Well done. The only thing missing is that when there's no sun to activate the charging cover/carrying bag and the FirePit battery is low, the FirePit battery can be recharged using another BioLite product. This is important if you're off the grid, since the FirePit does not self-charge.
Hey Mike, GREAT question. After conferring with our engineers, the overwhelming consensus is "YES, you should let the jets do their job." 😉 Thanks for bearing with our repetition - sometimes just gotta try and drive a point home.
We really like your videos. Very informative. My wife ask me a question about which BioLite product charges quickest, or produces the most electricity? Is it the Camp Stove 2, BioLite BaseCamp, or BioLite FirePit? Many thanks, Harold
Hey Adam! Yup, paper and kindling can be used. For charcoal, both lighter fluid or a chimney can be used - if you use lighter fluid, do so carefully/sparingly (don't want fluid in the jets) and if you use a chimney just make sure the diameter isn't larger than the opening of the burn chamber or else it won't fit (that's 7") -- thanks for writing in!
We don't recommend it (don't want you putting a powerbank near a hot fire -- our airflow pack is housed in high-temp glass filled nylon so it's built to withstand hot temps, but we can't speak to what other third party chargers are made of) - thanks!
Nicely done. Looking forward thato using it. One thing that is *now* obvious, unlike the original biolite camp stove, it seems that the fire doesn't charge the battery. That might be worth making a bit more explicit (assuming its true), as its a bit surprising for stove users
Hey Keith, thanks for your comment - we mention this several times across our FAQ, Live Demos, and campaign, we'll be sure to incorporate some more explicit mentions on the product page as well. Thanks!
This was made abundantly clear on Kickstarter and everything else I've seen (except this video). If you'd seen anything about the firepit before, I'm surprised you'd bring this up.
Just received my firepit today. My 4 year old Samsung Galaxy S10 is apparently too new and it won't download the app. I get the feeling that I just bought a product that you no longer support and are probably going to discontinue.
A minor point: The video references the BioLite app, but has the upgrade not been released for the iPhone yet? The iPhone app hasn't been updated in 8 months.
Curious how much ash will fall out of the bottom during regular use? Or does it burn most of it off and only a small amount remains- hence the access door? We would like to build a stone or concrete table with a recess for it to sit in for our back poolside deck!
So do I. Make sure it's clean, dry and cool and store it INSIDE your house - that is, in an area served by your heating system. You can't keep the salt air out but rust needs moisture like BioLite Firepits need air! Inside of my house normally runs about 50% rel. humidity - too dry for rust to form. But anything down in the garage is fair game!
Does the Firebit Battery Pack on the side charge itself while i'm having a fire burning? Or do i must charge it by an external power source? Because i want a 100% way to use it without any other power source far of the grid!
Hey Miguel - The FirePit's power pack doesn't charge itself up from the heat of the fire but you can get the Solar Carry Cover which can charge it up via the sun.
my only issue i feel the fire does not give out enough radient heat from the sides. on a cold day you really need to be sitting almost on the fire to warm up
Why does this not charge any from the heat of the fire like the other little firepit does? It would make sense for their to be a button to enable Bluetooth instead of it always burning juice for it
Hi Robert, CampStove, BaseCamp, and HomeStove feature a thermoelectric generator that produces electricity from the heat of the fire. The FirePit does not - and that's on purpose. If we included thermoelectrics in a design of this scale, the unit would cost upwards of $400-$600 and we didn't want to just do tech for tech's sake. Realizing that we wanted the system to still be self-reliant and self-charging, we opted for a solar cover as a companion to the unit. We really want this project to be affordable to as many folks as possible and this was the right energy solution for it. The 10,400 mAh battery can offer up to 24 hours of airflow, so the intended use case is: you burn throughout a weekend and then toss the cover on for it to recharge during the week. You can also always recharge it in the car, at home, etc, and since this is more intended for beach, cabin, backyard, etc your access to an outlet is a bit more reliable than a backcountry trip (which is why the CampStove/BaseCamp have TEGs). Lastly, the FirePit is designed to radiate heat, not concentrate it (which is why we have the x-ray mesh benefit), so its intended use and benefit puts it at odds with TEG optimization. Hope that helps clarify.

