It depends I guess. If by dotted, do you mean uneven? A blues-country song can't be even triplets (shuffle). If I play a gospel song as an even shuffle, then it's wrong. A waltz should be a bit uneven AFIK. I analyzed your metronome's "unevenness" just out of curiosity with Audacity and Excel, and measured a ratio of about 1:1.8. An even shuffle would be 1:2.

@@timothyandrewausten Great! By incorrect, do you mean that swing has a variable spectrum, ie. from triplet to more dotted depending on style?🙂
