About Empires of the Undergrowth:
"Your queen has set up home beneath a rotting log. She is fat, and vulnerable. Her first brood will need to move quickly if the colony is to survive. Their priority now is to find food, and there is plenty around; but there are other hungry creatures in the undergrowth. The workers will need to be vigilant."
Empires of the Undergrowth is an ant colony management game, in a fast-paced real-time strategy style. The player excavates their nest underground, constructing tunnels and chambers to store food and raise brood. On the surface, the ants claim territory, gather resources, overwhelm fearsome arachnids and clash with other colonies. Nest design, army size, composition and attack timing are key to securing victory.
Missions are narrated from the perspective of a documentary film maker studying the ants, who offers intelligent insight into the goings-on of the colony and the undergrowth beyond. The primary game mode in early access is Formicarium, where you take ownership of a home colony of unique DNA-harvesting ants as they work to assimilate the desirable traits of their foes. You can upgrade them by playing one-off missions, sometimes with your home colony and sometimes with other ant species.
Carve out and construct your underground nest to suit your strategy
Engage in fast-paced colony versus colony combat above ground
Play as different ant species and explore their unique traits and weaknesses
Encounter and overpower dangerous beetles, arachnids and other awesome arthropods
Grow your pet formicarium over time by completing missions

Baron, you can toggle the health bars of your ants/queen and enemies by hitting 'C' on the keyboard. Also, make sure to upgrade the food stockpiles. It's cheap and they can hold a LOT more food in a smaller area. That way you don't have to scramble as much to increase the food stockpiles as much. Hope this helps! :D
As I see it Barron if you have a group of 30 mortar with your group of warriors then you can send in the warriors (warriors then stop bugs and start attacking) then send the motars(they will then be in the back and fight instead of behind in the front lines). Mortar is better than rapid fire because of the more damage
Smurphy more damage doesnt madder the dps does which Rapid fire in most games and ways has more dps :)
i agree that its a good idea and i can clarify how will they attack, as long as mortars stay far from enemy range and have little protection, you can form a range/support group that is always now if you send the main group the enemy will focus on it so the second group/support group gets in battle, since enemies usually attack the great wall of ants they prioritize on the main group. so its rare for the support group to be attacked, (unless attacked from behind[which you can have a second army group])

That and there is a possibility that mortar shots can miss at times because they travel slower than rapid fire shots.

Baron u should make ur tunnels more slim creating choke points, and stop making ur chambers so big and connected to ur queen, u r making it easy for ur queen to get killed. Ur queen should have her own chamber

I think mortar ant would be great, however we haven't seen how effective rapid fire is yet.
I think leaf cutter ants should be added to the game as well 😄

Mortar seems best. You wouldn't have to waste time on larger enemies. And small ones would get killed immediately

I'd go with the martyrs you've already tried them or you could wait and try some multi fire on a another Quest

I use workers as cannon fodder, martyrs to slow enemies down before soldiers ;D
The point with the tiger beetles are that they, to quote the professor "effortlessly cut through your ants"
But they have suprisingly low health. So when they ambush smaller groups of ants they are Done For. However when encountering large groups of ants supported by spitters their low health will get them killed so fast they barely gets to kill anything.
Conclusion, send an army specifically to kill them before you gather the food. Otherwise you will take huge casualties.
Baron upgrade your tiles more often, especially food as you can hold the same amount in a much smaller area. Also your gene upgrades don't take effect until you upgrade your larvae tiles. Lastly I'd advice making a second group of warriors as the next base defense is tough and you'll get attacked on 3 fronts plus surprises from above BE WARNED Muahahahaha 😜

Mortar is much better aslong as you can use your timing wisly when fighting
No kidding i came up with a game concept like 3-5 years ago thats just like this game. Pretty cool seeing it coming to fruition. This might be late but i literally just found this.

More workers, definitely, keep to having more workers than soldiers.
2 workers = 1 soldier
100 workers + 50 Soldiers = Solid Force.
50 workers + 100 Soldiers = Solid but unnecessary force.
I notice you dont use the upgrade tool outside of the formicarium, are you aware that you can upgrade to lvl 3 in battle?
Baron, you really should listen to what the announcer says. Not only is it pretty cool but it is also very helpful.
You need to pay attention to the mini-map, your reaction time to the threats would be 10 fold

That game's style of a documentary seems pretty cool. It kind of reminds me of sim ant, but is more graphically advanced. Extra points for every bit of realism and fact used to make the game/story more of an interactive learning experience.

You can upgrade your food patches during the challenges, so you don’t take more space for food, but more soldiers

On this level you can get down one more level on the beach for a lot of undisputed food, and if you get quick enough on it by the last day you can litterally clear the whole beach, every level including the tiger beatles. By the 2nd to last day you can be killing tiger beatles at dawn if you go heavier on the mortars or rapid fires.

A fun fact is that the acid is called Formic acid and it is the same type as the nettles use so the bugs were experiencing the experience of us falling into a nettle patch

Mortar would be a better choice because the ranged ants are mostly for the bigger ants so you want high damage. Your melee ants can take care of the weekend ones. And once you have many mortar ants it will make up for the fire rate.

the way I see it, you should go rapidfire. They can quickly finish off weak units, and move onto the strong ones.
