  • In this video, I test and compare the downforce that each shallow water anchor makes. I also discuss some of the factors that play into this along with why it is important.
    This video series is designed to inform the viewer on a variety of topics that can play a role in choosing which shallow water anchor is best for their use. I plan to post a video per week on a number of different topics. Subscribe to see full video series!

    That’s probably the most useful video I’ve ever seen for shallow water anchors

    In my experience, I could put my boat into the wind (open water) with Talons down and the boat would not move. If I do that exact same scenario with Power Poles, the boat will twist and move to where front of boat is now down wind. Raptors are insane, my Dad has them on a 522d on Lake Erie. Sweet video

      Interesting! I do think that in most conditions, the Raptors I have now do a better job at holding the boat than the Talons I used to have. What model of Power Poles did you have before the talons?

      @@blakekniesfishing501 So i currently have blade power poles and I had 12' Talons before that. Only reason I removed the Talons was because I had one fail on me and get stuck. For that first year without them, I missed them because they worked so well in comparison.

    I'm curious to see how the downforce readings of the Power Pole and Raptor vary at different positions as it's traveling to full extension. I'd suspect both the Power Pole and Raptor would have higher downforce reading the closer the anchors get to full extension; just my assumption though. Would you be willing to make a video demonstrating this?

    • @blakekniesfishing501
      @blakekniesfishing501  Рік тому

      That would be an interesting test. I'm not sure how to set it up for the different heights though. Ill have to think on that one!

    Awesome video!! Can you make one of jack plates and props? I been told my ranger 2013 rt178 with a 75hp evinrude that is currently cruising at 35-38 and tops out at 40-42 can gain 5mph just by switching from my 15p alum prop to a 17p ss and I could gain even more if I add a jack plate…. Don’t know if this is all true and would love a good video on the subject

      I do want to make a prop comparison video! Switching from an aluminum to stainless prop will definitely help though! Since stainless steel is stronger than aluminum, the blades can be made thinner and create quite a bit less drag in the water. There are of course differences in prop shapes though and that gets very complicated very quickly lol

    Just out of curiosity, I wonder if changing the sensitivity settings in the raptor (one boat network app) produces even more downforce? I know it does more on the up - to help get out of deep mud, but not sure on the down!

      I went out and messed with it and it didn't seem to affect it. Turning it down did lower the force, but only once it got really low, like around 6 or 7. Interesting as I thought it would have changed it.

    • @blakekniesfishing501
      @blakekniesfishing501  Рік тому

      I could do that at the end. It would be hard though cause every boat setup/personal use is different so there would be a lot of variables to account for!

    I've had my 12' Talons for 6 years now and when I took off the top of one to lubricate down inside, I notice the cable that works the Talon inside has a couple of broken strands. I'm worried about longevity (a major operation to replace cables from a video I saw (I have 2 new cables just in case))

    • @blakekniesfishing501
      @blakekniesfishing501  Рік тому

      Definitely something to keep an eye on and you are definitely right about them being a pain to replace! Mine frayed when they were almost new cause the tension wasn’t adjusted properly from new, but they were thankfully still under warranty.

    • @blakekniesfishing501

    • @blakekniesfishing501

      That would be a good comparison. The talons I had would drive me nuts in some bottom compositions. I would think the raptors would be best for this. Not sure if their actual retraction force is higher, but the fact that they keep trying to come up after they get stuck is very helpful. Probably my favorite feature of them.
