I play the French horn and it's weird how every time I play the solo I thought it needed work. Turns out it did I liked the sound of the horn there and the trombone part was actually heard for once. Where the hell was the trumpets placed
AwesomeASMG 101 you're welcome! I also highly recommend SmartMusic for practice sessions. In case you haven't heard of it, it gives you a ton of options, genres, and even choral and orchestral pieces. All of Frank Ticheli's selections are on there from the recent update. The Great Locomotive Chase is on there, cuz I practiced it a bunch. You can use a metronome, or not, or have the computer play your part along with you. A lot of warm-ups and multiple-tongue exercises are there. Look it up, talk to your BD. You never know; SmartMusic coming from musical stranger may be the future cause of a better band! All the schools in my area use it, last I checked. If you have any other questions, comment on other videos, and I'll try to get back to you.
Bro I’m in middle school (now 8th) and we had to learn this whole song in a month to preform infront of the school, I was the loudest trombone (out of 3 girls) so I had to carry measures 64 and 123 (I think I don’t have the music anymore) and it sucked. But this was cool to watch even tho it’s sight reading
My band sightread this and are playing this and oh holy night for chair try-outs. I’m a trumpet and we’re all trying out on 1st part. This song is the easier one because oh holy night is in 12/8. Plus scales.... I hate sharp scales flat scales are easy.
Daniel O'Brien I just said that because I am playing this song now, and I am the only trombone, so I have to try doing sharp, legato, and accent at one time. Great playing!!
Work on tuning. Your G is a bit sharp and your Bb standard tuning may be sharp. Sounds really good though. Played it freshman year and we just got it again this year cause so many people wanted it. You sound great man, just listen around
Dued you should use a better quality mic... But other than that it sounded good we played this song with a few other songs for the final concern of the year... I played the trombone part... You sounded okay! Keep up the work
The glissando shouldn't be articulated and could be brought out more, the trombone "solo" could be a little cleaner, but pretty good for sight reading.
I play tbone too and as constructive criticism it sounds like your instrument is out of tune and it wouldn’t hurt to practice not splatting fortissimo notes. End it wouldn’t hurt to practice not making a gross tone with louder notes or softer nets need to work on a happy medium with good air support and embouchure.
Adam Genez I tried that a month ago when we played Rolling Thunder, and after messing around with different stand angles, it was clear that I can only hear myself playing, and not the rest of the band. That's why I did lap cam. Worst case scenario, I record from my pocket.
My high school band director just gave this to us today for the concert we have in less than 2 weeks, we have 7 trumpets(me included) and only 2 low brass instruments which are trombones. Are band sounds very unbalanced.
Snuklens0 He is playing a trombone, which is built to play lower notes. Or since he is sight reading the piece for the first time, he could be playing the notes an octave lower to make it easier.
Supersage 171 what I meant is why he was playing lower notes than my version, but it was because the orchestra version has higher notes for first trombone.
I have two problems. You sound ridiculously flat, and you must be playing an octave lower. All other problems can be excused, with you saying it was a sightread.
PartyPlace 15 I was actually playing the correct octave. What you hear is what’s on the page. I probably was flat, because high school trombones in general don’t know how to maintain pitch that well while sight reading
Guys stop roasting this guy it literally say sight read in he title
Dominic Phan don’t worry about it. The comments are pretty funny
shout out to the guy who sang instead of the euphonium solo.
Hannah Roisin #BandDirectorLife
Daniel O'Brien Heck ya
the true g
Hannah Roisin ikr😂😂
One time our 1st chair Baritone wasn't there, and I was actually about to play his solo (i play trombone)
Those clarinet and flute solos were really good for a sight read.
Also I've heard concerts worse thqn this
Irl the clarinet part (measure 29) is honestly very difficult for a 1st clarinet if you're in junior or even high school band
your sleep paralysis demon I’m in 7th grade and I played that wasn’t that hard
Huh. You actually hear the trombones. Great job.
