The older John Deere tractors had the best cold starts. I heard it had something to do with the fuel pump. After the 4950 everything went computerized. Vince ending the epic cold starts
They couldn’t start the internationals!!😂
These tractors would start a lot easier if people would use the proper winter viscosity oil such as a synthetic diesel rated 5W40 and add a winter additive to the fuel such as Power Service or Diesel Tone.
Or just plug the damn things in. We never abused our trucks or tractors this way.

From all the old john deere on this video my favorite are the 4230 and 4240 ... without that turbo they have one unic sound
Why not put a port in the engine side of the air cleaner and stick in a propane torch for start. save batteries and starter motors. we used to pull the air cleaner and hold burning cotton waste over the intake, always started straight away
Glad my 706 made the cut! Wish the full video sent instead of the trimmed one...it started and stalled, so I ran the plugs and tried again

Why do they surge right before the turbo spools up? Unburned fuel burning off?
It's likely something to do with the governor, and also having chambers full of diesel.

im running with a 1840 to plow the snow and my dad saw me do it my dad is like one of thos dads that are like if you can start it you can plow it and i put liquid glow plug so it starts faster and im only 12 start when i was 7 and i went to go cut wood with my dad in our forist
