Ok, I have to say that we are seeing a very experienced McGyver in the field who want's to do good for the local residents around New Bedford. I've managed maintenance crews and Steve is simply doing what must be done to be honorable. He's not replacing, he's repairing. In these days of "dispose and buy new" he's simply bringing these central air units to their full potential. Kudos to him.
Dang Steve another outstanding job, when the video first started I thought both the contactor and capacitor were toast. I really liked how you explained the price for the R22, you could have pitched the new unit line, but you didn't. Class act friend, that's why I follow!
Steve, You scared the crap out of me when you pulled core out!
LOL
I never saw him move that fast!
The old skid mark...
“ It’s completely empty”. PPPOWWWW🤣🤣🤣
That shrader was one for the books! That's the kind of job that separates the men from the boys! Great job Steve! You can't stop a Goodman!!!
I have a 25 year old Goodman and still running strong. I do yearly maintenance like cleaning the coils and make sure connections are snug. Looking to get another 25 years out of the SOB. If it croaks then another Goodman will replace it! Easy to get parts for it and parts are reasonably prices...not like those overpriced Tranes!!!
Dick, I would suggest thinking of another 25 years as an aspirational goal and not a realistic one. One of my kids bought a house with and old Goodman and I’ll keep it running as long as I can but when it cooks it gets one of the ICP brands, Heil, Comfortmaker, Tempstar, etc.
The Goodman evaporator coils just leak to damn much for me. And yes I know other manufacturers had their share of trouble with coils when 410a came along. I just saw too many Goodman’s fail to early. I have had less trouble with Goodman condensers.
ICP also has reasonable and readily available parts I’m my area.
i got my mom a goodman ladt year to replace a 30 year old lennox.
Just when Steve says no gas in this thing it comes shooting out, made me jump on that one Steve 😂
I love the way he brings them back. I ran HVAC for a company that owned 400 mobile homes rent to own. I made a lot of things happen for them mostly the one buying from them. I changed a lot out repaired a lot of them.
Those crimpers are for non-insulated terminals. And when you do use that style of crimper, turn it over so the indention in the terminal is on the bottom side as the top side has a seam. Good job getting that old R22 system back in service!
This is why Steve's videos are the best, you can see everything he does and it's like being there watching him work. It's great to see him fool around with that schrader for 6 minutes! Same thing happened to me before I thought I was just terrible with my core remover. And that geyser was awesome, nobody else going to show you that because they're scared of liability. Steve knows it was necessary to do. True Professional!
Another good one Steve. If you came to my house, you would find the same unit, same make and same year but mine is a four ton. Perhaps the difference is that mine, along with the unit upstairs, is serviced twice a year by the company that installed it in 2005 and it runs like a champ.
Steve has completely changed my mind about Goodnan a/c Condensors! I know Ted is eat up with Trane, but I would definitely consider Goodman equipment.
Easy for consumers to get parts also
Steve, I have watched a lot of of your content. Love it! I can relate to the difficult Schrader valve replacement. Good job! Keep the vids comming!
This lady doesn’t know how lucky she is to have Steve . I think anyone else would have just quoted her for a new unit.
Where I live no doubt a repairman would turn up his nose at repairing it and quoted on a new unit.
@@MSDOGS1976 you must live in the same town as I do. That’s why I fix everything myself if I can!
@@Samlol23_drrich I know nothing about nothing. I'm SOL.
Great work Steve in capping that suction line explosion with the Appion!
I live in okc I wish I could find a guy like Steve seems everyone just wants to sell you a complete system make a quick buck especially the younger techs, they don’t wanna even mess with it lazy
Hello Steven from South Africa. You're videos are so entertaining. Hello Miss Molly. Keep up the good work.
Great job Steve, Top Shelf HVAC all the way. wow you spent some time on that unit they are fortunate with all those issues it was still good to go.
Very nicely done !
I have never had luck with crimped only connectors, I only crimp, solder, and gel shrink wrap. Belt and suspenders guy. Lolol😊
Wow amazing video
I love This channel ❤️❤️❤️
Seeing that R22 come out after the schrader core was pulled I was like "Yeehaa!"
thats what i said also
My neighbor gave me a handful of SS zip ties. They would be handy for HVAC work.