Human Interaction Films so true
Human Interaction Films for you lmao mY 6TH GRADE CLASS ALWAYS HEARD THE TROMBONE WITH THE ANNOYANCE FROM ANNOYING PPL :'))))
Human Interaction Films doesn’t it help when the camera’s right by the trombone
wow maybe its because the camera is literally right infront of the bones
Legend has it if you turn your screen upside down his nose becomes an alien head
Evan Laviolette haha very funny.
Not to bad for a sight read
here skip to 3:22, thank me later
khang I’ll just thank you now
khang fav part of the song
As a trombone this is the best part in the song
Thxs!!💚💚
Thx
Damn how close is the trumpet. It sounds like it's right in front of the mic.
Just Because lol that's a compliment to me since I'm a trumpet player well....we're just too loud or to close XD
@@slenderwizzard22 Every trumpet player takes everything as a compliment lmao
I play the French horn and it's weird how every time I play the solo I thought it needed work. Turns out it did I liked the sound of the horn there and the trombone part was actually heard for once. Where the hell was the trumpets placed
LegendCitten02 right next to me!
If it weren’t sight reading
I bet this would sound amazing
Omg you could hear the bassoon at one point😁😱
what? theres bassoon? My band's bassoon cant play for shit then😂 I didnt even know there was even a part for it
It's at like 2:24 your can hear bassoon.
tbh ur band sight reading is better than mine after rehearsing for a month 💀
fr like especially the part where the quarters turn to eigths then sixteenths
theres a video of a guy who had this song as a concert and played it 20x worse so don't worry
Pretty good sight reading, but you really need to tune your trombone.
Aidan you were correct. Our tuba was absent, so we had to take an A from a clarinet; not my favorite...
I actually play one of the trumpet solos in the song! Great job on the trombone!!! Sounds amazing
Ok wow, I'm sorry this video became popular
Daniel O'Brien you guys did good for sight reading but we're working on this song we did better on the sight reading
fms champion
Good for you, do you want a cookie?
Lol they did so much better than my middle school band. For the ‘ha’ and ‘shh’ part we legit just screamed it
Lol thx for the vid! I'm only in 7th grade, but I have to play this hard song. Thanks to you, it is a lot more easier for me to play!
AwesomeASMG 101 you're welcome! I also highly recommend SmartMusic for practice sessions. I have never heard of that but I think it will help me a lot in band. Thanks for the guidance!
same....
AwesomeASMG 101 boy that song was easy
batmankills 100 it is lol
Lord help me we have to play this and I'm only in 7th grade and this is my first year in symphonic band.... we're also playing music from Star wars
Alyssa Parrish lol good luck. I'm in wind ensemble I know how it was back then lol
You can do it sooner or later you will realize it was an easy peice
Alyssa Parrish we have to play it next year, when I'm in sixth grade.
I’m in 7th to and it’s so hard in percussion I got snare drum do I play super fast
Charles Kirby Vlogs don't worry you'll get used to it this is gonna be my second time playing it
So sharp trombone
for the pick a note part, b natural is my favorite for trombones.
Trumpets needed more work back then.
It's a sight read
As someone who did this music before the biggest thing you want to keep an eye on is tuning and tone quality
I used to play the trumpet and we played this in middle school good job
I played this for my middle school honors band and you guys actually didn’t f** up the horn cues at the beginning
Bro I’m in middle school (now 8th) and we had to learn this whole song in a month to preform infront of the school, I was the loudest trombone (out of 3 girls) so I had to carry measures 64 and 123 (I think I don’t have the music anymore) and it sucked. But this was cool to watch even tho it’s sight reading
this is the best thing ever!!!!!! 😍
My band sightread this and are playing this and oh holy night for chair try-outs. I’m a trumpet and we’re all trying out on 1st part. This song is the easier one because oh holy night is in 12/8. Plus scales.... I hate sharp scales flat scales are easy.
