Anyone not seeing the seeing this feature: make sure you are on the "piano roll" and not "named notes" when in the editor. I think by default its Alt+1 to jump right to that. If you see note numbers or names this feature won't show. Click over on the little paino icon until you see piano keys on the left and it has the root C notes. C5 ,C6, C7 etc... then you will see the key snap button.
Wow, every time I watch one of these videos, it just shows how much value Reaper provides at such a low cost. So many useful features that I didn't know about.
This is also useful when having generative note plugins running and force them to stay in key of they do not have that option themselves. Nice video again Kenny.
Great video as always, Kenny. I didn't know of the JS plugin but that's pretty fun and useful for experimenting. Reaper really covers all angles. Just amazing.
Reaper evil is back... the whole video shows about the "snap to key", well, the function is pretty self explanatory, I could have figured out myself I guess... but... how the ... can I make this appear on my tool bar? I only have Grid, notes and color... no "Key snap".. I love Reaper but it can be so frustrating at times! EDIT => you have to choose "Piano roll" and not... "Named notes" in the View!!
Does it always correct downward? What if you hit the wrong note below, like D-flat (wrong note) instead of D ? Will it correct to D or to C (in C major) ?
Very good video again. I used this midi plugin but in a different way before. I inserted it in the FX channel. I didn't know you could also insert it on Input FX as well. So, I have a question at this point. If in your midi editor the key is snapped to a certain scale, say C Major for instance, can you still play in C major? Or is it the scale that you have used in the Midi Key to snap plugin, which takes effect? In other words, no matter what key you are snapped in the midi editor, will you always play in the scale that you used in the snap to key plugin, which is inserted as an input FX plugin? Thank you..
Your last sentence in your comment is correct: Doesn't matter which key you have set in Keysnap in MIDI Editor, the Key set in the Keysnap PLUGIN is the one that the notes are changed to, when you play live.
I know this comment is old but I'm commenting incase anyone else sees this. Looks like they're loaded in a .txt file. So what I would do is find the files for the current scales and see how they're configured and you could then put your own together accordingly then load them. Just store them in the same place the reaper ones are stored.
@@craigdaubbeats-rapinstrume9185 I checked and modified the .txt to suit my scale. But in Piano roll Key snap -> Load does not accept .txt file formal but instead accepts only Reascales format . Not sure how to make it work for Piano roll for my custom scale
it's not working for me kenny!?, i puted the plugin in input fx adjust it to a key and the type of scale (mayor/minor) but it will still play every note the same. what is wrong? can anyone help?
How does the virtual keyboard below do that? How does the virtual keyboard below do that? How does the virtual keyboard below do that? How does the virtual keyboard below do that? It great! !! !!
one stupid thing about this is that you can't set the whole project to the key. But the most stupid thing is that when you copy a midi item it doesn't retain its key set. And no appropriate actions for this. Like its against the music universe rules. Dear DAW, this is sooooo annoying
works for me? all of my midi items are snapped to A minor. some of the old ones didnt have key snap enabled but now that ive enabled key snap, any new ones open up with it and on the key I chose. if i change key on one of them, they change on all. there must be something in your settings wrong. i remember seeing a setting that said to edit midi items for the entire project vs individual tracks or something

Thanks for all of your great videos Kenny!

Great fonction ! Thank for this Video !
Now when i create any new midi items, its already set to "snap to key" option. How to set this option off by default?
Very nice, thank you!

Rob van Hees You are always very good at helping. Many thanks Rob.
UR Welcome Ali Baba !
very good, thank you
great sir !!!
Great tutorial Thanks !!
Is that possible midi note snap to chords for measure ?
Is this the plugin which you can map any scale/key to white keys only (aka lock scale to white keys only), so I can easily jam in any scale/key ?
Did you end up finding the plugin you were looking for?
I think this presentation is barbaric reductionism of music theory…joooooooooooking ..absolutely fabulous information 🙏🙏🏿🎩🎵✨🎵🎵🎵🦄
This option is not showing up in my editor. Do I have to turn it on in preferences?
amazing information, thanks!
Excellent :-)
Someone Knows if Pro Tools has something similar ?
you dont need to do this within the actionlist.
Just select all the notes, change the key and drag all the notes up or down how do you like.
I'm wondering how to add more scales to the list because there's a load function

Where can I find snap to key as I do not have it in reaper
Now make video about ReaPack and MIDI Ex Machina.

I had the same issue at first. Make sure that your MIDI channel of your Virtual Keyboard (or MIDI input) matches the Input Channel of your FX
@@jimm6933 Thank you from 2 years in the future, you saved me from having to post a very rude but accurate comment.