That was like making pork roast with pig shit, lol. Nice job saving it. Other contractors in my town laugh at me for making those type of repairs and not selling new. We are a dying breed.
Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again y’all. 👍👍. I always get a kick out of Miss Molly sitting next to you, looking out the window and watching the world pass by. 😀. That’s the most care that system has been given in a very long time, great job Steve.
I bet you’ve seen everything there is to see with cooling, heating and plumbing. Next level mama!
A wizard stripping those wires and crimping those connectors. Saved the homeowner a ton of money 💰👍.
Great Job. Never heard of a capacitor reading too high like that. Maybe the 5ufd part internally shorted to the 55ufd part?
@@CactusBobsPlace thanks - good point. Not really any way for a cap to dramatically increase it capacitance....
@@CactusBobsPlace Do you know if these AC run/start caps hold a charge after the power is off? DC - obviously they would, but AC?
@@throttlebottle5906 His multimeter only has the one capacitor setting - and I believe it says "μF"
yes the fan side read 55 uf so i added a single to run the fan .. i checked it 2 times i did not mess up .compressor side was still good so i used it i did not have a 55/5 duel run cap in truck i did have a 50/ 5 but did not want to down grade the cap
@@joeylawn36111 No, the run caps are discharged by the motor windings in this application
If the seller avoids your question...THEREIN lies your ANSWER! (Looks like "Fluffy" has been smoking in bed re: that wiring). Steve`s summer pants look like "clam-diggers"...perfect for the surf and sand!
Good save Steve.👍 Once you tidied up the wiring shitshow did you measure the compressor running current?
I've developed what my family calls Grandpa Lloyd syndrome! It's easier to go to the hardware store and but new parts than it is to find what I already have!. LOL
That’s what I tell people when they ask why I don’t save nuts and bolts. I have a large collection all sorted at Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowe’s etc. why would I save and look through all that crap?
“It’s completely empty”. Famous last words
What a pain man !!
OMG there goes the Ozone momma next level
That was crazy awesome! Glad it wasn’t hot either, coulda been bad news. Question tho, do u need to add oil because of leak and the stuff that came out?
Best video 2021 so far...
That contactor seen better days, and what was told to me with certain valve core removers if you tighten down to much the o-rig grabs the Schrader!
BUT THE GUY WHO BRAISED THAT IN COOKED THAT CORE.🍺🍺🍺🥃🥃🍿🏌🏻♀️
Stay safe.
Retired (werk'n)keyboard super tech. Wear your safety glasses.
Good fix Steve. Interesting vlog with all you had to do to get it running. She should be very happy, How much r22 did it take?
3 1/2 lbs of r22
@@stevenlavimoniere Way cheaper than a new system!
Darn right it will run if Steve is on the job.
All I can say is, You da man! Thanks for the lesson.
I love how Steve says "microfarads" hahah
My fav is: ... got to check the chawwwrge. 👍
It's proly goin off on high pressah
Them micro-ferrets got out and chewed the wiahs.
We didn’t hear Steve asking if she changed the FILTAH
Best ac video of the year!
I use long needle nose on old cores . But excellent job doing right by the helicopter lady .
You can order those off Amazon believe it or not...nice job. Awesome stuff
You should’ve check to see if someone put a tire Schrader core in the valve
I usually have pretty good success with the YJ core removal tool, needing 1 to 3 tries. I'll bet that core was over-tightened and stripped the threads on the core. Hopefully the threads in the service port are still good.
I’ll have the fried wires and parts. Hold the soup 🍲 😂😂🤘
Great Fix Lav.
Excellent 👍👍👍👍👍
Afternoon Steve!
I thought that Schrader core had beaten you, but I should have known better! Great work Steve and thanks for so many interesting videos.
What do u think of the bluon tdx 20 as a R22 replacement to keep these old units going? Seems can buy r22 inside evaporators still. Not sure what the availability of new r22 compressors and new outdoor condensor coils is
I would have replaced the other Schrader valve as well. They are both the same age and condition.
