You can't beat the Cobb, I have had for a long time and they are without doubt one of the most versatile, economical and best BBQ's out there, I love it ps the results are great too, treat yourself to the rotisserie you won't regret it
I have made a friendly rotisserie that fits the Cobb BBQ. It is quicker and easier to use and has made the spit and prongs for home BBQ’s out of date. This device will accept a medium size chicken for the Cobb.@@CookingandCalm
Wow, I'm only three minutes in and I'm really impressed. This is the best video on this cooker I've seen. I like your calm relaxed tone as well. You have earned a new subscriber! Thank you!
Thank you so much ! Glad you found it helpful. I'm hoping to do some Cobb recipes over the summer...But not today as 50mph winds forecast 🤣. Welcome to the channel 😊👍🌱
Great video and I agree with all of the things that you have said. Two weeks ago we were away in Wales and cooked on the Cobb every evening. Last Weekend I cooked a massive piece of prime rib on the bone using the extension ring. I used heat beads on that occasion. So meat was so full of flavour. I have just bought some cobblestones and I am going to cook a chicken tomorrow using the rack. Jacket potatoes done in the moat (in foil) are out of this world. I see that you also have videos on the instant pot. Another favourite in our house. I recently made a batch of marmalade! Thanks again.
Ah a kindred spirit! It's such a great little gadget isn't it. We're off to Wales this summer and you've reminded me- I need to make room for the Cobb in the car :)
Hi Clare, you are so welcome and thank you. it’s a great little device for outdoor cooking and means you don’t need to have stacks of charcoal - double win!
thanks so much, very inspiring video. I stumbled on this Cobb Oven yesterday and I'm intrigued. I have a weber go anywhere but this definitely seems a scale up.
I got mine about 3 years ago and I love it. I can cook a whole 4-5lb chicken in it with just 11 briquettes. I love my kettle grillls too, but I would use at least 4 times the amount of charcoal (IE, in a 4x10 brick snake) for the same cook on my 18" Weber. Super economical and convenient.
Brilliant! Great tip! I'm always surprised how little known they are here. I've been recommending them to people with allotments to cook on their veg patches :)
If you have a BBQ thermometer with probes, you can easily feed a probe trough the hole in the lid so you can monitor the core temp of your meat without lifting the lid.
Hi just come across your very interesting cobb video I’ve had mine about 8 years and you’ve given me some great ideas never to old to learn can’t wait to get cooking and watch some more of your videos
Glad to help Chris - I was hoping to do some more Cobb cooking videos but we've hit really bad weather here and outdoor cooking might have to wait :) They will return when the sun shines :)
Thanks for the excellent video. I'm researching the Cobb OR a small version of the Weber. Your video really clarifies the different applications. (I may have to invest in both!)
Glad it was helpful! I know what you mean. We have both as they are so different really in how they work. I sometimes think using the word 'bbq' with Cobb isn't quite right. It's more of a portable oven - I love it!
I love m cob for holidays. I found the grill plate to lose the coating fairly easy. That was kind of dissapointing. The grill rack is also great, for example to make chicken wings.
oh yes it's brilliant. That and our little gas stove is just perfect for tent camping. We've made all kinds of things with it. Thanks for stopping by and happy holidays to you.
Just found you on UA-cam,and loved this Video,I have a little Cobb, just wanted to Get some ideas on how to use it,thank you so much, regards Carol,Australia.
Hi Carol and welcome! Thanks so much. I imagine it will be so useful on those hot days out there when you don't feel like full on grilling. I've done a video on chilling out with a summer chicken one-pot and will do some more videos when(if) the sun ☀️ comes out here. If you have any questions I may be able to help with just give me a shout 😊
@@CookingandCalm thank you so much,I did cook a Chicken on it yesterday! I see you have lot's of fantastic Video's on other areas of cooking, will be going thru all of them, take care,& thanks for the reply.
I have made a friendly rotisserie that fits the Cobb BBQ. It is quicker and easier to use and has made the spit and prongs for home BBQ’s out of date. This device will accept a medium size chicken for the Cobb.
Hi David, i've never really found a good Cobb cookbook to be honest. I tend to treat it like I'm cooking on a low hob for this kind of dish and put an oven thermometer inside if roasting a chicken etc then make sure I use an instant read thermometer for any meat/fish just in case. Worth their weight in gold. I did buy the official cookbook years back but they weren't the kind of recipes that I cook in there - if you haven't seen it maybe see if they have a preview on Amazon.
Hi there, in theory yes but it would be so slow that I wouldn't recommend. We tend to. Have on of those little 1 ring butane stoves for a quick cuppa. I just did a bit of research online and If you search on 'Cobb Grill America and Kettle' you'll see a separate 'camp kettle' they do. I've not seen it in person but customer reviews are very good. One person said it's very similar to the Irish brand's "Kelly kettle" which lights with twigs and anything lying around and heats super quickly. I hope that helps.
Susan - this is so intriguing to me. I have thought about this video a number of times since I first saw it. I have a big Weber kettle BBQ as well as a camp stove that we use outdoors. But I can see a number of possibilities with this thing. I’m not sure where it’s manufactured, but it’s quite pricey here - about twice the cost of the Weber. I’m gonna have to think on it and I would love to see it in person. 🤔 🤔 🤔
Yes it’s a bit of an investment - I think it depends so much on what you’re cooking. Here in uk when we’re camping off grid, it’s brilliant as it’s pretty cold and rainy even in the summer sometimes , so we want hot food and soups and can use the cobb wok pan for all of those kinds of things, risotto, stir fry etc with very little charcoal to carry. I also really like it’s part steam, part grill feel for chicken/meat but that’s not for everyone. Hopefully you’ll spot one in the wild when one day we are all more back to normal. It must take all your creativity cooking in that heat over there . Hoping for cooling rains for you all soon
It's manufactured in China, like so many things. But it's a South African design and was originally designed to burn dried corn Cobb's in place of using petrol or paraffin. Great design and so versatile, the premier units are a bit small, best for two people. There is a larger model, the Supreme which is better size for a family
Hi there, yes they've been around for years but not very well known at all. I think I came across them when I was looking up how to hot smoke salmon (which you can also do in the Cobb!). Great little gadget. Bet you could cook up a storm with one on the allotment too!
Hi there, I've never tried that . In theory yes but I suspect it won't get hot enough as the Yorkshire pud likes a very hot oven. If trying, I'd maybe try using a Cobblestone as they get the hottest , or 12 briquettes which I think is the max . Good luck with it
Well, the absolute "cheapest" Cobb is 120 £. My Smokey Joe from Weber I bought for less than 300 Dkr (34 £). Made myself two coal baskets for indirect heating, one can buy them from Weber too at a very affordable price. A wire roast which cost me nothing I in the bottom of it so I won't have to use a lot of coal when barbecuing just for me. So I really got to ask myself if the cheapest Cobb (without any accessories at all) is really worth 3,5 times the price of a Smokey Joe? 🤔🤔 Oh, I almost forgot...they give a 10-year guarantee it won't rust and fall into pieces.
Yes I totally agree, it wouldn't be worth it for the basic version and a kettle or similar would be much better value. It's the multi-cooking side that appeals to me.
You can't beat the Cobb, I have had for a long time and they are without doubt one of the most versatile, economical and best BBQ's out there, I love it

I do really love mine. A more mellow way to cook outdoors

BTW I found mine almost new, barely used for $50. Some people dont take the time to learn how to use them properly and end up selling them cheap.
