! Great question. The FirePit does not have a TEG and that's on purpose. The FirePit's design is to radiate heat outward, offering the rolling flames of a typical campfire. BaseCamp and CampStove are designed to concentrate flames and heat, making it ideal for thermoelectric conversion. If we put thermoelectrics in the FirePit, you'd get very little electricity relative to the size of the fire and it would cost upwards of $500-$700 - we didn't want to just do tech for tech's sake. The FirePit+ airflow pack detaches easily and with runtimes of up to 30 hours per charge, you can recharge easily at home or from a BioLite SolarPanel or powerbank in between use.

      Hey, thanks for reaching out! If you are going to use FirePit+ on a deck, we recommend using our FireMat accessory which deflects heat and can protect sensitive surfaces (www.bioliteenergy.com/products/firepit-firemat)
      As for cooking, we have a cast-iron griddle that is designed to fit on top of the FirePit perfectly so you get the most even temp distribution (www.bioliteenergy.com/products/firepit-griddle) but we definitely have seen customers using their own cast-iron on the unit. We would just caution anyone to make sure the skillet is properly balanced and that you don't overbuild your flames (not good for cooking anyway and the flames can lick out from under).