That lady was very fortunate because most anyother contractor would have told her she needs a new system and wouldn't repaired that one!
Wonder if the last guy ran their gages down too far and destroyed the shrader core. since it was leaking bad and had a lot of trouble coming out.
I wonder why you didn’t close the service valve to change the schrader core? Good job overall, also I would have checked the voltage drop across the contactor
Steve and Molly to the rescue...👍👍
So did they decided to get the Freon and get it fully working can’t imagine the bill but great job guy
As you would say "What a Sh-t show" interesting video
As much time as you spent on the contactor, I would change out the $10 contactor. Keep the videos coming.
Damn she has a voice on her
yep, I noticed that same thing... poor Steve having to listen to her
Lawn Guyland
Yeeeeehaaaaa mama. Jesus i even got startled when that refrigerant came out
Love seeing you revive those Ted Cook specials, Can't Stop a Goodman Momma!
ted cook loves Goodman
You're a good man Steve.
You left that contactor???
🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️👍🏼
Hello from the great state of Michigan
Next freak'n level Mama! You the man.
Looks like Stevie will be getting some rain over the weekend.
ok steve, you have been doing this awhile, great stuff. but we need to see an outro stay well......ps give miss molly a treat for me
Its hard to find honest AC techs. They come out 1st thing they start in with this unit is old should replace. Like I'm going to spend $6,000 to save $300.
I would just replace with copper cap and stop the leak. Simple and easy, I am not gonna wast my time just replace the pin/core. I would run Freon detector indoor since R22 is easy to smell. I would bate leakage might be evaporator coil. This type/style of Goodman condenser was made in early/mid 2000s. So the coil is about time to give up.
Miss Molley looks Happy !!! ❤
That was a de minimis release :)
I was thinking the same thing 😉
Nice job and video like always ( Steve )
Hi sir i use the hillmor removal tool it works great for me good job man and have a good weekend
system was built in 2005 July...
Hi miss molly and steve! Hope you enjoyed the rain today. Was passing through Worcester MA and it was a shit show mamma!
how much refrigerant did you have to put in it?
Nice hat 👍
Nice Milwaukee head gear Steve…. Nothing but heavy duty momma!!
my local ruud dealer gave me the hat
1:28 she's a crispy one. . .
OH MOMMA..... that was something. Looked like Old Faithful side ways.
Nice job saving the ladie’s system.
That’s a neat trick with the crimp ons
Nice job Steve
I think Steve said a bad word..HolySh!t when the shrader core blew out lmao.I like how he broke it to her gently R22 x 6lbs = $600.00 plus the repairs going once lady...going twice...sold lol.gets them over the sticker shock in a hurry..I bet it's around $5000 for just the unit up north.
Some idiots would tell them that they need a new unit
steven lavimoniere the contactor wasn't welded shut was it
Next level!!
Damn kids huffing that R22 again!!!!!
That'll get the blood flowin!!
$100 a # R-22. She got off lucky cuz hes a one man show. Companies out here in NYC are charging 150# for R-410a. 22 is like 250.
Steve , you made me jump with that one !
Edge of my seat here mama! lol
LMAO. Very entertaining. Thanks.
Next level man
Good job !
Good deal.
way too many ads for the length of this video....UA-cam is getting out of control !
I’m just learning about this stuff, so just asking. Is the s valve in a king valve, and if so can’t you close off the s port by backing out the king valve all the way?
king valves do not have a shrader core you have to back seat them to shut port off
The valve in what you saw will shut off flow but you will always have pressure on one side or the other when it is back seated or front seated.
So, if both valves work, you could close the line side of the suction valve, run the compressor for a short time, and close either side of the high side valve. This would probably risk damaging the compressor, but it would isolate a smaller amount of R22. Don’t know if this would result in less loss.
That is called a pump down and works too
Milwaukee hat? Did cowboy ted give you that?
I'm a HVAC tech in Canada and we don't charge 100 bucks a pound for R22 !!!
How much do you charge? $200?
Some of us like to make a living.🤷♂️
@@dyershvac5884 It sounds like a real good living to me.
My cost here in FL as a contractor is about $1k a jug now.. I’m charging 85/ lb