Hi! The powerpack should stay connected to the unit while the fire is going so the fan can continue to circulate air and improve combustion. When the firepit is not running, you can detach the powerpack by pressing the quick-release button located on the top of the yellow unit.
I am confused, why go off in a tangent to your other products. When I first saw a larger model I was thinking awesome a 110V charging model, but..instead..it just blows air and is another battery to charge. If you want reduced smoke just baton your wood into smaller pieces and used the fire ring at your campsite and get a coghlans pack grill to cook over. You're Biolite, "Outdoor & Off-Grid Energy" according to your website, should have stuck a big ol' battery charger on this thing IMHO.
We got our "fix kit" today and the battery pack now fits correctly. I hope that in the next generation you're able to tweak the design or make sure the manufacturer is better at perfecting their tolerances so no grill has an issue with the power pack fit. At this point, I think you should just include a "fix kit" out with each grill and instructions about when and how to it.
Hi Dali113, did you press the power button once on the Airflow pack to make sure the system was on and able to receive connection? If you already tried that, you can do a hard reset to the FirePit by pushing a paper clip into the small hole just under the micro-USB charge-in port. If neither solution works, please let us know, we'll figure out what's going on -- thanks

Just got mine this week and have used it twice. Love it! Thanks for the pro tips.
Thanks, Wendy! We're so glad you're enjoying it!
I CANNOT wait for mine to arrive, it has shipped now.
Edit #1: it is out for delivery today, YES!
Love it! Even the quality of this company’s instructional videos are 11 out of 10
Mine is on the way. Ordered the griddle and it arrived today.
Thanks, guys! Stellar job as usual. Can't wait for it to get here!
I know it;s old but this is the best video I have seen on the Firepit.
Well scripted and directed. Top-notch voice talent, too. Easy to watch and listen to. So rare in videos like this.
Awesome video! Stoked to run it through its paces!
Thanks, Sean!

+1 very good point
Received my BioLite about 3 weeks ago. I'm finally going to get a chance to fire it up (pun intended) this coming weekend. Thanks for the video!
Great Video, can't wait to use what I learned when it shows up!!
Thanks, Philippe!
I wonder if I should be letting the Jets do their job?
Hey Mike, GREAT question. After conferring with our engineers, the overwhelming consensus is "YES, you should let the jets do their job." 😉
Thanks for bearing with our repetition - sometimes just gotta try and drive a point home.
Thanks for the thorough video. Can't wait to get mine in.
Thanks so much for watching!
Great video! I'm looking forward to doing an independent review very soon.
Excellent and informative video! Looking forward to my pre-order!!

I assume that paper and kindling can be used as an appropriate fire-starter? If using charcoal can you use lighter fluid or would a chimney be better?

Great! Thanks!
The two things who make me not to buy it is no heat recharge battery and the corrosion. I hope a second version will come in steinless steel.
wow you folks are awesome Im bursting with excitement ! ..

Looking good guys!
Great vid guys .... winston is mega cool
" Honey, tomorrow we're going camping, don't forget to charge the bbq !" lol
Good video and not too long. Any charcoal preferences for these units?

We're pushing live shortly -- it will be live by the time FirePits go out for delivery. Thanks!

Just ordered the grilling kit
Perfect presentation
I live near Ocean. Any recommendation for rust proofing? That is a common problem.
So do I. Make sure it's clean, dry and cool and store it INSIDE your house - that is, in an area served by your heating system. Oh okay, thank you for the fast reply, so is their a product you guys offer which charge itself from the heat (or a bit different)? :)
Yes - our CampStove 2 creates electricity from the heat of the fire.
my only issue i feel the fire does not give out enough radient heat from the sides. on a cold day you really need to be sitting almost on the fire to warm up
Will I be able to connect both my Fire Pit and Base Lantern to the app at the same time?
Why does this not charge any from the heat of the fire like the other little firepit does?
It would make sense for their to be a button to enable Bluetooth instead of it always burning juice for it

App doesn't work, too old, and no update.
The app doesn't install on Android!
Please reach out to us at support@bioliteenergy.com so our team can help troubleshoot with you!
Poor quality. Airflow pack does not fit the bracket, the cooking grate does not sit flush on one end and cosmetic blemish.
Hey David, someone from the support team will be in touch, want to make sure you have a properly functioning unit. Thanks
