a Heartbreaking tour of Mosul 🇮🇶 Former capital of ISIS in Iraq | mE 69

  • I explore the partly destroyed old city of Mosul, in Iraq. Mosul used to be a multicultural city, with Arabs, Kurds and Assyrians living together, but the recent war with ISIS destroyed it... the Kurds and the Assyrians have left, and Mosul multiculturalism is dead.

It is heartbreaking to see what happened to Mosul. When I was a young child, I used to go to the bazaar in Mosul with my family from Erbil and it was a very beautiful city of coexistence between Arabs, Kurds, Assyrians and other minorities. Mesopotamia is the cradle of civilization and it is horrible what has happened here. I can truly say that in my opinion you have one most genuine videos/channel I have viewed. I look forward to your next video.

Honestly it all comes down to government corruption. If the governments wanted to protect the minorities, they could have since the fall of Saddam Hussein. Everyone lived together under Saddam.

The guy who was cooking the masgoof sang to you the beginning of a famous Iraqi song shlonak ainy shlonak in reply to your greeting.which means how are you my eyes ( reference to a beloved)howare you? . You might hear those words a lot in Arabic speaking countries. Like ainy, qalby, hayati .all words of endearment.and when you said masgoof is good he said with spices and lemon it’s delicious.

What a tragedy. The same goes for Aleppo in northern Syria. An even larger, and more ancient city, with a plethora of different peoples. Mosul was one of the wealthiest cities in the world during the 9th-13th centuries. Now it’s just this. A city filled with nothing but demoralized people, with no hope for the future. Corruption and the lack of economic progress will only beget more crazy people in the near future. Especially as we near the tail end or the twilight of the oil age.

Thanks for sharing. I am from Baghdad and my wife is from Mosul. I visited Mosul in April this year and that was my first time in this great city since 1983. I must say it was sad to see how much suffering the city has gone through since the US&UK criminal invasion of 2003.

So hard to be able to re-know my history. I was a teen when the propaganda against Iraq and WMD started. I honestly though Sadaam was an evil person and Iraq pple were horrible. Not anymore. We are waking up to the destruction at will of certain people who don't fit n agenda. Thanks to your videos we know the truth!

2:14 Mosul was liberated by the bass Iraqi army and the popular crowd. America was sending ISIS, any foreign country or not participating in the liberation. Thank you

Mosul is the city where I was born in 1992 and I lived my childhood and youth until I grew up and turned 14 years old in 2006 because of the security situation and terrorism. I emigrated to northern Kurdistan and now I live in Kurdistan, but the good thing is that I am very close to Mosul and I visit it a lot.

I wish you would visit the Al-Zohour neighborhood and also the Bartella neighborhood in the Nineveh Plain in the evening because these are two beautiful cities and the development in them is better than the rest of the cities because you are in Mosul.