I'm the snare in this song and I kept messing up but I feel better now because the snare in this video also messed up
But they sight read it
I played this in the 10th grade it was my absolute favorite we have the best percussionist, Davenport West Drumline
U can't really hear the clarinets when they are supposed to be kinda heard...idrk how to say
The trumpet sounds like a cat
Kevin Inga my ex told me a few years ago that a trombone sounds like a cat getting run over by a dump truck
Daniel O'Brien 😞
I feel like I’m the only kid in middle school playing this song
Your not the only the only one
I am as well. (7th and 8th grade band. I'm and 8th grade percussionist.)
Nope a lot of the good middle school bands play this song I played this as well and I was like 7th grade my first year of playing flute and we got a 1
I’m playing it, I’m in 7th grade symphonic band
The glissando could be longer:-)
Daniel O'Brien I just said that because I am playing this song now, and I am the only trombone, so I have to try doing sharp, legato, and accent at one time. Great playing!!
Daniel O'Brien is by any chance this mr harris have dark skin?
SCHOOLBUS Wisconsin channel if by dark you mean he spent lots of summers on the band field, then yes.
The Gaming Brothers if by dark you mean he spent a lot of summers on the band field, then yes.
Daniel O'Brien lol there's a slight chance we had the same teacher before. Very small though lol
The Legato was perfect on 2:44
It’s pretty okay for a sight read
Nice
Work on tuning. Your G is a bit sharp and your Bb standard tuning may be sharp. Sounds really good though. Played it freshman year and we just got it again this year cause so many people wanted it. You sound great man, just listen around

Guys look up a song called A Prehistoric Suite
The glissando shouldn't be articulated and could be brought out more, the trombone "solo" could be a little cleaner, but pretty good for sight reading.
really not bad for a sight read piece
Ok because the tenor saxophone was getting that shit yesssss best section in band period
I hope this is sight read
Revolutionary King it says it in the title...
So sharp
My chamber band did this song in 5 th grade
Obviously they laugh at the vocals lel.
Were the French hors at they r doo doo?
bassoon squad

Using your phone? Have it on your music stand. I actually filled someone's spit valve with my water and I got his reaction on film
Adam Genez I tried that a month ago when we played Rolling Thunder, and after messing around with different stand angles, it was clear that I can only hear myself playing, and not the rest of the band. That's why I did lap cam. Worst case scenario, I record from my pocket.
Y’all hear that trumpet ?🤣yeaaa we the best instrument there is
Lana Nicole you’ve got the biggest egos as well
every single trumpet stereotypes is correct 😮💨
I play tenor I have the solo in the begining
My high school band director just gave this to us today for the concert we have in less than 2 weeks, we have 7 trumpets(me included) and only 2 low brass instruments which are trombones. Are band sounds very unbalanced.
CT-5736 that’s pretty scary. Usually if that happens, it would make sense to hire a few professionals. We had to do that 5 years ago.
You only have 2 trombones? Not even a tuba? I’d suggest maybe a trombone going to euph or tuba. And maybe a trumpet going to euph or trombone
If possible of course
Sounds like u barely have any clarinoodles
why are your notes lower?
Snuklens0 He is playing a trombone, which is built to play lower notes. Or since he is sight reading the piece for the first time, he could be playing the notes an octave lower to make it easier.
Supersage 171 what I meant is why he was playing lower notes than my version, but it was because the orchestra version has higher notes for first trombone.
Vine -tastic I'm principal chair
Top Viners Too I am second chair
Snuklens0 his trombone wasn’t tuned
what grade was this
Is that 2nd tromone?
Quinlan Hall nope. Principal Bone
Daniel O'Brien what is that?
Sounds like a small bad
I have two problems. You sound ridiculously flat, and you must be playing an octave lower. All other problems can be excused, with you saying it was a sightread.

I really feel like he’s playing an octave lower, it’s too low, especially at 3:22
why so many people hating XD
Sax and Relax who knows?😂
0/10 no tuba
He was absent that day
“Sight read”
